Pike out coached again

I do not want Holloway, but some people on this board want to keep Pike around for the same exact reason

Pike got us to 2 tourneys - should have been 4 (2020 and the 2023 robbery) after 3 decades of futility. He had a down year last year after losing 3 starters in April 2023 and the 4/5* in that class being a total bust. This year has been a mess.

He’s got a couple more seasons after this one.

I know you and I have gone back and forth on this already.. 2020 sure but I’m not counting 2023 (we simply didn’t get selected). So fine, I’ll give Pike credit for 3 tourney appearances in 9 seasons at the helm - an admirable accomplishment for a program that was in the gutter when he took over. But this is now our 3rd straight “down” year… he’s going to drag us back to the gutter if we let him

These threads are so tiresome. I guess it wouldn't be this site if someone didn't start a coaching thread after a loss.

This was a coin flip game where our best player was 15 points below his average.
the 11-0 run with no feel for stopping the momentum and getting the hot hand back in has nothing to do with dylan

if its all about dylan and ace being 100% on every single game then we could have my deceased grandfather sit on the sideline and do the same thing pike is PAID to know how to do

For sure - I respect your opinion, but I also think it’s not so easy to just get a better coach. Especially given where we are as an institution, still in our infancy.

I just think you have to go deeper than the record. Pike got f’ed by NIL last year. 22-23 was supposed to be a transition year with Ron, Geo and others leaving and until the Mag injury, was poised to be his best.

This years team shows up in flashes. Absolutely has taken longer than expected and we’ve had some bad luck with Dylan’s health (I think most can agree we probably have 3 more Big Ten Ws if he’s full strength). Season isn’t over - though it’s hanging on by a thread (as it was in 21-22).

That doesn’t mean his some of his in game decisions are open to criticism. But not seeing Dylan bring the ball up much yesterday and his errant shooting tell you he wasn’t in good shape.

Don't forget Harper shooting 3-11 from the field, definitely Pikes fault
Harper 3-11 - If Pike ran stuff to free him up instead of constant ISO ball he wouldn't likely be 3-11.
JWill 5 turnovers - Pike allows him to be out of control.
Ace's 2 techs. - He shouldn't be getting 2 techs like that this late in the season. Pike should take some blame here also.
Pike bears most of the responsibility for the mess you see out there.

Evidently Pike snuck onto the court and rolled Dylan’s ankle.

With the game very close he puts Grant in to guard the 5 and has Sommerville guard the 4, Ped St immediately opened up the game. How on gods green earth does Pike think that Grants can guard a 5 and Sommerville a 4 in the Big 10.
Sigh ... I am pretty sure that is not what happened.

Sommerville was on Niederhouser, but PSU ran the high screen and roll with Niederhouser and Baldwin. Grant ended up covering Niederhouser several times AS HE ROTATED TO HELP DEFENSE, NOT as the primary defender.
