For Big Ten, expansion does not appear on horizon

On media & revenue

""I think ESPN has value," (Mighigan State AD) Hollis said. "But at the same time, that value has to attach to what our value is. That's what the conversation piece is. The important brand for us is the Big Ten Conference and not any one television entity."

I'm hearing "Maybe Jim Swofford and the ACC are ESPN subsidiaries, in the B1G those guys might be allowed to carry some of our product."

I think there is not a lot new or interesting in that article. Big Ten ADs aren't talking about expansion possibilities (no surprise there), and they're confident in Delany's ability to negotiate the right TV contract (no surprise there, either). If Delany proposes a TV contract that includes or doesn't include ESPN, the ADs are OK either way.

Yeah, this is a contrast to the Big East, where ADs (led by Rutgers' Pernetti and the ADs from Notre Dame and Georgetown) balked at the TV deal endorsed by the BE commissioner. But I don't think anyone is surprised that the Big Ten ADs have more confidence in their commissioner than the Big East ADs had in theirs.

If the FOX $$$ are correct, the broadcast value of the B1G has been set. Delany can go to ESPN or any other network with real numbers and say take it or leave it. That's a lot different than being told what you have to accept as we saw in the BE and AAC.

These stories will continue for a while. I think we eventually end up with 4 16 team conferences. Thank god we are on the inside looking out.

Downside is B1G will get less coverage than the AAC on Sports Center, unless playing out of conference.

14 is an odd number. See 16 coming. Can see ND and Kansas some day. Texas would be fine but can't see them with cold weather conference. Or Va and NC. Don't think its over at all. Does GT get Atlanta Market? I would not mind UConn either. RU and UConn would own NY and cut off New England.

UConn brings nothing. Maybe they do in bball, but this is all football driven, so uconn has no value.

I haven't watch sportscenter in years.
It became worthless 10years ago. You used to get every single highlight in less than 30min. You could watch it while shaving and getting ready for work and be set for an entire day's worth of banter in the office.

Sportscenter is awful. I can't figure out what they are trying to push. Hence why I stopped watching.

Does any channel do what Sportscenter used to?

Every time someone mentions Uconn in the big ten a gay angel gets its wings confiscated...

Sports center- amazing how far it has dropped. 10-15 years ago, it was on everywhere. It was the go to channel when traveling for work, exercising, drinking etc...I can't remember the last time I watched it

B1G dropping ESPiN! Oh the horror of it all
Now ever preseason post will have 10-12 SEC teams in the top 25 and no B1G listed at all.
Not much of a change when you think about it.

The media world is changing so quickly that might not even be a big deal in a few years. ESPN has a lot of its own issues it needs to figure.

They lost their way when they went to personality based reporting instead of giving you real sports news. It really started with Jordan then Favre, Woods, Bryant, James, and now Curry. Do we really need to spend a few minutes covering the latest Gronkowski family party?

Their hosts have turned into the silly, happy talk type people you see on the local news. Their "experts" like Jaws, Gruden, Edwards, Rose, and Melrose are all great but are never given enough time.
