C. Vivian Stringer Tweet- I'm Not Done Coaching

So we can expect a bottom of the Big Ten lineup next year.
Thanks Viv

Omg I hope there’s no way she comes back this program has already sunk enough we don’t need her burying it for more years
My guess is she wants to come back, but there might be some health issues that are holding her back from official announcing she'll be returning.
My speculation is that she's implying her return to being RU's HC by that tweet , but as of now not able to anounce it because of a health issue that might prevent her from doing the daily grind of being a HC. that might be too much for her to handle right now .

If this not announced within the week and that announcement is that she is moving to her so called administrative role than we will be lucky to field a team next year
Enough with this sht show already

“She reminded me, she said, ‘Don’t forget you won the game. Celebrate with the team. I know you got to go back and get your head down and focus on the next team, but realize that you won and that I’m so proud of you.’ So she’s doing terrific, can’t wait until she gets back,” Eatman said.

“I’m so happy I can move back over another seat so she can come back. But just thankful for her. She’s just a tremendous trailblazer for the Big Ten conference. Just a wonderful person. I always tell people she’s a better person than she is a basketball coach. So that’s her being a person when she picks up the phone to call you right after the game is over.”

The game has passed her by. Even the most diehard clinger to Stringer fan needs to admit that. At best she gets them 2-3 games over 500 if she returns with this same group of players. However it is time to make a change for the future. After next season we would be looking for her replacement anyway.

If she legally wants to protect her contract salary, she needs to say she is coming back. At minimum so her lawyer has a better negotiating position.

this diehard Stringer fan does feel she needs to retire , but not for losing her coaching shops, but because this leave of absence and her other LOA a few years ago because of fatigue will be used against her , rightfully so, in the recruiting game and her age now became a factor when thinking can CVS handle what it takes to run a winning program

It has been pointed out how the game has passed Vivian by , but looking at her W-L record the last few years disproves that.
But we can admit the style of game she plays makes it harder to win now than it did back when RU WBB was one of the best and that is a reason RU is a good program now, but not considered great
The reason is, in my opinion, getting the type of players that can defend isn't that hard to do, but getting offensive gifted players willing to play in a defensive oriented system has become a chore .
Want to use that as the reason ( good , but not as good as RU used to be) I can't object.
But she's still a real good coach and would probably field a NCAA team next year, though might not last long at the Dance.

My concern is
#1 does CVS have the stamina to do a great job again
#2 can she convince HS talent that she will be at RU as HC for the rest of her contract.
#3 will she be able to get an offense minded assistant that can impliment an offense that is complementary to Stringer's defensive style of play that will make for NCAA Bids and long run in tourney.

#1 is something unknown, so that will affect #2 and the programs that will be usng t in the recruiting game against RU.
#3 Needs to be done, but can't say it will and if (#3) a top assistant costing a good buck will be brought in to make sure offensive production is able to mesh and thrive in CVS system.

So with all that in mind and my holding Stringer accountable ( despite being away from program) I say it's time for a new HC and make sure quality help surrounds the new HC

Simply Rutgers needs to change the paradigm with Vivian Stringer as our HC in women’s BB. Do you think our AD liked it raw or maybe would have preferred a little lubed up before Stringer decided to invoke this clause in her contract. There have only been several who felt she was being totally upfront with Hobbs. Especially her supposed sighting at a casino while out. I guess you can’t or should we say have less chance to become covid 19 infected away from her team and staff.

Who can say the casino sitting was a bad as implied.
Also the talk about it ( on this board) reminded my of a song that goes "heard it from a friend"
Safety precautions might have been in place and was she gambling or having a meeting there.
( if it happened at all)
Going by limited information or rumors that might not be true isn't the way to judge what happened if you want to be fair.

As for Hobbs negotiating skills , he seems to know what he's doing and until we know the full story, I'll give him the benefit of doubt on his deal with a well respected HOF coach;
Will overlook the petty insults aimed towards Hobbs, because no one really knows what went on and those that dislike CVS will spin it with their version , while Stringer supporters will look on it as something needed to find out about before condemning anyone.
Though I'm not happy with the lack of info provided, won't try to make up my own or spread unfounded rumors to make my agenda look like it's the right one.

I won't deny there's a need for change, but will refuse to believe rumors or be influenced by petty insults when agreeing RU needs to replace C.Vivian Stringer with a quality replacement and the type of staff that makes programs winners.

Finally, the trajectory of most sports at RU is upward. WBB is the exception and that’s on the Hall of Famer. If she really was a classy lady, she’d say her goodbyes and spend time with her family where she is needed. Otherwise, she will continue to destroy her legacy and what she helped build. Hobbs needs to make it happen ASAP.

DNT: You think any of that means CVS is coming back?
Eatman knows if CVS is gone he loses his job. So of course he would be happy to move over one seat. And the longer this goes unresolved the less likely Hobbs finds a quality new coach.
Hobbs was played. Looks like a fool. Didn't have the guts to do what was right for the program.

Afraid to get rid of a HOF coach for various reasons.

Gee I never thought of CV being anything else. She just looks tired… uninspired but I’m sure Hobbs has looked at the negatives in moving on from her.

The team has been in a general decline since it’s peak of 2007-2008. The game has passed her by…she may be able to attract some good players, but there are so many better destinations right now than RU. Couple this with a depleted roster, the portal and younger and more energetic coaches out there, and RU would be better served in moving on; she has nothing to prove, anyways. After this disaster of a season, I hope Hobbs has what it takes to get this program unstuck and out of moribund status. If she comes back for 4 years after this well paid hiatus, then get ready for more of the same.
I feel like Marianne Stanley was a huge part of those teams success and she hasn’t been replaced since as an assistant coaching side

Stanley was a huge part of the 2007 Final Four run. But she was always just a temporary assistant, she was only here a few years before returning to the WNBA, where she has largely been an assistant, although she is currently a head coach. Oddly, her record in modern times as a head coach in the "W" has been mediocre.

Sometimes people are better as the right hand man/ woman instead of the top person. My knowledge of the current assistants isn’t great but definitely seems like there has been a drop off since.

I think she was only here for two years. She obviously brought something that Stringer had been missing during her short time here.
If Stringer stays I hope she brings in someone or two people like Stanley who can recruit this area again. What’s Carlene Mitchell up to these days? I know she was suing Texas Tech for wrongful termination. Is she coaching again?

last I heard Carlene was made the interim California State University, Northridge HC in 2021

You would think if a change is coming it would be announced soon. There has been plenty of time to negotiate a settlement. Getting the sense CVS must really be digging in and the administration is scared sh.. of the possible consequences of terminating her.

When it comes to this mess I expect the worst possible outcome

The longer this drags on I also agree this is not going to be a good outcome CVS is really raking the athletic department over the coals and it’s known by all the other coaches
She has helped bring this program to an all time low and right now womens basketball is the worst program in our athletic department

CVS reminds me of every aging athlete like Willie Mays in that they don’t know when it is time to hang it up and they stay way beyond their prime.
