OT: NCAA College Football Games Thread Sat 8/24

SMU is not looking like a 25 pt. favorite. So far, a lot of people have vastly overrated the ACC.

Half
Nevada 17 SMU 10
Wow, didn't even check the spread. I saw FCS Montana St was a 13.5 pt favorite to New Mexico (didn't cover) but SMU giving 25 to Nevada? Yikes. I don't see it. Close game.

Nevada still looking good up 24-13 at end of 3rd. SMU drive stopped and forced into a field goal attempt.

edit: Still 24-13 they miss the field goal.

O well Nevada just imploded. Muffed kickoff return puts ball at 1 then safety. 24-23 Nevada

SMU with another long 4th quarter drive for a TD to go up 29-24 with 1:18 to go. Conversion failed, ball popped out when the receiver landed on the ground. Hoo boy.

No
They didn’t

They were the ideal conference mate for 30 years, until the $$ discrepancy became untenable (and, after repeated attempts to work things out with Acc leadership, in an attempt to stay in the conference and get paid commensurate with their peers)

No complaining
No popping off
No controversies

Lot of winning though
Lot of championships
And lot of $$ generated for the conference

Every day is Festivus for FSU.

Ya jinxed Nevada!
That was a helluva week 0. Watched Gtech win in the last seconds, at my sisters-in-law's for dinner watched Montana St. win in the last seconds, back home for the nightcap watched SMU win in the last minute.

My take from week 0, ESPN must have paid a lot of money to overrate the ACC. FSU has no business being in the Top 20 and SMU was called a dark horse for the ACC title game. They must of came to that conclusion because the conference is going to suck.

Most days are
3 natty's and 3 heisman's in 30 years and the all-time winningest coach sans Joe Pa the enabler means you're doing something right
LOL. How about FSU's bogus "online music appreciation" class scandal under Bowden? If ya ain't cheatin, ya ain't tryin'? Right? Dad Gum It!

Damn right!
Everybody's cheating - although the ironic part is they self-reported it, and were still hit w/the suspension

Yet UNC goes Scott free with fake classes and bogus degrees
Gotta love the corrupt NCAA!!!

Again, nobody claimed they were too good for anything

It's the mere (and I use that term loosely) fact of not wanting to fall 40-50 million behind your peers
B/C, if that happens, all the hard work over the last 50 years goes down the drain

Gone are the days of competiting for titles, and not just in football
Olympic sports will also go down the shitter

It's not that complicated - it's all about dollars and cents $$$
Or, in the ACC's case, a distinct lack thereof

They were 11-3 last year- in The American Athletic Conference. That was the buzz.
Lost to Oklahoma and TCU. But the big signal that 11-3 was not much to get excited about was losing to BC 24-13 in their bowl game.
Maybe people got confused because they are the Mustangs.

FSU lost but with a 12 team playoff system in place, don't count them out just yet.
A change at QB might be needed if DJU doesn't show he can get the job done
Going to true freshman Luke Kromenhoek might be the answer

Loved seeing FCS Montana State take New Mexico to he woodshed in the fourth quarter .
Probably made Bronco yearn for his BYU days

SMU made the most of it's fourth quarter , but all in all wasn't that impressive in it's win over Nevada

It’s true in regard to the 12 team playoff, but unless they do a complete 180 in regard to the defense, as well as the alleged vaunted running game and reported dominance of both lines, we’re looking at a fairly pedestrian season, at least by FSU standards, down in Tallahassee

If we have to pull DJ in favor of Luke or Brock, that will not be a good sign

Nobody claimed they were too good for anything, what happened was the ACC did not hold up there end of the bargain - hence, if Florida State continues to stay in the ACC, they’d be $40-$50 million below their peers, on a yearly basis

To any team that hopes to compete for championships, now and in the future, that is simply unacceptable
The ACC is their peers.

The ACC is their peers.
Their peers are ones who are aligned academically, and, specifically pursuant to this conversation, athletically

In the ACC, that’d be Clemson & UNC
Not wake
Not Cuse
Nor bc
Nor Duke

The other schools I have little to no issue with - but candidly, absent of Miami, none have a shot of winning anything big in any of our lifetimes (but with NIL, nothing is completely off the table

Hell, the majority of the league has zero shot, ever, of winning anything significant

Moreover, the above 4 football dwarfs have a combined 17 fans between them, terrible ratings and god awful stadiums

Yet we’re sharing revenue with those midgets
Those 4 (and most of the league) are not, nor will ever be, considered “peers”

Thank you for another example of the arrogance and entitlement mentality of many in the FSU fanbase. If you ever did join the B1G, how long before you are saying FSU deserves bigger payouts than Northwestern, Rutgers, Maryland, Purdue, Indiana, Illinois, UCLA, and Minnesota because those schools are not national championship contenders?

Good discussion at 20:30 on whether B1G should want/take FSU at 20:30:

It’s the truth, Jack

What in God’s name have any of those schools done, except to suck of daddy’s tit and cash paychecks on our backs, all while costing us millions of dollars?

We were ideal conference mates for 30 years, continually asking the league to improve and adjust while making them millions of dollars, winning countless championships and carrying that sorry ass sack of shit league to prominence for the majority of our time there

End of the day, we got tired of getting jerked off - plain and simple

Unlike the ACC, the B1G knows what they’re doing. Your arguement holds no water bc again, look at our track record prior to the last 12-18 months

Do some research before spouting off - less trumpet, more ACC history would be a good thing for you
