Coming through on the Twitterverse that he could be announcing his retirement this week.

Didn’t he just announce he was staying at least two more years? Hopefully, it is not a health issue for him or his wife.

He was begged by certain people to stay on so maybe he only stayed on out of obligation to those people.

This can be the best thing to ever happen to Rutgers athletics, but I feel like the academics will force us to pick someone even worse for athletics.

Like others have said I hope if he is retiring it's due to him just wanting to enjoy his life and not health issues. With that said, this University better hire a president who understands how B1G athletics can work hand in hand with B1G academics. It's time to have a sports centric president at RU.

Last year he announced that at the request of the Board, he would stay on at Rutgers for 2 more years (2018-19 academic year and 2019-20 academic year).

He is expected to announce this week that he will retire at the end of that commitment, at the end of the 2019-20 academic year.

It is common practice for a university president to announce his retirement about a year in advance, to give the university time to conduct a search and bring in a new president.

Agree with the first part of what you said, but want the President to be academics centric but understand the importance of having a strong presence in athletics.

Barchi will turn 73 in November or so. He has stayed here longer than anyone anticipated when he was hired; it was thought he'd be out of here at 70. Given that few of the University's resources can be used to actually educate students, I'm sure his predecessor will also want to lower the deficit, although perhaps not eliminate it. Although I do not care for many things about Barchi, he has helped the University raise money and become better.
