Ash has team coming in at 5am for workouts

They should have been coming in at 5AM since Jan 3rd, after this disaster of a season. Hopefully players were self motivated enough to working out on their own. Every minute is critical to making us more competitive in the B1G. Winter break is almost over. Better late than never, I suppose.

Should they have commuted from home for those 5 am meetings?

I don't understand....Ash said the players return to campus on Monday to check in and 5 AM workouts start on Tuesday.

i thought winter conditional goes from mid January to the start of Spring practice.

Everything you said is correct, but this is the Rutgers board where posters can deny student athletes their winter/holiday break so they can workout at 5am...while the poster is enjoying his vacation and sitting home thinking of dumb sh!t to post. I guess any team that has a bad year should cancel all vacations and breaks and workout at 5am...that'll turn things around.

Considering the best two teams were playing up until last night with little to no vacation, you would think lesser teams would want to work just as hard over the same timeframe - unless they are content with be LESSER.

This board is mentally challenged, seriously. How many teams canceled winter break to workout at 5 am, then went on to win a NC? The fact is, the two teams that played last night did exactly what Ash is doing now...they built solid programs.

The two teams that played last night didn't have much of a vacation because they were prepping for a championship...I checked, neither program sacrificed their winter break last year to get there. I guess they know what most sane people know, it's a stupid thought. But hey, like I said, this is the Rutgers board...lol

Have the coaches settled in to NJ yet? Did they buy homes and move their families in?

Beats coming home and hitting the sack around 5 am after a long night of home invasions, fighting for parking spaces and partying with a fake ID I guess.
Way to sweep the current team and players into the same basket as a few other indivuduals. assuming you graduated from Rutger, should the logic of guilt by association deem you a home invader as well? Get real and stop posting this needless crÆp

Sorry. Didn't mean to ruffle your Pom Poms. I meant the post to contrast the two coaching regimes rather than a jab at current players who have clean arrest records. However for the record, I do believe one fellow still on the team was caught using a fake ID just before the opener last season. So please ... lighten up and enjoy life a little bit more.

I sat back, enjoyed my holiday's, ate an ungodly amount of food, drank way too many adult beverages, scanned the boob tube for all the games, watched the wife clean up, and then slept. But, I'm not 18 years old trying to prepare for the most physical sport I can think of. I'm not trying to improve all my athletic and mental abilities to be a Division I football player. You want to play the game, then at some point you have to pay the piper.
Those of you who are complaining about these poor little kids, that have to get up early, and go to bed early to acquire a level of excellence, which you have no idea or notion on how to achieve, are obvious game board wizards, or devoted "participant" parents.
This is how it happens folks! There is no pill, no book, no wishing well that will give you the qualities to achieve goals, other than hard work, and sometimes, at hours which most of us don't seem to even know exist!
Ash, has to see what these kids are made of, and there is no simple way to do this other than to push them to their limits. And, then push some more. Sorry some of you think this is unfair, or think this is something unique to this coaching staff, fostered by "a Rutgers board," how stupid is that! So, go back to your nice kids, with overpriced cell phones, cars, clothing, hairstyles, shoes, and leave those that actually know how to accomplish things, do their jobs. Me, I'm going to take a nap.

Got to agree with you on this one kj

5 Way Tie BE Champs Banner will NOT be celebrated under this regime.

(I am embarrassed for RU it ever was)

(I always felt stronger and had more "pop" in the afternoon workouts compared to that year I had morning workouts. The coaches must have disagreed.)

I think cancelling winter break for your players might just not be the thing to do while going down the homestretch of the recruiting season.

Getting them in at 5 AM for the workout is the same reason that the fighter gets roadwork in at 5 AM......toughness........yes it is easier and you felt better in the afternoon.......the point of the 5 AM workout is to see who is tough enough at the 5 AM workout.....same way the fighter that runs at 5 AM believes that what gets him up off the mat when he gets knocked down ....not running at 9 AM or 3 PM

Getting up at 5am also will reduce the possibility of people getting in trouble for extra-curricular activities...

Its going to be really hard to be out raising hell at 2am and then getting up at 5 to practice..

NCAA violations would have been an interesting way to start the Ash regime!

What time did they start conditioning under Schiano and Flood? Early morning workouts are the norm so as to not interfere with class schedule with first period starting @8am. Why is this even news?

Al, no matter how hard you try to be your old optimistic self, your negativity towards Ash keeps slipping through. You are apparently still butthurt that your boys Golden and Cristobal were spurned by RU.

I was wondering if anybody was going to bring this up. Both Schiano's and Flood's Rutgers teams came in for winter conditioning at 5 a.m. This is no different than under the previous staffs.

Couple of points. Kids are not on campus till Monday night. First practice is Tuesday morning. No practices this week as stated by OP.

Second, Rutgers has been practicing in the morning under flood for some time now. All there practices are very early in the morning. That's when they practice and all of the players have their schedules built to support that. Nothing really new there either.

1st Prediction: This roster is going to look like an exterminator going to town on an infestation over the next 18 months. These kids are used to being coddled (just watch the darn winter conditioning videos they would post on R vision) or listen to what the mods have said about practices. Ash is basically seeing who has the mental toughness to be a D1 player and these guys won't be used to it.

2nd Prediction: After players start transferring, several posters start questioning if Ash is a good coach because a lot of players who weren't qualified to play here are transferring.

This is common. It the best time simply because no one has an excuse to miss them because of a class. The only other time would be after8 or 9 pm however coaches like to be free then to work on recruiting.

I agree that 5am is the ideal time for workouts, I don't think anybody had an issue with the time or intensity of the workouts. The silly idea of breaking NCAA rules and making players workout over winter break is what I disagreed with.

One thing you have to credit Flood for is having the guys in shape. There was nothing wrong with their strength or stamina. I couldn't find the RU workout but this one is similar.

No one is complaining, just that they can't do team activities until school is back on session. Those who did nothing over the break will feel the pain on Tiesday.

Great speech but nobody is complaining about the 5am workouts.

Go ahead and say what you said to the face of any of the players. Several of them distanced themselves from the bad apples and said that's what those arrested were-- a few bad apples.

Should they have commuted from home for those 5 am meetings?

Players at championship programs stay in the dorms during winter break. I don't know what the rules are here, but football players should be accomodated, if they desire to be.

we can make up for a lack of talent. Can't afford to be outworked.

Monday is essentially mid-January and it is when students will be back on campus.

losers talk about NCAA violations. Champions go the extra mile to do what they have to. This squad needs every edge they can get.

Al, Ash and this new direction is the best thing that's happened to Rutgers. Sorry you and the grassy knoll gang haven't warmed up to Ash. No worries - you will, soon enough.
