I reached out to my ticket person about the doors being locked last night. Her first reply was this:

As for the APC, I forwarded the email to my manager, but the policy has changed this year.

I then asked what she meant by policy changing and got this reply:

Last year the APC was opened to go through but the team did not want fans in the building while the players were going inside from the game.

So what they are saying to the people that pay for season tickets and parking, too bad walk all the way around the building because it may inconvenience some players. Heck, take one of your security guys and post them in that short distance between the doors and keep people moving . Please feel free to get your emails flowing to the AD office.

my 1st reaction is this is poor
2nd reaction....Ace and Harper probably need to be protected and it is a small price to pay for them being here
There was a heavy police presence outside of the Rac. Unsure what that was about.

Simple solution , have a security guy walk with them instead of inconveniencing 100's of fans.

Kyle Monangai has a security guard walking next to him every week at the Scarlet Walk, no reason Ace & Dylan can't have one or two either.

Also, I parked at the APC all last year and walked thru the building to get back to my car. I can say I never saw a player in the building after a game.

from my ticket rep:

The APC lobby closing is for safety and liability concerns. With the increased attendance of fans expected this season, it was decided to shut that lobby down from the APC deck. Sorry for the inconvenience with this, wish there was more I could do!

These are bs responses (players walking through the APC, increased fan attendance etc.).

In the past few years I have only seen 1 player in the parking deck (Noah Fernandez) and it was probably 45 minutes after the game ended as he was walking to his car.

We have sold out most games the past few years, so the crowds have always been there.

It’s just another example of how fans, alums, donors are often an afterthought to the folks within the AD and Admin.

It’s not a huge inconvenience to walk around the building but it is a much better experience in inclement weather and saves 2-3 minutes to cut straight through the building towards the RAC as opposed to walking around the deck.

It’s pretty ridiculous that they can’t figure out a safe way for fans to walk through the APC.

I’m already pissed they took my 2nd APC pass away this year and told me if I wanted a 2nd pass I had to get a Yellow pass.

I have 6 total tickets with my family and they allowed me 2 passes since the deck opened. It’s bs that I couldn’t get 2 passes this year in the same location with 6 tickets as they had no problem allowing in prior years. You can’t fit 6 people in the same car unless you have a 3 row SUV.

It’s pretty ridiculous that they can’t figure out a safe way for fans to walk through the APC.; THEY CAN, THEY JUST AREN'T TRYING. HOW ABOUT YOU PUT VELVET ROPES UP SO NO ONE CAN GO ANYWHERE BUT DIRECTLY TO THE DECK? NOT EVEN THE BATHROOM?

Spot on.

A few years ago the APC wasn’t even open and fans spoke up, which led to them finally opening it (I think for the past 2 years).

Now they go and close it up.

I suggest everyone to keep voicing your opinions and hopefully common sense will prevail.

Is the gymnastics coach still there?

Conspiracy theory
That could be our reason
Man, you anticipate every possible issue! I know we talked about this before, but you never confirmed what line of work you’re in: emergency preparedness, risk management, crisis management or actuary? 😂

They had a special event pregame in there last night. Perhaps they are planning more and don't wish the extra headaches?

Honestly, who cares? If you go to games in other places across the country, you need shuttles or flat out have to walk a mile (literally) to get to the doors.

We've got it pretty good here guys

C’mon BK, there is absolutely no reason for them to squeeze out longtime season ticket holders and donors out of the Green Lot the way they did. This is BS and they could’ve put the phantom VIPs in the APC for “security” purposes. They didn’t tell us anything about a cut off and moved the goalposts without telling us. Complete BS.

But it's one thing after another. I like many others have been the Green Lot for many years then suddenly without warning was assigned APC. After this inconvenience they change the ability to cut thru the APC for a lot that is INCONVENIENT since it's been built. I could make a very long list of how they don't care about the fans not only for MBB but for other sports. I am a season ticket holder for FB, MBB, WBB, Wrestling (talk about ridiculous schedule...Toms River????), Lacrosse as well as attending WSOC, FH. I am tired getting Sh$t on by RU Admin!

