Basketball BREAKING -- Rutgers senior guard Paul Mulcahy plans to enter the transfer portal, he announced:

I have no insider knowledge at all. BUt to me, that message says he wants to be a point guard. If that's the case, and he was told that he won't be playing PG here any more, than he did what was best for him.
In the right offense, Paul is a great point guard with excellent court vision and basketball IQ. Oddly, I thought playing alongside Gavin and Simpson, he could have been that for us. I feel like the addition of Noah was probably the straw that broke Paul's back.
What exactly is ‘the right offense’ for him at PG ? That is the single biggest deficit in his game, even more than defense.

I am owed about 5 apologies from those here that ripped into me back in March when I said I had a hunch that Paul would transfer

You know who you are, if I don’t see acknowledgments I know you’re fugazzis
You're not the only one that guessed right.
So pat yourself on the back and don't whine about those who didn't
think Paul was a portal candidate.
I thought he would stay, but suggested he was talking to Pike and would base his decision to stay or leave based on how Pike envisioned the team without him with the new players coming in.
I didn't think he'd be portal bound, just find something outside of playing college basketball to be involved with if he left the team.

With Spencer gone I would have guessed Paul would return, so no pat on the back for me.
I'm disapointed that it took this long to decide but Paul was a great competitor so will not knock his decision, just sadden to see him go and can't say I'll root for him being successful on the court for another program, but will root for him having a successful life after his college playing days are over.

I admit it, I'm a bunker guy. You are either with us or against us. To me, it's Rutgers or die. So, yes, I struggle with the posts talking about supporting players who decided to leave the program. I don't care if UConn won the national title, Cam is getting paid, Paul wanted a change of scenery, etc., etc. Quite honestly, absent a unique educational opportunity or a family situation, when a kid choose to walk out the door he is saying that he doesn't want us anymore. That might be cool with some, but it isn't for me. So, Paul moves on as is his right and in turn I exercise my right to now view him differently. College basketball in 2023 I guess.

All the eggs in a basket for one year of Dylan and Ace…which probably won’t even happen…and if it does, we might have three walkons in the rotation with them.
Its worth the effort. With that twosome we won't be losing any more games to the likes of 2022 Gophers

Some real douchebaggery attached to Paul leaving. Its amazing.. even teh TKR boys in their hot-take video are now viewing every reaction Paul ever gave to getting bad calls as HIS problem.. not the refs. Paul gets elbowed to the head.. no call.. paul complains and HE is the douche now. Crazy stuff.

The punch and kick he did has nothing to do w refs. Wasn’t going to play much this year but leaving late is a bad look. Wish him the best

Just wondering how you viewed Miller, Reiber, and Palmquist leaving? You said you struggle supporting players who leave the program. Did you support their decision?

Most fans seem to wish "non-star" players well when they leave, but when star players transfer "they are dead to me."

It's hypocritical to me to support "non-star" players when they decide to move on, but wish star players ill will when they leave.

Whether role player, star player, or bench warmer, players will do whatever they think is best for them. As fans, if we really care about the well-being of all the players, we should support their decision regardless of their talent level.

Strange argument to equate end of bench players who are recruited over, not playing, and not in the team's future plans to super star players, starters, and captains

I'm within my rights to make a comment on a public statement, as are you and Paul. Proselytizing one's particular brand of superstition doesn't earn them a free pass.
You can relate, can't you with the way you endlessly proselytize Tesla.

But get one thing straight. Religion is not a "brand." This country was founded on religious freedom. That mockery of religion and religious people has become cool with the Hollywood crowd and one side of the political aisle is a sad reflection on society. Especially when that same side coddles lack of self responsibility and criminal behavior.
BTW, I am agnostic.

Totally wrong. Everyone equally entitled and equally judged. They are pursuing their own interests, as they should.

No he's right. I explained it after Spencer left.
Players shouldn't be able to transfer! It's ruining the sport. Rosters are constsntly in flux!!

Well.....except for Rutgers bench warmers. They should be able to transfer so we can make room for better players. (See Reiber, Miller and Palmquist).

But Rutgers good players shouldn't be able to transfer! (See Spencer and Mulcahey)

But other teams good players should be able to transfer - so we can fill in roster spots as needed!! (see Spencer and Fernandes)

It's pretty easy to understand.

College players getting paid to play for a team now, so I gonna treat em like Pros.

Understand the decision and I’d probably make the same one, but **** em.

Those players are encouraged to transfer and really can’t play at this level. There’s a difference.

That stinks. Legacy takes a big hit. You can’t say you are a rutgers guy then leave rutgers. It’s ok to take the money and leave but dont tell me you love rutgers. If you loved rutgers you would have stayed at rutgers.

Unfortunately my main memory of Paul was him trying to lose the Indiana game at Indiana fighting with Xavier Johnson.

Yeah right Andy. These guys like Katz are ridiculous and make sh*t up as they go along. The dude gushed for years how important mulchahy was to us and the “glue guy “.
Eventually there will be another glue guy. In this case, it just comes one year earlier.

When the players are here I care about their well being, although not much more than the average student at RU. They should be fed, have a good place to sleep and receive all of training and medical care they need. I also know they get great educational assistance, which is important. Beyond that, it is none of my business. I leave it to the players and their families to worry about anything else that might fall into the well-being bucket.

What signs did we miss, this Minnesota Gopher insider had this nailed weeks ago?

I'm not mad that either left. I'm all for the players doing what's best for them. I'm mad about how they left. There is a right way and a wrong way to go about it. A senior captain leaving his teammates, coaches, and the program in June after the portal is dried up is screwing them all over. No way around it. Paul is welcome to do it, but expecting everyone to be happy about it makes zero sense. Fans have every right to be upset. If he left in April I'd be supportive.

I'd also be more supportive if he said he sees himself as a PG and wants to go somewhere where he can play PG. I'd be more supportive if he just admitted he wanted more NIL and Rutgers couldn't match

The reports of him leaving bc he is so mentally weak he can't handle the tame Rutgers fanbase is an absolute joke. If true, I lost a lot of respect for him

If Paul transfers to a B1G school, he should be expecting the crowd to be allllll over him
A lot of people will lose more respect for him if he does that. He'd be choosing those schools with the knowledge that he'll be expected to help give Rutgers a few more losses during the season. Hope it's not the case after all his years here.
