Cam Johnson

Great stats at Pitt , 12 Pts / game, 4.5 rebounds, 44% 2 point, 41& from 3 pt and scored 24 vs UNC!!
I hope Brandon's Pitt connection somehow works magic here.

Not saying it's impossible, and I like that B Knight has a connection here, but:

I think we are setting precedent that we are willing to go toe to toe with the big boys in trying to get Blake Harris...seems to me that Coach Knight will be pushing hard for this kid as well.

I think it's a very difficult sell to get a kid from a P5 Program that is losing to transfer to another P5 school that is down.

The kid is a good player and cannot transfer to an ACC school but I bet he has a bunch of suitors.

We have huge minutes to offer and he is from Pennsylvania. Pitt only has 4 returners and they only bring back 9 total points. I think he would be at least joining a team with a good chance of being .500 or better which is probably better than what Pitt is looking at. We also have a wonderful coaching staff. It would be nice if he would give us a good look. Gettys loved his time at RU and hopefully another grad transfer will as well.

Fans know the strengths and weaknesses of the Rutgers team and so do rival coaching staffs. When its been so long since a winning season closing the deal with any recruit is a very difficult situation as previous Rutgers head coaches have found out.Pikiell must break the cycle and somehow attract 1-3 players for next season that have some shooting skills .There are plenty of potential recruits out there but nobody knows right now who will play for Rutgers next season.

Why can't he transfer to an ACC school? Grad transfers can't have restrictions because they already graduated.

You are wrong, just look a Gus Edwards who transferred from Miami to RU, he was not allowed to transfer to either Sadexcuse or Pitt, Miami imposed those restrictions & it was widely reported in the news media & Gus is a grad transfer.

He is NOT wrong. There are absolutely no restrictions on a grad transfer. The school has NO SAY AT ALL.

I believe when the grad transfer rule first started being used there were some conferences(Big 10 included) that said they couldn't transfer inside the conference. I think a Michigan transfer challenged it and the NCAA about it and won therefor making it to where a grad transfer can go anywhere. There is a stipulation about what the grad transfer studies but I'm not sure how that all works. It has to do with their major not having grad classes at the school they are leaving or something weird.

Spike albrecht. Transfer from Michigan to Purdue. Did not have to sit out. Just as you said huskers.

Harbough could have blocked Ross Douglas.

This guy should be the number 1 target. It's a no brainer. A 6'7 guard with length and long arms that can shoot the 3 pointer.

Gotta believe he is going to a NCAA tourney team so our chances are very slim.

This was not a humanitarian act. Harbaugh does what is good for Harbaugh and Michigan football. In this case it was a thinning of the herd.

But he still could have blocked him from RU. Being an in conference team and playing them every year makes it pretty common to block a transfer. That's about the only senerio where I think the coaches have a legit reason to block a transfer. But they didn't.

He could have blocked the transfer to a conference school and Ross still would have found another home.

You have succinctly summarized Rutgers ongoing dilemma in recruiting.

Ross is not a difference maker and game changer that would elevate an opponent's prospects enough to concern Harbaugh.

The fact is, he treated Ross well.
Because of the player and circumstances. If the player was a significant talent, or Rutgers was close to being a serious player in the Big Ten, Ross would not have landed at Rutgers. Bottom-line -- Ross's departure freed up a scholarship.

How does a grad transfer have two years of eligibility? If he is graduating in three, does he sit out a year and then play two or is he immediately eligible and a possible transfer again next year?

Immediately eligible. One of the three years at the previous school the player takes a redshirt year is how he would have 2 to play 2.

No idea about this player or any other players previous coach.

I wonder with a grad transfer some players would hold as a major positive a coach, like Pikiell, who isn't yelling and busting people's ba!!s all the time. At some point it has to be a grind playing basketball non stop all year around for 10 plus years.

With grad transfers it really helps to have a preexisting relationship. For the best grad transfers it also helps if you are a tournament team.

Cam Johnson might be the best available grad transfer. Hence the Arizona and Kentucky interest. Florida also interested but is bringing the kid from Rice in for a visit this week.

This was the B1G rule when Spike wanted to transfer from Michigan:

"Rule 15.01.5. Intraconference Transfer Rules. B. Post Matriculation. A student-athlete that has signed a tender from a Conference institution and has triggered transfer status per NCAA Bylaw 14.5.2 (conditions affecting transfer status), may not represent an alternate Big Ten institution in intercollegiate athletics competition until the individual has completed one (1) full academic year of residence at the alternate (i.e., certifying) Big Ten institution and shall be charged with the loss of one (1) season of eligibility in all sports."

Bottom line - he was leaving anyway, JH could have been a jerk and blocked him.

I made the initial post just to say that a HC can block a graduate transfer.
