Biggest Change in Attendance We R B1G

Absolutely true. Hell, if we started knocking off Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan, State Penn and/or Nebraska on a regular basis (obviously not all at once, but say a couple times a season) we'd see interest skyrocket in the NYC metro area.

You're correct, there had definitely been interest in Rutgers: hell, if the situation involving Nebraska hadn't fallen into their laps, it's quite possible we would have gotten in at that point instead of Nebraska.

Also, don't discount the stadium expansion in all of this. Yes, they weren't interested in us having a bigger stadium, but they were very interested in us having a commitment to improving our facilities. Expanding the stadium was a demonstration of that.
I don't doubt that you're right, but if I were the Big Ten, I would have been a lot more interested in Rutgers having a commitment to do things to improve the competitiveness of the program (like better training facilities to attract and develop good recruits) than in the number of seats in the stadium.

True about demands as there were none.

But they did ask questions and weren't too thrilled with some of our answers.
No not at all. They arrived and took a tour of the new Stadium the day before and were shocked. Again it was all about the TV money.

no that was definitely Nebraska time as Alvarez had a hard on for them. They were needed for the champ game payout. Alvarez played that beautifully though as everything worked for Nebraska including the AAU loss of a year later

Every team deserves the same amount of TV time, even if no one will watch them. It's time for these stations to accept the new reality of life.
You're making fun, and that's appropriate. But being older than you are, I can tell you that there was a time when splitting TV revenue equally among all NFL teams was controversial. Pete Rozelle, then NFL commissioner, had to lobby the owners vigorously for it. A similar proposal in MLB in the early 1960s was denounced as "socialism." It's a blessing to Rutgers that the B1G follows this "socialist" approach. Sometimes what once seemed radical becomes the conventional wisdom.

We can dream but I’d argue that if RU ever won the BIG or earned it’s way into the College playoff and hosted a playoff game in the first round against you name it SEC school, it would probably be one of the hottest tickets ever for a sporting event in the NYC metro area.
The hottest ticket in the history of the New York area - by far - is the June cricket game between India and Pakistan.

I applied for tickets and learned the demand was 200 times the number of seats. The game will be played at a makeshift stadium in a Long Island park.

Cheapest seats going for $1,000+ on secondary market.

What is sad is Rutgers could have hosted this game.

Here's a Youtube video. The stadium, which is under construction, will seat 34,000 fans. There have been four million requests for tickets from around the world. Some will be set aside to be raffled off among Nassau County residents.

Was there a particular reason no Rutgers?

If they can get 35000, why not Redbull or Metlife. Doesn't seem specific to Rutgers with other venues in the area that could have been used.

Seems like they wanted to build it for multiple games, I assume with the intention of keeping a higher percentage of profits....

Don't think a cricket field fits into football stadiums.

I wrote about this in November.

Cricket field dimensions are too big for US sports stadiums. The original idea was to play New York metro games at a temporary facility in the Bronx. But Bronx residents didn’t want it. Nassau County stepped up when I thought Rutgers was a more logical host for a cricket World Cup.

I don’t think Pat Hobbs recognized the massiveness of the opportunity to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors onto campus or the fact that hundreds of millions across world would watch the cricket games and be introduced to Rutgers University.

So if Cricket fields are too massive for US sports venues where do you think they could play at Rutgers? Do we have a hidden cricket field on one of the campuses???

Busch campus north of the visitors center.

Plenty of room there for a cricket field and temporary stands.

Hahaha. So tear down the existing Recreation Complex and spend money to build a temporary cricket stadium. Yes, that would go over well. I'm sure cricket fans aren't interested in a campus tour just to go to a cricket game.

After winning over the cricket world, we should target the huge Lawn Bowling fan base.
Cricket matches involving India often attract far more viewers than the Super Bowl. New York metro will host 3 India games. That is a lot of eyeballs on the local venue.
