Ash to Coach tOSU Bowl Game

----
Now this is a little over the top..... There is no reason that we cannot discuss the possible problems with our new coach delaying his start here..... Even if coaches regularly wait to start full time, I am sure fan bases everywhere get a bit concerned about the delay....... Signing day is not far off..... We have no staff.... And we cannot discuss?
This issue should've been voiced once in a thread and people could nod their heads and say it would've been great if he didn't have the bowl game to distract him. And then people should've moved on.

Instead, we've created a dozen threads, each of them trying to outdo the other with assumptions and whiney-ness and butt-hurt. So yeah, while this is certainly a topic worth a bit of discussion, it's certainly NOT a topic worth people venting their spleens and carrying on like a bunch of spoiled children.

His job history shows that he is a real job-hopper. He doesn't spend much time at each place...so it's important to him that he not burn any bridges. This all may be a big indicator that he's viewing RU as a stepping stone to a better coaching job. Must my .02 cents.
Are you serious with this post? In case you are
His first real job wa at ISU where he stayed for 6 years. Being it's ISU I'd be there was a HC change.
He goes to SDSU for one year before returning to Iowa State.
He joins Bielimea's staff at Wisconsin were he stays for three years before beign brought with his HC to his new post at Arkansas. He leaves Arkansas to become DC at one of the best programs in the country under the best coach in the country.

Good. That means he's well-motivated to succeed here. Because he ain't moving on to a better job unless he does a great job here. If he does well, we'll have to pay him more to retain him. If he shits the bed, we'll fire him. This is business, not a marriage.

We have an active board here with passionate fans, which I think is a big plus..... At this point in time multiple threads approaching the same topic are the norm, and me personally, I enjoy reading every single post in every single thread....

It is what we are here..... There are other boards with limited traffic if you prefer, that hardly discuss this..... For me that is boring...

Plus, it is just the nature of the profession.

I take your point. I do enjoy the passion of our message-board fans. But you have to admit that we can be a little ridiculous about things sometimes.

Of course we should be able to discuss the possible problems with him coaching OSU through the bowl. The problem in people are not interested in discussing the issue, it is just over the top whining and complaining.

I have concerns but I don't feel like it is whining, just discussing..... We should be able to discuss anything, as long as no one gets overly critical of the decision, or just mocks those who they disagree with.

we should all be able to read and post differing opinions..

. The post I singled out here resorts to insult, and deserved to be called out.

But the trading of insults is one of the childish things I enjoy about this place dammit!

Yep..... You know my favorite?.... The extended and multiple threads about how we did not kill the clock properly at the end of a game this year, leaving six seconds or so for the other team.... Forget which game it was

Yet I still had no problem with that overall, it was fun to read.....
Again, it is what we do..... We certainly care.

For those who present their thoughts as you do, it doesn't come across as whining at all. For others I unfortunately can't say the same.

It is certainly worthy of discussion but I really dislike the fact that so many are jumping to conclusions before listening to the press conference during which this topic is certain to come up. I wasn't thrilled with it initially but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense and I can't believe our new coach would set himself up to fail in his new job simply to honor a commitment. Let's let this play out before jumping off the ledge.

Here's the real problem and a lot if it starts with Rivals. People are more concerned with how many LIKES they receive that they post stuff more for getting LIKES and not for actual knowledge or content. JMO

People aren't whining and complaining?

Incredible. Over an hour has gone by since the presser and notwithstanding 533 posts and 13,800 views on the subject on this thread alone, unless I missed them, there has been barely a comment made on Ash's response to the question. Where did all the outrage go?

That's progress.Maybe the change in culture is starting to take hold (joke to self).

After the presser I was fine with Ash coaching OSU, but if this tweet is accurate I have my doubts again.

So who are the visitors visiting?

KF assistant coaches who would technically be still coaching for Rutgers or any of KF assistant coaches Ash would appoint to his staff. Not sure if he is interviewing KF assistants before he leaves.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

So JUST the 3 guys who already enrolled? People need to relax if this is the case.
Well they don't enroll until next semester. They are not locked in until spring semester starts and they are in class. Up until then they can flip. It's a chance to meet Pollock and Snead, 2 kids from Florida and leaders of the class. I'm sure they will be disappointed if they don't get to meet Ash.