Amen, Ron. They take us for granted and then we get a BK post telling us to suck it up, it could be worse. Worse than the Jordan era or error? I don’t think so.

Trust me guys I get the frustration. That said, we qualify for Green and ask for APC because it works best for us!

When you've traveled to other places across the country (hundreds of visits to venues big and small for college hoops) as much as JK and I have, and see what other places ask of their fans, we really are pretty well off for basketball.

If there are other factors at work in why you'd be frustrated about this situation, I can respect that. That's a very personal experience and I'd never make light. Lord knows I have reasons to complain about stuff too!

If the extra 100 yards walk in the cold is too much for you maybe you should be applying for handicapped passes?

Sorry BK, you are way off on this one. There might have been something going on pre-game but this decision was made way before that. All the ticket reps were prepped for the phone calls coming in about this. The concept that they can not allow season ticket holders the ability to walk through 20 yards of a building but make them walk all the way around the building is BS. Truthfully it is not the walk that bothers me. It is there is an easy solution for this and once again the Admin cannot read their customers and find a way to always make things worse.

And, truthfully I don't give a darn what is like at other places. We have a parking deck right next to our arena but someone thinks it is a good idea to make all us walk around the building, coming and going even though all it would take would be a velvet rope or a security person to stand there.

All good. Agree to disagree…

Just a reminder though that when the deck first opened, there was no thru access either. Last year was the exception not the rule.

You also have to understand that the profile of the program has changed and with that brings other concerns that limiting access would help alleviate. Just food for thought…

1) It’s not an extra 100 yards

2) It’s the principle of how Rutgers mis-manages things and treats some of its most passionate and long term fans.

You have fans that got bounced from the Green lot after years of parking there with sold out crowds with no notice for more “VIP”s. Meanwhile the Green lot has tons of spaces that sit empty each game.

Then they open the APC a couple years ago to fans from the deck after many people voiced their opinion. I can’t tell you how many folks appreciated that and were happy - I heard it first hand from many folks in the elevator the year they opened it up. The lady that tended the door each game was extremely nice and welcoming. Only for them to go back and shut it down and have ticket Reps tell fans it’s because of bogus reasons like safety and increased attendance. Set a damn rope up and have the same nice woman keeping fans moving along and through the APC.

You might think it’s little but it’s a much more pleasant experience to cut through the APC then to be barred from walking through and having to walk around the deck, especially in the middle of January/February or in inclement weather. Sometimes little things go a long way.

These decisions are obviously being made because of the increased fanfare surrounding the program this year. But it’s one year with Ace and Dylan. They should think more about the folks impacted by these decisions because we’re the ones who have supported the program for years and will be here after Ace and Dylan leave.

Your sort of warm

Everyone could use the extra walking. RU is helping everyone out and getting people to live longer.

When it gets below 32 degrees lets revisit the topic.

I stay after the game to talk to some fans after the game so we get to the car late. Saw Egbole leaving the APC on his little scooter.

I saw some peeps at the game. Most need more exercise anyways.

Agreed
This was the first time I ever noticed police presence

Sure you have security each game, but never really saw it

The half time court protection seemed increased also

Just a reminder though that when the deck first opened, there was no thru access either.
And it was dumb then. Build a parking deck ostensibly for the basketball arena, and put the only public entrance on the opposite side of the building? The architect clearly expected the RAC-side entrance to be used - the decision not to use it is an administrative one. There are solutions to this.

For paying customers I would say it’s annoying more than anything.
He didn't read the parts of the thread where long-time donors and fans were screwed. It's the principle of the thing and how it was handled in such an underhanded way. Of course another member of the freebie crowd has to chime in on a thread that they seemingly don't care about.

Agree I was referring more to the APC not being open.

The long time folks who have high levels of priority points and got moved out of the Green with little or no communication got screwed, especially if that not has tons of open spaces.
