I read through this article, and it really discusses problems rather than any sort of ideas. The writer did draw a few direct comparisons to Rutgers by name in discussing the frustrations of big time athletics. But it does make one wonder if historically weak programs will ever see the light of day? The edge that the big programs have seems to growing every day. Not very flattering for Addazio, as he seems place football issues on the coach, while the basketball situation seems to focussed more on institutional landscape.

I do have to say I feel RU is in a better place to succeed, but only time will tell.

I probably should have titled this "you think we had a crappy class".

Any does anyway, current comparison of BC success this year is valid, which school will be more successful in the future, or are we both doomed?

I can't speak for basketball recruiting, but football should be a lot better than it is. BC has a nationwide feeder system of catholic schools to harvest each season, and aside from the free agent recruits these schools get, the kids at those schools dream of playing football for BC, just like that TE with the weird name.

The right coach would bring that school up to prominence just looking at top kids from Catholic schools that have Notre Dame offers.

I think they dream of playing for Notre Dame and settle for BC. Just as most of the BC students couldn't make the cut to get under the Golden Dome

I've lived in the Boston area for nearly 35 years and have seen the rise and fall of BC. Ironically the demise of BC basketball and football began with their leaving the old Big East for the ACC. Suddenly BC was a fish out of water trying to recruit in the Atlantic coast region against all of the traditional ACC powers. BC soon learned that few top recruits were willing to leave the area to venture north. Unfortunately for BC , there just isn't enough top football and B-ball talent in its traditional recruiting area of Mass and Ct for BC to recruit successfully against the ACC powers . And with the rise of Rutgers, NJ and NY talent just wasn't heading to Boston. And now with Rutgers in the Big Ten , there are just that many more top schools like tOSU and Michigan to compete for talent in the NY and NJ area. BTW, the demise of Syracuse in football and possibly b-ball after Boeheim leaves will likely follow BC's path to ineptitude.

Syracuse and BC recruit more of the recruits in the Big Ten states, Mid West than in any other ACC states. They really are dependent on NJ recruits and once we get the Top NJ 11-25 recruits back again then they won't have any decent recruits.

BC has been in the ACC for 11 years; RU in the BIG just 2, and will not be pulling full revenue for several more years (and the BIG is a better place to be than the ACC). RU also has a natural recruiting base; BC's only recruiting niche is the Catholic school kids who do not go to ND (not a big pool). RU is in a much better position to succeed long term.

In a few posts it was stated that two assistant coaches departed BC immediately after signing day - names? who were these coaches that left & what role were they playing?

Adding this together with previous departures & the precarious atmosphere surrounding Addazio, and this staff virtually carries the "interim" stigma - and few are going to be on any other school's 'short list' - - This has to make a true BC fan wince, because in this environment, every single decision will be made exclusively from a pressurized ultra short horizon / staff survival perspective.

Yes the recruiting landscape has changed BC/Syracuse 11 years in ACC did not help them in recruiting. Rutgers to the B1G was a gag over their starving mouth of recruiting. It will get worse as we become entrenched in the B1G every game we win will push BC/Syracuse further irrelevant, making it harder and harder to recruit.
Look at both of their rosters they are going more and more national as they are losing local talent to Rutgers PoSU Maryland. NE talent value education, Now with us in the best academic conference BC/sara will have even a harder time moving forward.

Boston College fired Al Skinner, they were IDIOTS to do so!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_Skinner

He was 247–165 with 7 NCAA appearances in 13 years.

Plain stupid, a good coach can win at any school in bbal.

I wonder who the dummies were that jumped on a sinking ship....

As I posted in a different thread, the downturn for BC football and hoops has nothing to do with move to the ACC. Previous AD was an egomaniac and got greedy. Demanded huge donation levels for seat location and parking. He thought both sports needed to take a step to the next level (conference championships, BCS bowl, deeper NCAA run). He fired Skinner and forced out O'Brien. Neither coach was perfect and you could justify a change, but DeFillippo struck out on both replacements. He had never hired a coach for a major sport as an AD and his track record at BC is abysmal.
