Article on RUMLAX Freshman Who Enrolled Early

Definitely seems to be ready for this challenge.
If the kids are incredible talents or are older than the average senior, I guess it makes sense. Are these kids going to be difference makers for RU this year? If not, I don't see the benefit for Rutgers, or any program.

Coyne is 17.

The benefit, even if he didn't play, is he comes in, redshirts, gains experience and is way ahead of the kids in the next class.

Lax isn't like football. Redshirts aren't nearly as common, especially if there isn't an injury involved.

Clearly these two kids are special. They graduated early, which most kids don't do, and they want to get on with their lives. It's a win win.

But these kids can plan. It won't be a surprise to see Coyne get some run. Guys like that, you want in your program as fast, and as long as possible.

If they redshirt or are superstars, I can see the logic. Especially if they are at a high school where they would just dominate.

Again, no issue with getting them in early and red shirting or having them be dominant/key contributors. In most cases, I'll take 4 years from 18-21 v 17-20. Unlike other sports, star players aren't leaving early, so what's the rush? Hate to see wasting a year or losing a medical redshirt.

Well. In this case ND was knocking on his door until signing day. He could have been at risk and maybe wanted to play right away.

Every kid is different. Bottom line is it was the night move for the kids and the program.

I don’t like it. I understand the locking him up thought when nd was calling, but other than that it doesn’t make sense for a spring sport.

Enjoy the last of youth, fall ball would be here soon enough. Go to the prom kid

If it works for the kid and the program, that's all that matters.

I'm with you on this. Someone can never go back, so enjoy that time as a senior where you're king of the world.

If you saw him play, he was already king of the world in high school. As a D1 athlete, you are kind of king of the world too.

- get to live on campus with college chicks? CHECK!

- get a head start on college chicks before thousands of new dudes show up Aug 31st? CHECK!

- go home at end of semester to the girls graduating in your high school class who drool all over you because you're already playing college lax? CHECK!!!

....yeah, I think I'll skip the last few months of senior year for that and do so without even giving it a second thought to be honest lol!
