Also notice that LV had us as +2? and we lost by 3: true genius (or....conspiracy theory # 101: see all the holding calls against RU / 2 Td's taken back / ZERO for WSU).

We certainly were missing a pass rush. Would Hamilton have made a substantial difference there? I dunno.

But where was Turay? I mean that both figuratively and literally. Seemed like he was out there for a very small % of plays(and I was looking for him) and when he was out there he provided little pressure.

Turay is another example of RU fans hyping a kid before seeing a greater body of work. The kid may turn out to be very good and be an athletic freak but right now he is a classic "work in progress". He may be hurt but until he starts having big games against the better teams on our schedule we should just tone it down a bit. Regarding Hamilton, it was interesting watching move effortlessly on the sidelines trying to pump guys up. We certainly needed him yesterday because we got zero pass rush most of the game and Rossi chose not to send extras when WSU had 4 and 5 wideouts. Hopefully he is back this week for Penn State. If not then I will be wondering what his status is for the rest of the year.

It always hurts when you're missing starters but I think zappaa has made this point and I kind of agree with it. Have we ever got a consistent pass rush from the front 4 without blitzing, I mean even in Schiano days I'd say the same. Since we didn't blitz much yesterday the pressure wasn't there and having a starter out didn't help.

There were 3-4 back breaking QB escapes that we were just a millisecond slow getting off the block and closing down on.

Yes, I think Hamilton would have made a difference.

To get pressure while rushing 4, you need true pass rushers. I thought Turay was one. I thought we get something from Lambert, Mera(didn't play ya?), Wilkins, Joseph, JPO anyone?

I really thought d-line was a team strength but the lack of pass rush from the front 4 was disturbing.

True, Falk did sneak out of a coupe but I again lay that on the pass rushers. Falk is not an elusive QB, you need to get him in the backfield.

I think Hamilton would have been huge in this game....in fact I think he would would have been the difference between a W and L. Our secondary is just bad, and we all expected that, but the lack of pass rush was unexpected. Scheming didn't help us too much either yesterday - the key to our D was getting pressure which just didn't happen. Yesterday should have been a coming out party for Turay and he looked absent for most of the game.

Does anyone know how many plays Turay was in for? Maybe it was him being ineffective, maybe it's the inability to read the jersey #'s, but I felt like he barely played.

To run a cover-2 successfully, the front four must absolutely generate pressure. Hamilton would have been a difference maker by collapsing the pocket and flushing the QB into the DEs. Further, he would have commanded a double team leaving Turay one on one. Instead, the QB could easily step up in the pocket and scamper about if no one was open. How many times did we see good coverage and good outside pressure only to watch the QB step up and scramble for 10+ yards. Absolutely disheartening.

Would not have mattered QB got rid of the ball in 2 seconds. We needed to play smash mouth football and take it to them defensively. We played to bend but not break yet by doing so we BENT to the tune of 500 yds passing and a complete inability to make a play defensively

Adding onto that if we had played aggressive smash mouth pass defense maybe he would have spent more time in the pocket and we would have hit him. That was a spring game for him and he was wearing the GREEN JERSEY

We were favored by 2, i.e., -2, not +2 - theory blown. We did miss Hamilton horribly, though, and this was one of the worst ref performances I've ever seen...

Falk is not Halliday, he is far more mobile. I don't know where you got the idea he isn't mobile.

Actually even the TV announcers were remarking that QB Falk was consistently getting 5 seconds to pass the ball. Any improvement in our pass rush would have helped.
