Big Ten medical subcommittee to present options for possible return of football in fall

So Holloway sits in the committee that heard today's report and it has been decided to present it to the full board tomorrow. Full stop. That is what we know so far, sans speculation, spin and supposition. That's good news. Let's see how it goes tomorrow.

Please. No more politics, insults and other such poor behavior. Let's try to act like civilized human beings. Post as if our children will read this.

Sounds good to me.
Hopefully the report will show football can start up safely and let the RU season begin .
Lets save our disagreements to the amount of fans allowed in stands .

One of the worst threads ever, led by a "moderator" who consistently posts the worst sources on this topic and COVID, so no surprise there. Putting aside all the BS, there's no way Schiano, Holloway, and Murphy will allow RU to not play while everyone else plays. The talk about the safety of players and staff and their contacts is real, but it's also part of negotiations to make sure we have the testing in place we need to have. IMO, odds are pretty good we'll have fast, frequent antigen screening testing in place by November (and if we don't have that, we truly need much better PCR testing, which has been available for other sports) and the Pac12/B1G will play Jan-March - and if we catch a break, maybe we have those deployed by October allowing a Nov season start (if not sooner). With regard to WI/IA/NE, they've recently peaked or are just peaking (WI), but like many states, people do tend to respond and improve mitigations when they have peaks, so I expect to see cases declining in those states soon.

Personally, I think the "state" issue is far less of an issue than the testing advance required and if we get the testing we need, RU plays. Many experts (see the links below) believe if we had rapid, frequent screening tests deployed we could hugely reduce the number of cases, since fast results are critical to getting infectious people to quarantine, breaking transmission chains far better than when people wait days for PCR test results, which is still common. I continue to crack up at people thinking this is political, when nearly 200K have died and young, infected people can be serious sources of infection for older people/family, who are far more vulnerable to the virus than college students. Not killing more innocent people >> playing football, but with frequent, fast testing I think sports can be played with low risk to athletes and contacts of athletes.

I see your Clinton Foundation and raise you a Trump Foundation and Trump University
May I ask when I ever said I liked or endorsed trump? Here’s a fact... I don’t, lol. Although comparing corruption between trump and the clintons is like asking who was worse, Stalin or hitler... Stalin was awful but hitler was next level... the Clinton’s in particular Hillary are next level

Lots of states allowing 20 to 25 % for fans. Let’s go RU, Jets, Giants.

Short version is bc trump is in office and Holloway doesn’t understand that cfb plays a significant role in many small town’s overall economic health. If a democrat was in office, we would be playing football, it’s that simple. Holloway is full blown corrupt and a puppet of the dnc.

And I agree with you it is going to prove disasterous to not have a season. Especially the way we did it by Holloway being an Indian giver, being on board than backing off once trump got involved after Holloway got that nice check from Soros... but yea picture this next summer as Greg is visiting potential recruits houses next spring if we don’t play “Look I know we haven’t won a conference game since you were in middle school and our university president completely ignored the wants and desires of our players and coaches, but you are waaaaay better off coming here compared to Penn State or Wisconsin.”

yea....
This is a really bad post Holloway has consistently supported not playing football this season based on the medical advice the B1G presidents have received. He hasn't "changed his mind" at all, so I have no idea where you got that idea from - just look at the article below, which discusses his thinking when the original decision was made and even his similar comments from before he took over from Barchi.

Invoking Trump and Soros is simply tin foil hat territory. Holloway made a minor comment about how Trump should be paying attention to far more important things than football and he's right - you know, like a pandemic, a cratered economy and major social unrest. And also, before jumping off the ledge, maybe wait to see what actually happens. I'm pretty sure the B1G and Rutgers are going to be playing football this spring and maybe even late this fall, but that's just my gut feeling.

GS should threaten to resign if we do not play and the rest of the B1G does. Holloway will then start hearing from the fan base as will Murphy. It worked in getting Greg here.

Precisely! After the election! Lol

RU #'s - when responding to yessir321, let me give you a little context, in case you've forgotten. Yessir321 is really a PSU fan, and he enjoys coming to this board to denigrate RU under the false pretenses of being a frustrated RU fan.

I hate douchebags that do that.

From the yahoo article:

”The biggest medical difference available today compared to Aug. 11, when the Big Ten decided to postpone the season, is mainstream availability of daily rapid testing. So far, the Pac-12 and Big 12 have announced partnerships to provide the testing for their schools.”

Does this satisfy Holloway and the others who don’t want to play FB?

PAC-12 is a different situation Involving states of CA and OR.

”A Pac-12 source told ESPN on Friday that the league is in communication with the Big Ten, but the Pac-12's timeline remains dependent on several factors, including governmental approval to return to campus in California and Oregon.”

Isn’t there fast testing available now? I know the NY Giants are using a test on their people where they get the results in 20 minutes.

The NFL is using the standard PCR test (as are the rest of the leagues as far as I know) and simply applying a lot of $$ to ensure they test everyone daily and get results fast. Everyone could get fast results if we had the appropriate testing capacity everywhere, but we don't, as that isn't really scalable for the very complex PCR viral test.

The new antigen tests are scalable for the country, but need more support to make that happen. Sounds like the Pac12 thinks that's doable for their sports teams - my guess is that doing what the NFL is doing with PCR testing for every college sports team (I don't think the colleges can only do this for football) isn't financially teneable, but I think the antigen testing will be, which is why I think we'll see the Pac12 and B1G playing sports, including football.

In my opinion the B1G needs to have an October start, preferably mid October or don't play at all. No reason to not be playing by then. There is not going to be spring football, that is a pipe dream that nobody wants to see.

They really have to move now. Schedule a start for 10/17, 10/24 or face that they're not playing at all. This really is our last chance. Financially the schools really can't afford to not play.
