Any word on today's visit?

i think this kid is ours... need a grad transfer C asap. Like this kids size and smarts tho.

He did academics all day yesterday. Will do hoops today. Most visitors have a good experience on officials so I'm not saying things aren't going well but it's really too early to say. Nothing has gone on as far as our plans for him, his visiting the facilities, etc... I like Washingtons enthusiasm but it's too early to call.

I think there might be some confusion here. I was asking about Myles Johnson's visit yesterday at RU. I think this last posting might be thinking about Vance Jackson who I think was going to visit Washington next and one other school at the beginning of June. I could be wrong. Any clarification? I know we are recruiting both Myles Johnson and Vance Jackson.

Johnson will be here throughout the day today after a full day yesterday. I also know we were supposed to have Kelly Whitney (2019 PF/C) here yesterday or today as well, so I'm sure the next day or so will have some updates etc.

Jackson is probably not making a decision until he visits Washington, Baylor and potentially San Diego State as well...might be a while on what happens there.

Thanks Hawk. I forgot what the other school was for Jackson (Baylor & possibly San Diego State). I think I read that one visit might not be until early June.

There is no comparison as far as a program between us and Hawaii. He is ours if we want him.

Was probably sold on the engineering program before pikes even showed him the weight room. No brainer if he wants engineering. Rutgers is a well recognized name in the field.

There have been very few student athletes that have chosen engineering as a major because of the difficulty of the curriculum and the time required with participation in college athletics.

Word is good so far. They have left campus and are not visiting Georgia Tech, going directly to LAX. Announcement coming Sunday. If Pike and Young really want him, believe he will wear Scarlet.
That's really the question, is he a take right now.

Doorson is in a boot and not mobile right now and labored through most of the B1G schedule....Diallo is out and Doucoure is a 2018 recruit that could (or could not) reclassify to 2017....If Doorson is limited at all this season, we would have no bigs on the roster if Doucoure doesn't reclassify.

I don't think we are considering the player because we may not have any bigs, but on the surface, he has some upside and would likely earn minutes. I don't know how healthy Doorson will be, but even if he is, he's not a 25 minute a game player like CJ Gettys was.

I think it would be wise to perhaps take both Johnson and Doucoure if he reclassified and provides coverage in case Doorson isn't healthy.....we also have the walk-on at 6'10, which right now, looks like a smart move in case something isn't exactly 100% with Doorson.

Johnson is not an all B1G caliber player early in his career and I believe Doucoure is a more mobile/athletic PF/C, but Johnson has some serviceable skills and has better offense and defense than Diallo or Doorson at this time (face the basket/shooting/defensively).

Yeah but we only have two spots for three players. If its Johnson and Donucore, then you bowed out of the Jackson race. And he is certainly the best of the three players. Maybe they will take a terrible 17-18 season without any big men to be set up for a serious run at 18-19.

Can't comment on the ability of any of these players....I do think you don't take a 5 solely because you don't have one. There comes a point where a very small lineup is better than a warm body that is 6'10''+.

It does look like b1G is going to have talented big men next year.
PUR probably has Haas
PSU has watkins
MSU has Ward
Minny has murphy
WISC prob has happ
IOWA has a few big bodies that can score
IND...not sure how much D'ron davis improves
NW..Pardon is a RU killer

I agree, but Doucoure is at least athletically more likely to develop into a starting caliber person, but he's slated for 2018 as of today....I think the question is whether we are better off with Johnson as a freshman vs Diallo as a 4th year junior (without the health/injuries, you take Diallo, but that's not the case)

We are not matching talent for talent with the rest of the front lines of the B1G today, but that was part of my overall assessment in the SHU thread about how critical it is to have some size recruited. As far as Johnson, he has some upside, but I'm all for having people compete for minutes and during practice time....if we land him, he'll have a chance to compete....if we land another player in 2018 to go with Doucoure, great.

As far as seels point, yes we would be full if we take Doucoure into account today, but Jackson's decision comes way before we need to do anything with Doucoure...if we are at the end of August with one open spot open, no Vance Jackson or that type of piece added and Doorson isn't quite ready to start doing a lot more, then we cross that bridge later.

It is Johnson or someone like him, with his skill sets....there were some JUCO's or grads that would be more than able to start ASAP, but those recruiting pieces are at levels or programs beyond our grasp right now. We can argue that needs to change, but I view Johnson as a Pac 12 player, if he didn't get hurt last summer and if healthy, can help RU down the road.....

What...are you saying that your butt is too close to the ground now or maybe gravity is stronger around you now?

Gravity is approximately 32.2% stronger today than it was 30 years ago, due to an unusual quirk in the atmosphere related to global warming - all those greenhouse gases we've been trapping in the atmosphere for the past 100 years have added over 30% additional mass to the planet, resulting in the stronger gravitational force. Do I need a smiley to let people know I'm kidding?

Please, engineering is a gut major. I partied my ass off for all 4 years. :>)

All kidding aside, if students took it as a 5-year major, as many do, it's not nearly as bad - 144 credits in 4 years is tough regardless of class difficulty (vs. 120 credits for most majors), although class difficulty depends on the person to some extent. There are people who simply shouldn't be majoring in a math/science intensive major.

My very first day, Calc 151, the professor walks in and says, "Welcome to calculus for engineers, where we take engineers and math majors and turn them into liberal artists." Sure enough, come finals about half the class was gone.

That explains my weight gain over the past 30 years!

Good points Hawk. Frontcourt Depth is a concern either way, but also don't forget Candido Sa is in line to start at the 5.

There is no discussion. If you can get Doucoure in this class ...you do it. Take Jackson and Doucoure and start the front court rebuilding. You can even REDSHIRT one of them if we are injury free and you can get 30 minutes from Freeman, 20 from Sa and 15 from Doorson, leaving a redshirt for one and 15 mpg for the other.

The key is we have a pretty good staff and although this recruit isn't expected to be a starter (not every recruit can be), I believe RU's historical problem has been players 8-13 have not been good enough to improve the existing players in practice etc...If Johnson cracks the Top 8 as a sophomore because he works hard and improves, it's a win-win for everyone. I like his game from the limited tape I've seen.

It's not that I've put on weight, I just interact more with the Higgs field these days.

Yeah, in the beginning of my freshman year, in an engineering school orientation lecture I got to hear the famous line of "look to your left and look to your right - at least one of you won't be here in 4 years." Attrition rates were pretty high.

Getting back to calc, here's probably my geekiest story from college. I was in RU's first ever Honors Calc class, which had maybe 20 students and was taught by one of the best profs in the school, unlike the crappy calc megaclasses taught by crappy adjunct profs most people had to take.

It had its benefits, as Professor Lyons, a tall, gaunt, odd looking dude with a long beard, who probably rarely saw the light of day, taught our class and he was simply amazing. Calculus came alive with this guy and I'll never forget about midway through our first semester with him (he taught our first two semesters), when he finished the several lecture long proof of the fundamental theorem of calculus, we all looked at each other and broke into applause. He was that good.

We definitely need another big guy with losing Gettys and Diallo and not knowing how Doorson will be. We need to get at least 10 points a game from the center position out of our bigs to keep the defense honest. I hope Myles chooses us.

Johnson would be a big help.

I like his skill set a lot. I think over four years he would become a solid player here.

He has this quiet confidence about his game. Not in your face, but you can tell he puts in a lot of time.
