Chance to get a look at Miami today

RU's next opponent plays this afternoon: Miami vs Florida, 4:30 on ESPN2 in the third place game of the tournament in Orlando.
They are likely going to lose and will come into our game on a 2 game losing streak. Which probably isn't a good thing but nothing we can do about it.

Saw them against Stanford. Miami is athletic and fast. They can play strong defense. While we have been playing well, Miami realistically a notch or two above us. Will be a good measuring stick of how much more we will have to do before conference play starts for have a good shot for NIT.

Don't like playing a Jim Larranga coached team with a 2 game losing streak......

We need to find out where we are at. This will be a tough game against a very good team on the road in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge. We need to play good D and rebound well and we should be able to be in the game. What do we have to lose. Miami should be favored by about 15.Play loose and hope for the best.

I like that Corey, Jonathan have a bit of a homecoming for this game. Hoping it translates well on their level of play Wednesday. If both guys on are their 'A' games then I think we can hang with the Canes. Maybe even pull the upset!

Seth Greenberg just tweeted out that Miami has no inside game. That sounds good for me and our chances especially if we crash the offensive glass and get put backs. If guards can play their guards to a standstill we have a very good chance. Weird stat but they only hit 3 threes and only took 14 which I hope continues!! Again it appears this game will be decided by who attacks the glass.

Against better competition RU will live or die by how well we shoot the ball on a given night. If you shoot poorly against a good team your defense will not be able to keep you in the game it will just delay the inevitable.

To be fair I think Florida was pretty tough underneath, which is why Miami struggled inside.

If we can do the same and Miami has trouble making threes, we have a legit shot to win.

Our defense and rebounding will be there, and we won't need to play a perfect game but we'll need to make enough 3s and free-throws while limiting turnovers.

Well, we are 6-0 against lesser opponents and granted we have shot poorly but have made up for it by being well coached and doing well in all other areas ( rebounds, defense, steals, assists, passing, bench, etc.)
I don't agree that we will "live or die" by how well we shoot. There are too many other factors involved that will dictate success. This staff has it together! I sat behind the bench last game and was very impressed after each time out how well the staff communicated to each other and then addressed the players. There was true strategy and planning. In my opinion, We will "live and die" on this staff's coaching ability until "Pikes Pics " start showing up. And then, watch out!

Who really thought we would be undefeated at this point? Nobody expects them to go through the season without a loss, so if we do lose let's hope we see the same level of doggedness and spirit that showed up the last two games.

What do we have to lose? We should be about a 15 point underdog. We must hope that Miami is missing their 3's again as they seem to attempt quite a few. We should play with the same rugged abandon that we have been playing with, have confidence and play for each other. we need to find out how good we can be with a tough test on the road. Here's hoping for the best.

We will live and die by rebounding! O-Rebounding means more shot opportunities - and can overcome bad shooting. D-Rebounding means less shot opportunities for opponents. Clearly the strength of this team is rebounding!

basketball spreads are odd as you do not get the same amount of action as you do in football. Remember spreads are based on getting even action on both sides for book making - not what Vegas actually thinks what will happen (kind of works like polling). Just a guess but it may be around five.

I think around 8-10 will get even money on both sides.

I never understood this school of thought. At the very least, it doesn't hurt RU. It's a good thing for instilling self doubt, loss of confidence, and anxiousness. Losing is upsetting and never helps you focus.

I think we will live and die by the 3. We've consistently hustled, played defense and rebounded this season. There are a lot of guys "fighting" for minutes, which is huge IMO.

Other than sanders, I like our shot selection. As long as we take quality shots, I can live with all the misses. I like the teams IQ this year.

I think we are athletic as well. We just have to make shots.

It can go either way, all depends on the mentality of a team. Can also depend on how the game goes, getting up early on a team lacking confidence can make them wilt.

We have to rebound and stay out of foul trouble.
It looks like they pretty much play just 6 guys with a few others getting a couple of minutes at times. Foul problems and fatigue may be something that they will have to worry more about.

Half time scores against teams in the 250 and up region. There is a reason they will be 15 point favorites.
Miami
48-20
41-18

RU
41-26
35-30
24-25
27-27

We are a well conditioned team that outlasts opponents in the second half of games!
More like we can throw more bodies out there than Miami. They pretty much only play 6 guys. They have to be tired by the last 5 or 6 minutes.

KYK1827, I just saw that Miami has opened as a 16 point favorite. I said 15 which is very close. I know you thought 8-10. I still hope we can win and shock the college basketball world.

this is a concern....RU generally has played well in the first 5 minutes of games but then plays poorly over the next 10 minutes and then plays well the last 5 minutes of the half....however that will not work against a team like Miami because those 10 minutes of bad play can give them a cushion and then elevating their game more than what a Hartford or Niagara might do. There will always be runs but RU's last 3 first half were subpar so getting off to a strong start on the road is imperative.
