Has it actually been announced he's our 'true' starter or just the starter of the first half of the first game by default?
First half starter by default.
So he and Laviano will be splitting reps with the first team for the next two weeks, even though Rettig has been named the starter? No. Makes no sense. Let's be honest, 1-0 aside, we're looking long-term, not just the Norfolk game, and our starter (who is new) needs as many reps as possible.
So then Rettig will be getting first team reps, play the first half of the first game, but then the job might go to Laviano? No. Makes even less sense.
Rettig is the starter. Laviano is the backup. That's it.
He seems to be, uhhh, excited by the news...
Hope the kid rips the cover off the ball and never looks back.
This is all done on purpose since Flood wants us to decide based on the performance on the field. Afterwards, we can all vote here and that is how this thing is going to be decided.
Who knows more about these things than people who are on the forum?
Don't be so naive. Of course we don't make decisions! Any sarcastic remark that alludes to the fans having control is pure ignorance. But, any coach high school, college or Pro, who completely disregard fan base sentiment is doomed for early retirement. Of course he listens. Don't believe it? All you have to do is go as far, as any successful program at any level and you will see fan enfluence. Pro teams in heavily spanish, oriental, or other ethnic groups will be represented that way on the roster. College teams will directly be influenced(like it or not) by it's fan base, look at any of those "Big time" programs. And consequently, from time to time, find a booster or Alumnus with their hand in the cookie jar. As far as High Schools, really do I really need to explain this one.
So, yes we do and should have an influence on the operations of the team we support either morally, or financially.
Orientals? It's 2015, you might wanna leave that one behind...lol
I know right! As I wrote that, I knew someone would comment on it. But, truthfully this was pointed out to me by a student, and I said what!? Really, did not know that it was racist! Will try to get better, I promise.
I agree! Like schiano before him Flood failed to definitively name a starter based on his and the staffs analysis. Pick a QB and stick with it!It's a little annoying how this played out, I must admit. I wanted a definitive announcement of who was chosen as the starter, and instead we got a "Laviano's suspended, and Rettig will start" announcement.
You got it. It's so obvious that Laviano had/has won the job. Why in the world would you split reps between QB's if Rettig was the starter outright? it goes against everything Flood's been saying about playing the QB's. Rettig is only getting the reps because he's got to start the first game and Flood has no choice but to play him.I hear you Spartan, but the reality of the situation is that this scenario gives the perfect opportunity to play both players against Norfolk. He can now make a decision based on actual game play, and not scrimmages. Flood has a favorite, and based on his reaction to Rettig starting, it ain't him!
Rettig is now looking over his shoulder, the exact scenario Flood wanted to avoid, but that was before the emergence of Rettig. As a coach he should have embraced Rettig's first start, but did the opposite. Laviano blew his chance with a very immature(his words) decision, and breaking not only University rules, but State laws as well.
Mark my words, any situation, a bad handoff, bad pass, interception, anything on the field during the first half of the Norfolk game, and you will see Laviano in the second half, as well as the rest of the season!
IMHO
