Attn Coach Ash:Rutgers will remain #ChopNation

Ash is changing the decorations on the walls people. Talk about melodramatics.
I guess we can go 4-8 for the next decade, just as long as we 'keep choppin' melodramatics is an understatement, lol

I'm with you on this one, BUT, a tad funny this comment is coming from a guy bitching about what CC is wearing to a press conference in the middle of a blizzard! [cheers]

Well I - and others - were curious as to why, in that thread, you greatly misrepresented the # of HC's who were in attendance. Not the end of the world, don't get me wrong, it was just, well, odd.
I love the #ChopNation or chop whatever. It's unique for us and all the kids use it and love it. It's on Tshirts and everything that sell well also. Keep it! So far I haven't seen anything more clever or appealing and it takes years to build it up. Chop works, everyone still uses it and recognizes is for it. It's motivating, has a hand gesture and all.
It's not unique to Rutgers. Fla St, Atlanta Braves, U of Fl-alligator chop, are all associated with "chop". No one outside of Rutgers identifies "chop" with you guys.

Did I miss it somewhere or did Ash ask the fanbase

I have no idea what one has to do with the other but OK...by the way I'm not bitching about what CC was wearing during his 'surprise, emergency, blizzard press conference'...it's called situational awareness, he held an emergency press conference to let the people of NJ know all is well, while wearing a Delaware fleece.

I don't care what he was wearing, he could've been naked for all I care, ewww I take that back, lol. Seriously though, for me it's more about awareness than what he was wearing.

It's the irony in it all. You're siding with the "melodramatic" guys, in that thread, while calling out guys for being as such in this one.

I guess that's where we disagree, I don't think it's melodramatic for people to expect the Governor to rep the state...we expect teenagers to do it so why not the Governor.

Wow. Some of you "chop" guys have the imagination of a bookkeeper. Please. It was cute and it worked under Schiano. It is and never was a "tradition." The block R wasn't new. If you look back in history Rutgers had the block R before. Schiano was wise enough to bring it back.

The fact that we have a thread arguing about what our new coach is doing or not doing is not only beyond silly, but petty and vindictive. To some of you here including the OP give it a rest already. You seem to love living in the past as if under Schiano we won several conference championships and top ten finishes to warrant keeping an unimaginative slogan that's as creative as reality TV. Give it a rest already!

Ripping down all the chop signs is extreme and dumb. Honestly some of what this guy does reminds me of these recruits who get big heads.

Guy hasn't been a winning HC yet. He needs to chill out. I sense a ton of arrogance so far.

For those who keep claiming "he can do whatever he wants! He has big plans!". That's great. Many people - esp new coaches have big plans. He has no HC track record to go on. So I will question his arrogance which I think is pretty damn evident at this point. Hopefully it pays off. It may not, and he did not have to approach it this way.

Granted that you might have overstated your case, but I see some arrogance in Coach Ash also. He believes everything associated with Meyer and OSU is superior to everything that was associated with RU. I don't necessarily see that as a bad thing, as it signifies that he strongly believes in doing things the OSU way, which means being in the Top 10 every year.

He is young, and this IS his first stint as a head coach. He didn't need to trash everything associated with the past regime, but he believes he can do everything better. He is not mature enough in his development to realize that every regime has some things they do well. It probably would be easier for him to move the program up quickly if he had evaluated the state of the program before his arrival and decided which aspects to maintain, but the cockiness of inexperience clouded his view.

I am not sure if it will matter that much or at all, since his determination to succeed, his attention to detail, and his focus on the keys to success will be far more important.

Accepting "chop-nation" as a motto that young people find as relevant in no way would have detracted from his efforts to take us to the next level and might even have helped, but I doubt if it will hinder his success in the end.

As for those who want to end this tradition because they associate it with Coach Flood, nothing could be more ignorant IMO.

Nobody said they wanted to end the chop because it reminded them of the Flood era...I think it's a willingness to let Ash build his own program....the same leeway that folks gave to Schiano and Flood, as bad as he was.

Well said.

I enjoyed the part where you insult someone's imagination for having a different opinion from what you have, then go on to say this thread in general is silly. I am impressed.

I'm telling you 3rd down Metallica air guitar is next.
From your keyboard to the Fan Experience Manager's eyeballs ...

We should get rid of the Block R too. I mean Schiano invented it, and we have to get rid of everything from the old coaching staffs. And a block letter? How unoriginal. Time to get rid of that R, it has no tradition.
"Greg Schiano invented the R?"

"This comes as news to us."

Why would anyone want to use something, "i.e. Chop" that is perceived by others outside of Rutgers as belonging to another school? I dont get it? If you're recruiting in Florida you're just confusing people down there.

Agree. It was a "Greg" thing - which is fine I loved it - but it really has nothing to do with Rutgers or the Scarlet Knights, when you think about it, in the grand scheme of things.

I agree, 'Chop' won't make or break the program one way or the other.

He is 41, I would think he is pretty mature.

Epic Fail
I know, its hard for an outsider to get it. Rutgers was never a semi-pro team like Ohio State. Epic Fail to me is tearing down all Rutgers tradition to be more like a mid-western football factory with zero academic value or pedigree.

Seriously, you are taking a shot at Ohio State's academics? Maybe you were talking about Michigan or Wisconsin? This thread is getting more absurd by the minute.

So I'm clear about this, you're saying that going from mediocrity to superiority in college football is only possible by tearing down your traditions and diluting your academic value and pedigree?

I'm asking for a friend.

First off, going from mediocrity to superiority in football has not happened, although I hope it does. I doubt the essence of the transition is dependent on demeaning Rutgers entire football history, from Alex Kroll to Frank Burns to the current Patriots' secondary. I would be more impressed by him actually doing something , like landing a recruit or keeping one, as opposed to making such a big deal about changing everything.

"Him" in this case is Chris Ash, right? Because I don't seem "him" making a big deal about changing everything.

Agree....right now results trump slogans..

San Fran, has coach Ash said anything other that he is going to change Rutgers culture?

#knightthemup

Word is this is one that some insiders are fond of during recruiting season, since it is more about the program and the process of bringing new people into a new culture.......
