At least Bill tried to catch the ball. Cam at 16-10, goes (scared) on his teammates. Imagine when they see that tape and think all they did to get to the Big Game.

Not a Buckner moment by any stretch - should have went for it, but that didn't lose the game - just put the final nail in the coffin.

His post game interview was terrible. He behaved like a child. He was inappropriately dressed and from the interview I watched he didn't compliment the Denver Broncos Defense or Payton Manning not once! The type of Poor sportsmanship will attract lots of criticism.

Niether QB played great, but Payton was smarter and more efficient.

Manning never complimented the panthers or his defense either. He gave the same stupid comment twice about kissing his kids and wife and the going to have some budweisers. How much do you think he made from that.
I can't stand Peyton manning. DC wade Phillips and the Broncos defense won that Super Bowl. Manning did nothing special.

dudes a sore loser but he is certainly no pussy, if you watch the replay you could see he was trying to figure out where the ball was going. I thought Simms comments were way off base.

See where the ball is going?? How about you dive for the freggin ball, then figure it out. He quit.

Yeah, the defense was simply amazing. Von Miller was a beast. This super bowl victory was similar to Elway's first super bowl. Most had the NFC opponent winning. They both did nothing special in the game and they were both at the twilight of their career. Terrell Davis pretty much carried the Broncos that year.

Agreed that Manning is not the reason the Broncos won. However, for a guy who has had the career resume he has, I'm happy that he gets to ride off into the sunset a winner. Like him or not, there is no debating that he has been an elite QB for most of his career, and he easily waltzes into the HOF, first ballot.

you must have been at a great party & missed some of the post game - or maybe CBS was in such a hurry to put Colbert on the air that it seemed like post game interviews were kept to sound bites - but - Payton was pretty clear that the Broncos defense was superb - and the repeat of the kid comment was because Jim Nance asked him on live TV to repeat the comment.

"I'm just glad I'm on the same team as our defense and glad I don't have play against them ... No question our defense led the way," Manning said.

“I certainly knew with this defense, this team would have a chance,” Manning said. “They’ve been nothing but awesome.

- and I'm not a bit Peyton fan - but don't slime him for not giving credit to his own defense when in fact, he did.

Cam is a sore winner, not surprised he is also a sore loser.

Cam was obnoxious all season which was fine because he was winning. Now that he has fallen off his pedestal, all those enemies he created this season will be looking to kick him while he is down.

Cam could've recovered that football if he was fearless but he showed fear.

Wade Phillips was the M ost V aluable P erson last night.Put that D into schemes that allowed them to use their great Talents. VON deserved the actual MVP but Wade is a Genius at his craft.

The Panthers lost this game long before that play. In fact, you could have turned your TV off after the refs blew the call on the Cotchery catch. Or when it became obvious that the Panther OL was overmatched and couldn't block anybody.

Looks like he knew exactly where the ball was to me...just afraid to get hurt with a bunch of people diving around his knees imo.

The guy has been pretty reckless with his body on scrambles, goal line plays, etc all season. I think that was more of a random moment he'll regret than a conscious decision to try not to get hurt.

I don't like Cam, but he is jumping back because the diving player is already there and is going to knock the ball back 9 times out of 10. And the ball did get knocked backward, just not to Cam.

I have never seen a random moment that a football player wouldn't dive on a fumble, especially when he started pulling back he had a very good chance of recovering it.

Very strange. I agree he didn't have time to make a conscious decision, but something made him pull out, and it wasn't because a teammate had a better chance of recovering, he had the best chance to recover.

He definitely will regret this for a long time. My prediction, he will concoct a feeble excuse that will just make him look worse.

Watch it again. He had a good chance of recovery if he dove in.

You really think he had time to process all that and make that kind of conscious decision?

See ball, dive on ball. That is what he should have done.

Just as I don't buy your explanation that he processed all that info about where the ball might bounce to, and decided to wait, I don't buy he made a conscious decision not to get hurt, but it sure looked real bad, and deserved some criticism.

His teammates won't say it, but he lost a ton of respect. He wussed out. Straight up. In the Super Bowl.

Everything Newton really is was on display yesterday. Poor Beats. That commercial couldn't look more stupid now.

Dude went after this jersey harder.

Fair point about too much information. I guess my whole issue is that I think he just reacted to the fact that it wasn't really a 50/50 situation where he might beat the other player. The other player was already diving in mid-air, so he jumped back. The motion was going that way, and so did the ball.

Its just one of those sports gifs that look funny, so it gives all the people who have never played a competitive sport at any level a chance to say "oooo....he is a a big puss." Like I said, I don't like Cam, and haven't liked him since he was a college recruit. But I hate this kind of second guessing reactions based on slow motion replays. Like you said, there is no time, and you react the way you react. I don't read too much into it, and the idea you can ready anything into it concerning heart or toughness, seems silly to me.

I would actually rather give him shit for throwing off his back foot all the time, which causes him to sail balls. If he was willing to stand and deliver like Brady (or dare I say, Eli) maybe that game has a different outcome.

He was extremely complimentary of the defense, said he was glad he didn't have to face them and that they're his teammates.

Even after the singular harmless comment you cite, he finished it by saying "Von Miller's buying." in an obvious nod to Miller and the defense.

He wasn't paid to say Budweiser. He must just really love it.

And he can say what he wants. He won. That's how this works, right?

If he wasn't paid, that is his beer of choice for winning the SB? Peyton, you need to stop making so many commercials and start drinking some real beer.

Personal choice. I'm not a beer drinker, but if I were, it would be Bud.

Whatever, the guy is the champion. He could drink Pabst and still be the man.

Yeah, this could've been one of those times where CBS could've used the 360 cam to better effect & show Cam's viewpoint. Still might've been damning, but could've been enlightening. Better than that stupid goal boundary thingy.

I don't know man he made pretty damn sure to not only say it the first time, but especially the 2nd time when he said "I'm gonna drink a lot of beers - BUDWEISER - and Von's gonna pay for them!" It was as if he forgot to say Bud, then remembered, so we'll find out if/when there is a "I'm going to Disney-World"-like commercial in a month or so.

Don't matter how big and tough you are, every man's knee can get torn up just the same. In this instance - while I agree it was more of a subconscious thing - he nonetheless did not want to risk injury to his legs. You clearly see him finally diving in when his legs are clear.

Forget about Bud, what about Manning nearly making out with Papa John seconds after the game ended?!

He must really love all that pizza money lmao.

Oh it most diffidently is his Bill Buckner moment, because when you think of Buckner, you think of that play, even though he was a borderline HOF. Cam will forever be linked to that play.

I thought it was the other way around (i.e. he mentioned Budweiser in the first instance, but not the second). Whatever. My wife thought it smacked of the traditional NASCAR interview, where all the sponsors get a mention. I joked he should've gotten Nationwide or Buick a mention, LOL.

Nope, he got the "Budweiser" in again, 2nd time around, but like I said he ALMOST forgot/missed it and threw it in last second like he was saying to himself "ahhh shit I forgot!" lol!

You ever play organized football? Go tell your coach what you just said & you'd still be running gassers. When the ball is out you dive on it. If you're not on it, you do whatever it takes to get it back out & into the hands of your nearest teammate. There is no mental calculus, it is *BALL!!!!* and you dive at it!

AB has already come out saying there was no contract and he wasn't paid to say it. The dude likes Bud. Good for him. But really, who cares. The whole league is monetized. Every segment of it. If he was, it would be out of character for him, but still.

The dude won. He can say what he wants.

Oh I don't have any issue with it, regardless, but that's just crazy. Maybe he WANTS to advertise for Bud in retirement LOL!
