Cam had his forever Bill Buckner moment.

I think this was WAY overblown by Simms. I was rooting against him, but to say that he was afraid of contact is to disregard all of the substantial contact he initiated all season. Dumb OP in my opinion.

He should have mentioned Papa John's too. Their pizza sucks but "Papa John" is a true American. It's nice to see the company he started in a closet worth so much and employ so many.

I think him finding "Papa John," and giving him a man-kiss/hug on worldwide TV before he found his family, within seconds of the final whistle, was a pretty good job by Peyton.

Manning paused in leaving the field to fist bump Papa John's owner - John Schnatter on the sideline before starting his interviews. Papa John in full red company regalia. Manning own's 30 Papa John franchises in pot-crazy Colorado. Maybe Budweiser is code for "Buds....I'm gonna have a lot of Buds tonight."

dudes a sore loser but he is certainly not (scared), if you watch the replay you could see he was trying to figure out where the ball was going. I thought Simms comments were way off base.

I don't. Coming from a Super Bowl MVP QB and one of the toughest SOB's I've ever seen play the position. His comments were right on the money.

I'm NOT a fan of Simms as broadcaster at all - despite loving him as a Giant - but thought he was 100% spot-on last night. You've GOT to go for that ball, period, no excuses IMHO.

Of course. You are taught to jump on a loose ball from day one of Pop Warner football in 3rd grade. No excuses.

I don't like Cam, but he is jumping back because the diving player is already there and is going to knock the ball back 9 times out of 10. And the ball did get knocked backward, just not to Cam.

That's bull. I've never played 1 down of organized football in my life, yet every time I'm watching my team's game, I immediately scream "GET THE BALL!!" when it's on the ground. (Ask my wife and kids. It usually scares the crap outta them.) If that reflex is ingrained in someone like me, it has to be in some one who's spent his whole life on the field. It's a reaction. You don't think about all that stuff.

Don't matter how big and tough you are, every man's knee can get torn up just the same. In this instance - while I agree it was more of a subconscious thing - he nonetheless did not want to risk injury to his legs. You clearly see him finally diving in when his legs are clear.

Cam Newton is an exercise of how not to act and how not to be a leader. He should write a book that kids should read and be told to do the exact opposite of.

What was more bizarre, Cam shying away from the fumble or Eli's expression (true colors? )after the Broncos final score?

Either way, I'm still not quite following the Bill Buckner relationship from the OP. The Bill Buckner play directly related to the Red Sox losing the game and then the World Series in the next game. Even if Cam had recovered the fumble, the Panthers are still punting the ball or going for it on 4th and impossible while down by a touchdown with 4 minutes left in the game. The Cam play will NOT be remembered as the reason the Panthers didn't win the championship or even be remembered at all in a few years like the Buckner play had been infamous for 20+ years until the Red Sox finally won a World Series again.

Wrong,I can't prove it yet, but years from now, when this game is discussed and reviewed, that play will be remembered as a key play, and how he handled it, will always be trashed. I bet if you ask his teammates, they'll give you an earful. Christ, one of his teammates played with a metal plate, and 3 screws in his arm that were just put in 10 days ago. How do you think he feels about Cams "EFFORT".

.

Archie Manning had the same expression and so would most former or current NFL QB's. They were thinking about the game situation and nothing else.

What you say at the end may be very valid, I'll give you that, but at least admit the Buckner reference was just a bad, over-dramatic comparison...if anything "the play" will be remembered infamously like the Ricky Watter's alligator arms play (Eagles receiver from back in the day). But i guarantee it will not be remembered as the reason a team lost a championship like Bill
Buckner, Mark it down!

Your some what right, but I said it will be HIS Buckner moment, maybe a little over the top as far as a pure comparison to the Buckner play. If you watched any of Cam's interviews today, "the Play" was brought up a couple of times by the press, and even by Cam. It's tied to Cam forever.
