Ryan Dunleavy just tweeted about it. Basketball court at the barn to be named for Jimmy V.

I haven't ever seen this mentioned anywhere before but I could imagine the floor having Vivian Stringer's name on it someday. National Basketball Hall of Famer, trips to Final and Final Four with Rutgers. Coached on floor for 20 years and counting. Everyone loves Jimmy V and not going be a negatoid on day they are honoring the 1967 team but he was a player and coach on campus for a grand total of 5 years.

It is kind of a head scratcher in that naming the Barn floor will inevitably lead people to question why not the RAC. Turns it into a negative. Not that I think naming the RAC floor after him would have been appropriate but they basically named the pick up basketball floor after him.

I was thinking the same thing...smh

There are no achievements in Rutgers Basketball (men or Women) that deserve the RAC floor at this point. Perhaps one day after I am turned to dust, but certainly not now.

Its rather simple, actually. It's the Barn where Jimmy played and made his mark on Rutgers basketball. After practices the Barn was opened up to us scrubs to play in at night, and Jimmy would come out from the lockers and play horse with us and kid around. He was the glue on the team that went to the NIT in an era when the NCAA didn't include 64 teams and playing in the NIT at the old MSG was special.

It would have made more sense to name the court after Mike Rice since there is more dodge ball played on there than basketball.

We should have asked the 1967 players honored at half time to play SHU today. Even st 70 years old they would have been better than our current team.

This. As a member of the Class of 1967, I think this is more appropriate.
