Baseball Question

Not HRod and positive he can give a much better answer.

I'd imagine it's tough for a northeastern team to get a whole lot of love. You do have a Maryland or Uconn cracking the Top 25 on and off the last couple years.

For example right now BC is#17 in the Coaches Poll. Ahead of them are 8 teams from the SEC, 4 others from the ACC, 2 Big 12, 1 PAC12, and 1 non power 5 (East Carolina). When people think good college baseball, they look south or west first.

I don't think we are strong enough to make the NCAA's this year. Weakpoint is pitching.
They need to take at least 1 this weekend at UConn, not lose weekday game to #200+ teams, and do really well in the B1G to even be in the conversation imo. Of course winning the B1G tournament means an auto bid.

Their SOS is so much stronger than '22. That could help somewhat.

Coastal Carolina won the whole thing in 2016. Gives all programs the notion that big things can happen.

Drew Conover to the closer position. He wouldn’t be the first to make that move not only in college but for the future. We are losing games due to an inability to close out games. His pro potential is not going to be impacted greatly. Kid has a live arm and has done it before I believe at Seton Hall. This may help us all around developing some of the others on the staff. Recruiting top flight pitching will get done eventually but remember where most premier NJ prospects have matriculated to over the years.Warm weather and top flight facilities matter to these kids. Now add in NIL funding players and it’s another issue . Portal offers some help but Owens needs to win again in 2023 In order to sell this Rutgers product. UConn has been an established Top eastern club all the way back to our Big East days. Top staff and head coach who somehow brings in pitching from west coast.

One other thing …unless climate change has passed NJ by Connecticut is as cold if not colder than our beautiful Garden of Eden.

RU softball brought in 2 freshman pitchers from California. One has become the ace of the staff.

That alone is the main reason why softball may arguably be the single most improved sport at RU this year. Went from an afterthought to legit competing in the B1G this year.
