Ash's Hubris

This isn't related to Ash as much as just any new executive taking over. You see it when new CEOs takeover a struggling company. Sometimes kitchen sink all the bad news into a qtr and they get a nice clean slate to work with and a very very low bar to cross over. Now sometimes it's warranted and sometimes it just the new CEO making it easier on himself by lowering expectations below where they realistically should be.

Yes, this is fairly standard executive speak, but you only hear it when new leaders are coming into shaky/poor situations or replacing leaders who were fired or forced to resign. When a leader leaves a successful enterprise, the incoming leader usually makes noises more like like "even better" and "not missing a beat" or whatnot.

Pretty sure in this case the "we need to rebuild everything" talk was warranted.

He did run off Russo making it clear to him that he wouldn't fit in the system. He did bring in a kicker that can't kick past the 20. Get the facts straight. Our coaches stood on the field when the kid kicked and evaluated him. You and I could tell how far he could and couldn't kick. Not that hard to measure when the ball comes down.

Why did they continue to recruit him? Mehringer talked him hug up on twitter.

Chris Sailer had Smolar ranked 7th in the country.

Which of my facts were wrong?

Ash seems very clear with his vision to me.

There are some seriously clueless, uninformed posts, in this thread. Expecting Ash to detail or "lay out" his vision in a post-game presser is beyond moronic.

The OP? Always has been, and always will be, clueless when it comes to sports because he think he knows more than others due to his donor status. He is also a HUGE Flood supporter and, from what I've heard, "buddy." This is the guy who said that Ash has "no recruiting ability," the day he was hired, when every article and every quote from every coach he's ever been around said just the opposite. As did the big 10 personalities.

I guess being ranked 7th in the country doesn't translate into touchbacks. You are correct he was ranked 7th. However touchbacks are more important aren't they?

Of course, you said he did not bring in a kicker and that is clearly not true .

I agree it's usually some "negative" situation when you hear that talk. My point is just how "negative" can be up for debate. Sometimes it is really really bad and it's warranted but sometimes it's not as bad as it may seem but the executive is making the future comparisons easier on himself and lowering the bar below probably where it should be.

Sure... but I don't think this was some sort of hubris, where Ash was saying "Only I can save this place"... I think it was more him setting the expectation that he was going to have widespread changes throughout the program that need to be in place before we can move forward.

Exactly. Some people (see: the OP) completely forget what a cocky, arrogant jerk, many here felt Schiano was from pretty much Day 1. Loved Greg but Ash doesn't hold a candle to him in that department lol!

No way. Wouldn't hurt for Ash to bring in an experienced OC as a co-OC or something. But Mehringer is clearly very smart and hard working and seems to connect with recruits. What Mehringer needs is weapons and a bit more experience (which having an experienced co-OC would help). Once has has that, if he still can't get it done, then cut him lose. Until then, it's premature.

To me when you set a D1 record for punts, there has to be a change. Most of the other lower rung B1G teams were not blanked nevermind 4 times.

I just do not agree that someone "very smart" could manage to score zero times against a 2 win team. Are we worse than Furman?

I agree with the OP. His initial tone was one of condisention He completely ignored any success we had in the previous 10 years. he is in over his head. minimum 4 years to fre him and 3 more to rebuild. This class falls apart and we are in for a long ride

Condisention?
