Chol

He played in 4 games, Columbia, Sacred Heart, Rider, CCSU(game 6)

I think it is slightly different in basketball for a redshirt, think they can play upto the first 25% of the season non injury redshirt or in a season ending injury playing less than 25% of the overall games throughout a season, 32-40 overall games(8,9,10). Mass Lowell, Temple, Miami, and Indiana, there was no opportunities to get him in, the rest of the season will probably be shutdown, he reclassified back into 2022 from 2023. Reiber and Palm would see time before Chol if anyone gets nicked in the frontcourt for a few games. Its the right call to not burn a year with our depth.

I have watched him practice but yesterday he was sitting on the sidelines for half of the warm ups. I have a feeling he is going to redshirt. At the regular practices he really can hit the threes from both corners. I think he has a good future with us if he remains at RU for the next 4 years.

He needs to redshirt in the worst way. He’s got a ton of potential but he is a developmental project and despite his size he is not ready for B1G play. Hopefully this is why we see him in street clothes these last two games.

You can't play a few games and then redshirt in basketball unless there's an injury. I assume if he's not dressing then this is what's going on.

The rule was changed last year to allow a player to play in 4 games and still redshirt. Chol has played in 4 games and that is why he is not playing. Makes a lot of sense with our current top 8-9. He is not needed this year, but will be starting next year. He can practice and travel, just not play.

That is the football rule, not basketball.

Was he on the bench dressed in uniform available to play against Bucknell?
Plans to redshirt him have nothing to do with availability and taking warmups.

What are the benefits of following redshirt rules in college basketball?

In order to be eligible for a redshirt season, a player must meet one of the following criteria:
-The player competes in less than 30% of his team’s games.
-The player’s school declares him ineligible for the remainder of the season due to injury.
-The player transfers to another school.

There are several benefits to following redshirt rules in College Basketball First, it allows a player to have an extra year of eligibility. This means that a player can compete for four years instead of the usual three. Second, it allows a player to develop his skills and physically mature without having to worry about losing playing time. Third, it gives a player an extra year to complete his degree. Finally, it gives a player an opportunity to increase his value for the NBA Draft

This is what I thought it was for both football or basketball.

Football(rounding up/down)
12 games/3.6
13 games/3.9
14 games/4.2
15 games/4.5

27games/8.1
31games/9.3
34games/10.2
37games/11.1
40games/12

one of the mods, either here or there, thought he was the
biggest surprise pre-season....our hidden weapon.

maybe he still can be that but needs this year to figure things out

This article supports tht a player can play in the 4 games and redshirt/

That is not a real source come on.

Here's one from a reputable reporter in Dana O'Neil from a reputable outlet meaning it's at least been looked at by an editor. This is from January 2022 and I can find no source the rule has changed since. The A10 was pushing to allow a partial year redshirt but nothing ever passed.

As COVID-19 continues to affect player availability and subsequently leads to game cancellations, the Atlantic 10, eyeing up a season filled with disruptions, has requested a blanket waiver to adjust the redshirting rules, commissioner Bernadette McGlade told The Athletic. Currently, NCAA rules stipulate that if a basketball player appears in a single game, he or she can no longer redshirt.

I hope he redshirts. High end potential and could still be in HS
His offensive potential is what we need at multiple positions to get to the next level

He is so far from being ready defensively. He might figure it out being in the program more than one year but I have serious doubts.
He also reclassified and arrived much later than the other freshman closer to the season. Way too soon to make a judgement. Chol has the height and length to be a very good defender. He was the worst defender on the court for us this season though. If he buys in, he will get there

Defending in basketball at this level requires an incredible commitment and ability to learn…especially playing for Pike.
The fitness level and energy alone is out of this world

Never to soon to make judgement. Doesn’t mean the judgement has to be right!!!
