Per Zags.

Don't know much about him, but one hell of a win-loss record.

Check out @AdamZagoria's Tweet:

This is foolish. He' ll be in a wheelchair before be geta this turned around

Great. A 57 year old coach who spent 15 years coaching high school and then college juggernauts Suffolk CC and CW Post before hitting the big time by stockpiling a MAAC program with transfers. This will really excite the donors.

We sure know how to lower the bar..

A pick from the Kevin Willard mold. Interesting.
Except Willard spent time working for the Celtics and 7 years as an assistant at a big time program with Pitino at Louisville, not to mention being on the roster at Pitt. Cluees has none of that and, frankly, I don't think much of Willard in the first place since it took hiring a player's coach to save his job. On the other hand, Cluees has won a helluva more than Willard did at Iona.

With 65 of those losses at the d1 level
He's 145-65 overall at Iona and 89-25 in conference. He's won where ever he's coached. I like him. 2 issues for me are can he get a higher quality player here that will fit his style and get into RU and how will it work on this level. I wish he had gotten some wins in the tourney, specifically the NIT, to see that he could do it against the better teams. He was always the lower seed though in the tournaments.

Hobbs is better than this. Cluess is the worst option mentioned except for Williams. If he does wind up with the job he shouldn't get any more than he's getting at Iona. He's not exactly a hot coach. He's probably surprised he's being considered.

He is older and relies and cast offs and academic question marks who couldn't cut it at higher level schools. Oh and people hated EJ's lack of defense? Just wait.

You got that right. It's like a pickup game and The suspensions will bring us some continuity with our current team. We can supplement with Jucos and transfers..if they qualify.

No one is ever happy unless they hire the coach they want. People didn't want Hurley because he never brought a team to the ncaa tournament. Now that we are looking at a coach who has made it to the big dance three out of the past 5 years and the other two years he still won the MAAC, people are making new excuses. Unreal. I trust Hobbs will hire a great coach to right the ship. Cluess is a very good coach and would be a great option.

No doubt about it with the lack of defense. That's the style, I said that in the other thread. You have to realize that going in with eyes wide open. So that's a given. The type and quality of player is something that is a question mark but can he adapt to recruiting differently here as opposed to Iona? Don't know.

Overall I don't see him as any riskier than most of the other realistic options and I've said they all have their question marks. It's about personal preference then. I like Dooley slightly better but I'm okay with Cluess. There are no guarantees any one of them could flop or succeed.

So we know we won't play D and if he can recruit at a major level is a big question. So what exactly are the pros?

Is it too late to bring Eddie back. This search is pathetic. However, it is going exactly the way I predicted so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

If true this is a HUGE mistake.

1) RU needs a younger hungry riser to recruit, recruit and recruit some more
2) this guy has NEVER coached at a high major level even as a grad assistant or ball boy
3) he doesn't recruit now; his success is built on transfers. That wont cut it at RU.

Id prefer just about anyone on the list - Pikiell, Masiello, Dooley, or Lonergan (duh). I really, really hope this is not the case; if it is see you again in 3 years when we do this again; maybe by then Boyle will have a college job and we can hire him.

That's not true. I would have been happy with Hurley, Lonergan, Masiello, Dooley, and even Pikiell or Boyle over this.

His record against similar level competition and making the post season including multiple NCAAs and NITs during his time at Iona and winning at every level he's coached at. So who's to say if he steps he won't do the same. He stepped up levels in the past and kept winning, how can you say he won't again. I'm not saying he will but I can't say he won't. Iowa State plays a quick fast pace game too and that's how Hoiberg got them going, so who says it cant' work here. Maybe it will maybe it won't.

Like I said I don't see him as any bigger a risk than any of the other realistic options. They all have question marks.

Everytime there is a new coach under consideration, people on this board complain about them. No one but Hobbs truly knows who is in the lead for the job. Whoever is picked we need to support them.

Has Cluess been hired, or is just another panic attack thread fueled by media speculation?
Another panic attack fueled by media speculation. Every time someone from media tweets out their latest guess people start calling it a shit show or Hobbs doesn't have a clue. I've said it before, the media was dead on with their RU is hiring Al Golden for football.

And thank God for that.
