As Pike Said, That Was Elite Defense! Favorite Stat: we've held all of our home opponents (except MD) to their lowest scoring output of the season

It was also just home opponents, to be clear. We didn't hold any road/neutral opponents to season low (this is not to detract from our defense!)

Gotcha. Although even on the road we've been impressive defensive scoring wise (except for Temple), as OSU has only scored less than they did against us (67 - which should've been 64!) once, scoring 65 against E. Ill., and Purdue only scored less than the 64 against us in one game (Austin Peay, where they scored 63). And Miami's lowest point total this season was 2 points less than the 68 they scored against us. Probably need to change the thread title, though, lol...

I never thought the defense could be this good, even knowing how Geo held the back court back defensively from achieving its full potential, I didn’t see this much improvement happening with him gone.

Gotta give Pike his due just incredible stuff and Spencer is really so aware it’s a treat to watch him get in passing lanes and help without over helping.

And if those late threee didn’t fall for MD. The basically couldn’t miss at the end they would have been close to just 40 points. Awesome. 8 and 5 min scoring droughts. Passers thrown out of bounds. They were seeing ghosts.

Maryland went 8 for 11 or something like that from 3 after their terrible start... which just barely saved them from scoring under 50...

Incredible really

I don’t think the difference has much to do with Geo. If anything, Cam neutralized the loss of Geo’s defense in the backcourt more than anticipated, but Geo didn’t “hold us back” defensively last year.

With another year of off season development, Paul and Cliff improved defensively. Hyatt has improved too. Caleb is Caleb. Never any doubt. The biggest change though is Mag vs. Ron at the 4. Ron is an offensive stud, but Mag is a considerable upgrade on the defensive end at that position. Put all of that together and you have a much better defense.

That stat shows the importance of the 3 point shot in reducing leads and winning games at crunch time.
