Bergen Catholic Freshmen offered

Is offering a freshman really meaningful for the RU program or the candidate/recruit? Just seems symbolic, no?

What year did Rutgers offer the kid who flew the coop for Tennessee whose Dad was a significant player at Rutgers years ago? Is this freshman a potential legacy too? I notice you titled it "Freshmen" not "Freshman". Who are the others?

Here he is with his classmates in repeated 8th grade, looking like Billy Madison. His handlers decided it was the good move. PS- IMO he will wrestle in college.

wish we would stop offering these recruits so young. Make em wait and earn an offer. I want the elite NJ kids to be going into their senior year wondering where their Rutgers offer is. Stop being the desperate chick, play hard to get rutgers.

Here is what this youngster said in an interview:

"(Rutgers is) a great school and I definitely wouldn't pass them up. I'm definitely interested, so we'll see what happens and what other offers come and keep working from there."

Coached-crafted words of wisdom from a HS frosh. Sheesh....

He's a once in a decade type of prospect. My understanding is he had his sights set on leaving. But there's many a slip twixt a cup and a lip. He might be even more outstanding as a wrestler than as a football player. He's from Ocean, and is in hs in Berger county. Funny how that works lol

Handlers, I hate Handlers. Has Rutgers ever gotten a kid who had Handlers?

He's also a bit older than the other kids in his grade. NJ.com (sorry, I read it) did a couple of articles on him that were really good. He has a whole team of personal trainers already. I'm not so sure his ceiling is as high as some think. I'm thinking he's just ahead of his classmates because of all the hours of training and in 4 years many will catch up and he'll be a good, but not "elite" recruit. Time will tell.

This pic is absolutely for real. It was in the NJcom 5 part series (headlines everyday) on the making of HS Superstar. I'm not linking this 5 part series, but it's easy to find. He's probably not growing more height wise , so I think this kid, will wrestle in college (he's considered the best at his weight in the state and country for middle school last year). Can you imagine the pressure on this kid? Plus commuting so far away and not being with your brother at Wall HS who you played w on almost every team growing up? He'll get great coaching in wrestling at BC , not so sure about football.

Is this for real?

Scanned the articles - general impression:

- potential best case scenario = he grows well over 6ft continues to gain strength speed & agility, keeps his grades up at a very very high level, remains well grounded - - gets full ride at athletically & academically premium school of his choice - plays in the NFL if he wishes.

- really good scenario= does not get much bigger - but keeps his grades up at a very very high level, remains well grounded - - remains a good athlete (but not "superstar") - gets full ride at academically premium school of his choice that also has competitive sports programs - sets himself up to pursue the career of his choice

- worst case = allows the collection of handlers and trainers and all the attention to mess with his head & lose perspective.

This has the look of a warped story, but the kid aces school, aces athletics, stays out of trouble, seems to enjoy the process.

I guess there is potential pitfalls in such a hyper focused childhood but look out your window, there is potential pitfalls in a "normal" childhood as well.

I saw this kid play FB last Fall vs Matawan while playing against 7th and 8th graders for the River Plaza team. You are right. He is way ahead of the other kids his age and is literally a man among boys at that level. Stronger, faster and more talented than anyone on the field. He was a one man wrecking crew on both sides of the ball at RB and MLB. It seemed like he scored most times he got the ball and stuffed Matawans offense by himself on many plays.

I expect that he will also be a star at BC HS. But in 4 years when he's a HS senior I won't be surprised if the other players catch up to him in skills and strength. At least by offering him now we can stay in touch with his progress in HS. It will be interesting to see what he does as a freshman playing varsity this season. I think he'll do well.

I too am skeptical of the hype....he might turn out to be very good, but a lot will depend if he continues to get bigger.... right now he dominates because he outsizes and out strengths....a long way to go to see for sure.....offer him now?...sure, a no brainer...get in early in case

He played on one of my nephews AYF National Championship team a few years ago. I don't claim to be an expert on judging talent, but he is hands down the best youth athlete I have ever seen. He plays in a totally different universe than everyone else on the field.
