Big 10 Ranking and 2/6-2/12 discussion thread

I agree as I said in the above thread . Mathias and Thompson are shooting lights out from three and your freshman , Carsen Edwards is the best of the lot and the fastest and most skilled of your guards. Very impressed with Purdue and the only Big 10 team capable of making a long run in the tourney or a realistic chance to win it all. The only thing that I am reserved on is that Matt Painter's teams have underachieved and disappointing in the tourney. I would think you would agree with that last statement.

Yes the past 2 years they have and the 2 years prior to those they didn't make it at all so we haven't won a NCAA tournament game in the past 4 years.

However, from 2007-2012 we made it each year and won at least one game each of those years so we did about as expected over that time.

One thing he hasn't done yet at Purdue is have a deeper run in the tournament (which is almost universally assumed among Purdue fans we would have if Robbie Hummel hadn't torn his ACL in consecutive years that cut our 2010/2011 potential) but this year could be an opportunity with a decent bracket, some luck, and a good 10 days of basketball.

I also think Purdue has the most upside although I thought the same thing last year or was it two years ago and got burned. Like them more than
Wisconsin. Beginning to believe in NW too. Not sold on Maryland. Will go as far as Trimble takes them.

If your freshman, does not play like a freshman in the tourney and continues to hit big threes, drive hard to the hole, and continues his offensive rebounding and putbacks, then I think the rest of your team are veterans that have been there before. Mathias , Swanigan and Haas , and Vince Edwards coming off the bench have the experience to make that run. Plus come tourney time, teams are going to scout you and try to take away Biggie but you have enough firepower on the rest of the roster to make them pay. 3 guards shooting over 40% from three is outrageous. Wished we had 1, would have won 3-4 more games.

Shooting makes a huge difference. It's not just our guards knocking them down either. Swanigan is hitting 48% (27/56) and Vince Edwards is at 46% (37/81). Carsen Edwards, the freshman, is at 34% for the season but he has improved his shot selection as the season has gone on and he's shooting 39% in conference play. It has been a luxury to have so many shooters. I think we trade off some athleticism but I think it's worth it with how are team is built. If we don't have great shooters, it's easy for a good team to take away our post players. It also makes the game more fun to watch when you know you're a good minute of basketball away from a 9-0 run.

Haven't seen too many of your full games but have been keeping tabs. It seems like they are much more competitive than last season. Playing harder and more organized as a team. I was really pulling for you guys to knock off Wisconsin at MSG. Really wanted someone to just foul Happ on that last possession in regulation to see if he could hit both free throws.
