Big 10 Rankings and Weekend Games Discussion

Down nationally but the league is as competitive as ever. The bottom this league is quite strong compared to other leagues bottom feeders

Watch out next year. B1G is very young right now.

9 of 14 teams will miss no one to graduation next year (including RU, sorry CJ)
Iowa - Jok
Wisc Hayes Koenig
Mich Irvin Walton
Nebraska Webster
Illinios Hill

There are literally only 8 or 9 players in total that will graduate that will be difficult to replace.

looks like Wisky takes that dip in the league standings. I expect Groce to be canned at Illinois

If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
'Til eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

In addition to Hayes & Koenig, Wisconsin also loses Showalter & Brown, which leaves only one starter returning - but it's Happ, so that's a pretty major piece. You guys haven't been in the league for that long, but there have been many times in the past when you think UW is losing a lot to graduation (including entering last year when they had to replace 4 starters in Kaminsky, Dekker, Gasser, and Jackson, plus key reserve Dukan), but they still end up contending with the replacements. While I don't discount the optics that most of the rest of the league will have more and significant returnees, the Badgers usually find a way to contend anyway.

More muddle in the 2nd half of the Big 10 after last night

Ohio State 78 Minnesota 72

Minnesota continued their 4 game skid with a crucial loss at OSU. Gophers are simply going to start having to win some games to stay on track for a NCAA bid. 3-5 and part of a 5 way tie for 9th to 13th place, they almost face a must win game at home to Maryland, after that they get 3 games that NCAA teams win (Iowa, Illinois and RU). Ohio State meanwhile at least keeps their slim NCAA hopes alive by going to 3-5 in league, Important trips to Iowa and Michigan loom as well as an opportunity at home vs Maryland

Illinois 76 Iowa 74

Illini keep their longshot NCAA chances alive by moving into that same 3-5 logjam with Iowa and the aforementioned others. Next up in a trip to Penn State followed by home tilts vs Wisky and Minny where 2 of 3 will be mandatory. Iowa meanwhile continues to run hot and cold but now with 3 straight losses they will welcome a relative soft spot in their schedule with games vs OSU, Nebby, and RU coming up

Tonights games.....Nebraska at Northwestern and Indiana at Michigan

here is a good one for you BAC....predict the 2 1st round B1G games.

#14 Iowa vs. #11 Nebraska
#13 Rutgers vs. #12 Penn State

Gonna disagree. Right now way below ACC and Big 12. Probably below Big East as well.

SEC, Pac 12 and B1G all interchangeable. Poorest B1G year in awhile.

Given the fact there are very few OOC games once conference plays starts your conference stays where it is at in late December. Your conference won't move until the NIT and NCAAs. As I have said we are a very young conference and I think many teams are and will improve as the season goes on.

St. Johns DePaul Georgtown Providence. Would these 4 teams challenge our top 5 B1G teams as much as the 4 worst teams in the B1G?

despite overall sagging Big 10 marks both Minnesota and to a lesser extent Illinois have pretty decent NCAA resumes according to the numbers. SOS is the big factor here. The Big 10 I believe has 12 of 14 schools in the rpi top 100

the bottom BE schools would be below the bottom of the Big 10 if they played in this league

they beat Purdue, usually the tiebreaker goes to the highest ranked school they beat...they have Illinois, Penn State, Ohio State and Nebraska all at home plus Rutgers...you think they are only going 1-4 in these games?

Yes. You don't play defense in the B1G you don't win. Their defensive stats are looking uglier game by game. They were incredibly efficient offensively beating Purdue. Fools gold.

Mark my words....TOAST!

Northwestern wins again...downing Nebby 73-61 and it was a close game but in the last 5 minutes, the Cats went on a huge run to go up 19 and coasted. 6-2 now in league. I think Nebby is the school in freefall that RU may have a shot at passing in the standings.

Meanwhile Michigan up 50-35 on Indiana at half...defense anyone? Wolverines now up 67-43...wtf

Indiana another team that doesn't play D. Paper tigers. I want them out of NCAA tournament

they will be in...nitty gritty stuff is sweet, wins over UNC and Kansas...3-4 vs top 50, 5-5 vs top 100...tough stretch coming up at Northwestern, then easy one vs PSU but then at Wisky and home to Purdue, but after that the schedule lightens up a bit. I wouldnt be surprised if they beat Northwestern on Sunday

They could easily be 15-10 in 2 weeks

Indiana and Michigan State could be NIT

Don't sleep on Michigan. Seniors and a great coach

Beilein IMO is the best X and O's coach in the country.

No Indiana and MSU? Further proof B1G way down. Reminds me of what I fell victim to last year with Pac12. Lots of decent teams and competitive but no great teams.

the Indiana performance was a train wreck, they just laid down and curled into a ball once they went down. I will still say both schools are dancing

TV and NCAA will want them for sure but there may be a point with too many losses. On the other hand MSU can get hot and win Conference tourney easily. Not wowed by anybody.