The easy answer is for you to give likes to posts with knowledge and content.

I like posts that I like. It's pretty straightforward. Whether it's funny, informative, or a lot of times, just someone posting exactly what I was thinking.

I may be the lone wolf on this but I feel Ash not being here for this weekends visit is wrong on multiple levels. Even if the recruits already committed it should not matter.

Asshole would be the more appropriate term than lone wolf

I Come here in peace, why the harsh response? I don't use any disparaging remarks about any of the posters here because I feel everyone is entitled to an opinion.

That's it? I don't follow recruiting so I have no idea but if it's just 3 guys already enrolled I don't see a big deal. I assumed it was a bunch of uncommitted recruits then it would be surprising to me for him not to be here. Then I'd be wondering if he was wanting to offer any of those prospects or would prefer others. Does anyone know for sure who is suppose to be visiting this weekend and how many?

Sorry for the strong words but you must not have listened to the press conference

Or maybe he listened carefully but still disagrees with Ash's decision.

Look, I'm comfortable with Ash prepping for and coaching out the OSU bowl game. So it appears I'm on your side of that argument. But it's not like the counter-argument is entirely without merit. People should be able to disagree w/out being called assholes.

I just found an article on it, it doesn't seem as big a deal as some were making it out to be. For someone who doesn't follow recruiting at all like me, I just assumed it was a big weekend but it looks like just those 3 mid year enrollees and he is going to see them just not this weekend.

From the article:

Ash plans to return to Ohio State on Tuesday for practice and then he'll hit the road recruiting for Rutgers

Three recruits planning to enroll in January — linebacker Jonathan Pollock, running back Trey Sneed and linebacker Solomon Manning — are scheduled to arrive on campus for their official visits this weekend. Ash said he will not be at Rutgers on Saturday or Sunday.

"We have some players that may potentially be mid-year enrollees that I need to get out and see," Ash said. "This is the only opportunity for me to be able to do that, and I plan on doing that this week."

Athletic director Pat Hobbs said he spoke with Ash about the arrangement during the interview process. Hobbs believes Ash coaching the Buckeyes against Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl will provide positive exposure for Rutgers

"I want people to know that Chris Ash has accepted the Rutgers position," Hobbs said. "I want that announced on national television that Chris Ash is coming to Rutgers University. It says something about what he sees and it says something about what we believe in the possibility of Rutgers University.

Ash said he would see the folks coming in early; thought that would end the " argument", that's all.

I understand, just pointing out that there's more than one way to address people that might not have seen it.

And I actually enjoy the trading of insults. But my approach is that I only insult people who've insulted me first. Or at least I try to do that. Most of the time. Well, sometimes. Now and then? Nevermind. LOL

Ash is going to be doing a lot of things (and some of them he is not going to discuss) ... he may be trying to reel in a star recruit ... he may be trying to entice a talented Assistant to bring their skills to Rutgers .... he ain't telling .... there may be multi-day blocks of time where we may not even know what time zone he is in.

Some fans may feel that he should be wearing an ankle bracelet monitor so there can some sort of accounting of how he is allocating his time to permit them to pass judgment on whether or not it meets their satisfaction in terms of % dedicated to Rutgers - - this is nonsense & it is not happening

The discussion of how he is spending the next 25 days is over .

I understand what your saying and in the end it may turn out to be a home run for Rutgers, especially if the announcers make it a point to advertise the "Ash going to Rutgers hire". Who knows he may be able to poach some decent athletes from the mid west. At the end of the day we all want the same thing and that is for this program to start winning.

As for my original post I thought it was common for HC's to immediately sever ties and start getting the staff in place, review current athletes and seek out potential recruits.

Urban Meyer is probably being a bit of dick and won't let him leave or maybe he thinks his other defensive coaches are incompetent and they can't do the job without Ash. Anyway, if this weekend is the last weekend for OV before the dead period than Ash should be trying to get as many recruits on campus as possible. It is an important weekend and Ash should be here for it.
