Of course u have to be kidding when you make such an outlandish statement. As your are questioning her knowledge of the game, She probably knows more basketball ;than he will ever learn.
Everyone just needs to settle down. Stop worrying about the rankings and tourney placement and play when my deck furniture is still sitting out in the sun.
Yes that was a bad loss, but not the end of the season. Trust and know that Stringer will turn this around.

It was also the second game of the season. [eyeroll] I still like the potential that this team has.

Need to get Ariel & Aliyah back though.

Yes, it may only be the second game, but to lose to a team that you've owned for decades with maybe two top 100 players on it versus our women with top nationally ranked players on it is shameful. Why weren't they prepared? It's one thing to lose a close one. That would be understandable. To be blown out of the building by nearly 30 points is not only despicable but incomprehensible. It's not as if we're playing with all Frosh out there! Stringer is and should be held accountable for this debacle.

Sadly, I agree with this.

Sometimes it takes an inexplicable loss like this to jar the team....we'll soon see..i hope so cause RU's still our team and disappointed or not we have to roll with it and stay tuned.

When it comes to CVS, it seems like some will use the first opportunity to start the bashing and act like RU WBB is in the dumps because she's the HC.
Wasn't that long ago ,those fools were saying Stringer should go , citing : makes to much, game passed her by , to o;ld to change, need change, won't get assistants without connections to her, up and coming HCs can get more out of players , recruiting gone down hill and many other whines/BS.

Guess I'll be seeing that [poop] popping up again , until this team shows what it's capable of doing this season.
As far as I'm concerned one terrible game doesn't mean Vivian just turned into Craig Littlepage, like some doom and gloomers are acting like.

Give it a break. Geez. Many of us care deeply about this program and have been following women's bb for thirty plus years. This was not a little blip. You can continue to stick your head in the sand, but many of us in the know (and I count myself as one) are very concerned about this loss. It's not that we lost, it's how we lost and how these kind of losses keep popping up lately. And what is concerning is Stringer's inability to adjust during the game. She is excellent at preparing for a game, but when things go south, she's a deer in headlights. But when you lose to a team you've owned forever and with so-called better recruits you should NOT be losing by 30 points.

No one including myself is saying "fire Stringer." But she is the HC and has been the HC for a long time here and she needs to be held accountable. Yeah, it's only the second game, but are you happy losing to SH by 28 points? I'm not.

> many of us in the know (and I count myself as one)

As one of the *many* folks on this board who have been following the team for > 30 years, I'm a bit tired of this implied "I know more than you do, so shut up and listen to me" attitude. We're all fans here (well, with the exception of some SHU trollers), so that's completely unnecessary. Hey, I'm mad about this loss, but there were many good things (i.e. 3-point shooting) that happened in the first game, so I'm not quite ready to throw out the baby with the bath water.

> she needs to be held accountable.
That's rather vague. Could you please be more specific about what she needs to do to meet your standard of "accountable"?

What Diana said.

I was sick to my stomach watching the disaster unfold. I'm still a fan of the team and "hope" that this was a solitary blip.

Never-the-less, I don't understand the accountability stuff. She's the head coach, of course she's accountable. Do you have some kind of "punishment" in mind? Should she have a contract that takes pay away if the team loses and more if it loses bad?

Lets give the team a chance before you throw in the towel.

Being held accountable each and every game is not a problem , but doom and gloom is .
Especially early in a season when adjustments aren't jelling as fast as they should.
Deer in headlights HC also happened to win a lot of games in her career.
CVS being held accountable is one thing, acting like she's incompetent is another and I was pointing that out.

As for being happy, you're talking to the wrong fan when asking that.
Losing by 1 or losing by a lot doesn't make me feel good, winning by 1 or more does !!

And if you're coming here claiming to know so much more than others, at least get the SHU coach's name right. It's Anthony Bozzella.

Diana, first of all, I was not implying nor was I inferring that I know more than others, even though I played the game competitively for years and coached in several leagues. I even attended Rutgers and played against Teresa Grentz's ladies who won the championship the year the first NCAA's had their first championship. I should've said, I've been following women's BB for 30 years and I know a little something about the game.

As to being more specific regarding accountable, Stringer over the years tends to blame a lot of the mistakes on her kids and not on herself. I would like her to say, This is on me. I didn't have them prepared." In addition, she also needs to realize that she has not done a very good job surrounding herself with top notch offensive minded assistant coaches. No matter how great Stringer is overall as a coach, she got where she did because of her great defense and recruiting. The recruiting is still fine, although we've fallen behind schools that were our peers like ND, Louisville, NC, Duke etc. UCONN is on another crazy level. Her offense or lack of has always been a problem. She has never really learned how to set up an offense that scores easily and often. She needs to be held accountable for that.

To Madhat: I know you're passionate about women's BB but so am I and so are others. This is a forum. We are allowed to vent. I'm not and others who frequent this board during the season are NOT trolls. I've been coming to the women's board since 2001. If Rutgers had lost this game even by 10 points, you wouldn't have heard a peep from me. Losing by 28 points and getting blown out of the building is beyond comprehensible for a Stringer team. If we're not going to score at least play decent defense, something Stringer teams are famous for. Last night, we did neither. So it may be only a second game and let's all hope looking back as the season progresses, that it's a minor blip, but last nights mauling was eye popping and very concerning.

Sometimes teams have bad games, in this case, it looks like a very very bad 3rd quarter....outsourced 25-9 and Seton Hall shot 11-24 overall on 3 point shots.

I have seen SHU play us a couple of times with Bozzella and he seems like a very good coach. Light years ahead of Phyllis Mangina who was there forever. I wonder if they put more money into the program or is he getting it done with the same resources. I know he is an SHU grad but I would give him a look when its time to replace CVS.

okay, so you weren't. [eyeroll]

I was at the game last night and like most everyone was disappointed and frustrated with the team's performance - especially the lack of effort. The team also often seemed confused - like they had never played together before. I know we lost our best rebounder and our best defender to graduation, but four out of five of our starters are upper classmen with lots of time playing together. Upon reflection, I think maybe a good part of the problem is both CVS and the team having to work with all new assistants. As an executive, I know from experience, that it is not easy trying to work with a whole new staff. If they aren't all on the same page and don't completely understand what CVS is trying to get them to do, how can they teach the team to do it? As much as many people wanted some new blood that weren't from the CVS tree, it is going to be an adjustment for all parties. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The talent is there - now what will the coaches be able to do with it.
