RU wrestling tweeted today that they're up to 2,100. Rutgers is quick to give updates whenever that program hits a milestone but it's radio silence from the social media people about basketball.

I suspect wrestling could be on the verge of passing men's basketball if they haven't already.
Clearly, they have way more than CVS' program, which I'd bet money has less than 1,000.

Isn't silence better than the truth with regard to season ticket holders?

There has been PLENTY put out about Men's Basketball on social media. They are doing a great job here. I believe it is top down. If only that can put the ball in the basket

I meant about season ticket sales. I'm well aware of all the content they push out on the various social media platforms.

Wrestling is a vastly different type of sport, I know many, many RU season ticket holders for wrestling that have no other connection to RU or any other RU sports, yet they are huge RU wrestling supporters. High School Wrestling fans in New Jersey become RU wrestling fans because RU is in the best wrestling conference in the land & they want to see great wrestling.

Agree that basketball is doing fine and congratulations to the wrestling program on its success. Football, on the other hand, just posted its lowest attendance numbers since 2005, which is before the program's breakout season and the subsequent stadium expansion. Extremely troubling, to say the leas.

The wrestling season ticket is much less expensive as there are only 6 or 7 home matches per year. best bargain in sports!

I think the cost differential and lower number of matches (vs games) are significant contributors to this trend.

And yet basketball season ticket holders were forced to renew by June 20 and pay half now.

Kinda have to go on faith that there isn't extreme demand just yet, the roster is still not yet finalized and we don't have the OOC schedule yet to determine the dates.

I still think if you have 20 B1G games and a Friday night in November vs St Johns, that you have enough of an idea on what to expect attendance wise....i can also tell you that if RU can get 5 to 6 B1G Saturday home games of the 10, you'll see more season tickets sold.

I think the only Saturday home game in the B1G this past season was Purdue..

Ohio State, Indiana were Monday night...Michigan State Tuesday...Northwestern Thursday....Iowa and Nebraska might have been Wednesday night, Wisconsin was a Friday and Illinois a Sunday.

Purdue and Seton Hall were the marquee attractions for Saturday's and i think the two games where you could visibly see and hear a difference in the crowd. It's still very much a wait and see to dedicate travel time, family activity and school/homework etc when you have a Wednesday night at 7PM or 9PM on Thursday night in late February.

I think St Johns on that Friday night before the Penn State game in football will be a well attended game and i think RU fans will easily be 3 to 4K at the Rock vs Seton Hall on a Saturday.

You can sell tickets or presale, but what impacts the opponents is actual fans and students in the seats...having a weekend friendly schedule should help.

Winning will cure everything with MBB attendance. I see the place packed most nights within two years or may sooner. $$$$

I think it's three fold. New Jersey has a lot of wrestling fans. Two, we're competitive, they reached 11th in the nation last year. So while we may get blown out by #1 and #2 in the nation they'll still be some good matches during those meets. Three, it's also a great rowdy atmosphere. People are coming back to see more. The RAC is perfect for wrestling with everyone on top of the action. Opposing teams always say it's a top place to wrestle now. If people didn't like the product, price wouldn't make them buy.

At the Ohio State match last season, I spoke with a diehard OSU wrestling fan. He said he's been to dozens of wrestling venues and ranked the RAC at the top. He said it's absolutely perfect for wrestling... size... sightlines... knowledgeable, boisterous crowd. He thought Rutgers has what it takes to be a program consistently in the top 4 in the B1G (with OSU, PSU, & Iowa).

This past season was my 3rd with season tix. I'm glad I jumped in when I did. I have great seats.

This.

I made the plunge for 2 ball tickets next year and will probably make less than 1/4th the games.

Wanted to get in before Pikiell makes a serious run at the tourney at which point season tickets willl explode the following year.

Yea I mean the reason is pretty obvious. Wrestling is setting records so why wouldn't they be posting about it?

Once Rutgers turns it around on the court and more casual fans start jumping on the bandwagon basketball ticket sales will rise and if they start breaking records there will be social media posts about it I'm sure

Rutgers basketball social media game is on point

No. It’s winning that matters.

I wouldn't bank on that many Saturday games. I remember looking at it last year, and most B1G teams only had three or four home weekend conference games.

Edit: Went and dug up my old post.

Looking at other teams in the conference, and # of home weekend conference games:
6 - Maryland
4 - Purdue, Ohio St, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa
3 - MSU, Rutgers, Indiana, Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin
2 - PA St, Northwestern
