Anyone Else "meh" with NCAA 2016?

Gotta give credit where and when it's due: great 2nd half comeback by 'Cuse = great game.

[sick]

Virginia...coaching and execution brutal down the stretch...so slow and methodical. no sense of urgency to get better shots and get shots up quickly...just unfathomably wretched

Bad job by Bennett . He was handcuffed with only that one timeout remaining and I guess he didn't want to use it around the 5-6 minute mark when they really needed one .

Nuts you jinxed it, dont know why you wanted a close game

Cuse was bashed for not deserving to get in, they won this poll by a landslide although I firmly thought they deserved it based on their top 50 wins this year..this was a team that lost 5 of its last 6 and dead in the water, got a little lucky with the draw and then simply delivered tonight.

Boo to Virginia..worst choke in NCAA history, they should be embarrassed led by Bennett

If we've learned anything from this tournament it is have the ability to press and be able to break a press. I can't remember so many games turn on the desperation full court presses in one NCAA tournament.

well all my brackets were busted...I had a shot at money in my sweet 16 pool if Virginia won it all but now even a Cuse national championship will not save my original brackets and give me money

definitey going with UNC now and I may just root for Nova to win it all

Bac,

I really don't think it was a choke job by Virginia at all. Can't you give Syracuse the credit they deserved? They sped up the game with the press and Richardson took over in the second half. Created the tempo that was needed and accomplished it terrifically.

If Hall hits that 3 pointer at the end the game would have been tied. Gotta give Syracuse a ton of credit.

Best of Luck,
Groz

thats true you have to credit Cuse.....Boeheim won the game for them but with one team performing well comes the other side faltering..losing a 15 point lead and then even after the press was taken off UVA had more than 3 minutes to do something and faltered badly. UVA just unprepared for the press and its okay to rattled at first but they never regrouped at all and their lack of any urgency while precious seconds wasted away was startling. This was a middling 10th seed Cuse and UVA a one seed I dont care what Cuse is doing, you cant lose a 14 point lead like that in just a few minutes but they did

we saw some of this by Gonzaga and Wisconsin in their losses the other night. Seemingly well coached teams just forgetting some of the basics. Sure its on the players but those coaches have to give them a lifeline too. Virginia didnt even try for a steal on Cuse down 2 with 26 seconds, very very passive, they just simply fouled..why?..then wasted 17 seconds putting up a bad 3

:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:I almost mehed myself to sleep watching that game.

As the other Tony Bennett would sing- I want to be around to pick up the pieces / When somebody breaks your heart / Some somebody twice as smart as I"

Bennett at the end of that game for some reason reminded me of Gary Waters.

Pulling for Oklahoma to win it all. More of who I don't want to see win: UNC-Cheat, Syracuse or Villanova (old passions die hard)

I know when it's over MLB season starts which is something to look forward to. Worst time of the year is from NFL Championship weekend until "play ball". Maybe if RU gets good and makes the tourny that will change.

Unsolicited cheap shot on Gary Waters. Ouchh !

You aren't winning when you're best player shoots 2-14.

UVA cracked under pressure----blame who you want for that but that's the truth.

Virginia is very successful because their defense usually stifles opponents and they win lots of ugly games.Bennett and his father had very similar game strategy. To win national championships ,however,
go to scorers like Richardson for Syracuse are needed to stop scoring droughts.Failure to make shots at crunch time is what doomed Virginia.

Poor execution finishing fast breaks was a big factor IMO.

They blew 2 or 3 2 on 1's against the press and couldn't finish.

Same thing happens to Shaka Smart. These coaches that focus so much on defense forget that to you have to still score to win and that good offensive teams will figure out your d.

One of the tough things about top level teams like Virginia (or Wisconsin last year) is that they're not high scoring themselves on a usual basis which leaves the door open more so than the high offense teams.
I have to give SU credit because my one thought about the game was that if Virginia got a lead there is no way Cuse would come back. Felt like Virginia was made for situations like holding a decent lead. 'Cuse found a way.

I'm pulling for a UNC-Oklahoma final. I think that will end up being the most exciting (and prob most overall offensive) assuming UNC wins and looking at them vs Nova or OK.
Although it wasnt high scoring, I loved the Nova/Kansas game (minus a few calls i think should have gone uncalled) as a great example of a game we want to see more of. Exciting, kind of nerve racking, close throughout...

Nuts

I thought the games on the first weekend were really good all around

even on the second round
Stephen f Austin-ndame
The Yale comeback against puke
The Wisconsin buzzer beater
The Texas a&m comeback
The Oregon comeback

Thought the sweet 16 game were awful

But sat and sun were pretty good...two nail bitters out of four

Last night helped a lot, no doubt, can't argue there but still thought the 2nd round was "meh." Think if SFA/Norther Iowa's of the world, had won, I'd feel different.

(Okay I edited the title so as to not upset anybody else lol!)

1st round was pretty good no complaints here.

2nd round not so much other than the TAMU comeback and a couple of tight games it started to get a little "blah" on Saturday IMHO.

Thursday - 4 games that were pretty much never in question (Maryland stuck around until half)
Friday - 2 games that were never in question
Sat - 1 game never in question

....that's 7 of 10 games played thus far this weekend that I either turned off, tuned out, or talked to the girl closest to me at the bar instead, during.

Obviously I'll still tune in, tonight, don't get me wrong! [cheers]

Yes, meh. Even first round day sessions were much better than evening ones, IIRC

BTW, I can't fully separate the games form the teams. Syracuse coming back to win was good basketball but made me sick. 4 ACC games in 2 semifinals made me sick. The team of the Chair of the committee that screwed teams like Monmouth now the team I am rooting for makes me sick.
Get the picture. meh!

Monmouth didnt get screwed, they had a home against GW and were easily beaten. Yes GW won the NIT but Monmouth would have had a tougher 6 seed to play if they made it. Cuse belonged because they won 5 top 50 games. You cant take that away from them. Syracuse has proven their worth

Bac they change the criteria to do anything they want to do----last year the big comments from the committee were about road wins. This year it was about Top 50 wins.

Kudos to Cuse for a great run but by last years criteria they wouldn't get in.

The NIT game with GW is a non factor in them getting in.

They throw out 5-6 different criteria to cover their asses.

Next year it will be something else I'm sure.

My "final" take:

- boring tournament until...
- excellent title game with a...
- beyond phenomenal last 3:00 minutes or so and then an...
- out-of-this-world ending!!!

This is the best tournament I have ever seen. The most exciting finishes and biggest shots. Some of the greatest game performances by certain teams and one if the top 5 championship games of all time if not in the top 3.

We all know Football is king but Football can never top that ever!!!

Amazing stuff!!!

you are so right, there is nothing in bowl season or even the newly formed playoffs that can match the NCAA tourney....sets the bar for emotion in the college game, football only wishes it had something like this

- 7 of 12 games Sweet 16/Elite 8 never in question
- both semis were blowouts

... I mean you don't have to agree with me, obviously, but the "best" you ever saw?

This isn't about football vs basketball. Move on.

excellent games in the first two rounds. So many games decided by ridiculous shots. Yes some of the other games were not competitive but we saw teams winning on such high levels. To me thats exciting. Watching Nova play the past few games was a thing of beauty. This tourney had it all. It never had a locked in favorite. It was a wide open tourney right down to the finals which could have gone either way,

move on? move on from what? There is no comparison to me. We have 20 meaningless bowl games between medicore schools but even when we get to the bigger bowls, it just does not pack the same emotion. Just my opinion

"move on" from making the comparison. Nobody is doing that here nor was it ever my intention. Who cares?
