COPPER WNBA CHAMPION

Finals MVP too
Does the outstanding player award really cover the entire post-season? If so, then Kah for sure. Over the four games of the finals, Parker might have been a bit more consistent with a fuller stat sheet. For highlights and demoralising a team, go with Copper the Hopper.

This is so awesome - now 2 RU alums as WNBA finals MVP (Cappie and Kah) .

Imagine that we had three WNBA all-stars in Kah, Laney and Wheeler on the same roster … yet never past the 2nd round in NCAAs.

The three of them only played one year together, when Wheeler was a senior, Laney a soph, and Copper a freshman (that was the season Wheeler played right after her mother passed away).

While Laney and Copper had excellent RU careers, Wheeler's was mediocre at best. The fact that she has transformed herself into a legitimate WNBA starter is one of the most surprising and inspiring stories in the WNBA, imo.

Wonderful culmination to an exciting finals!! Thoroughly enjoyed the entire playoffs from the first games to the last. Great accomplishment for Kahleah. She was outstanding for the Sky and caused to opposing teams to spend a lot of energy just game planning to slow her down.

All that said, I don't mean to be a downer, but it must be addressed. There's no bigger fan of Kahleah and RUWBB than myself. As a fan, I was extremely disappointed that Kah dropped that "F bomb" while accepting the MVP award. I understand the emotion that she felt, but I just thought that really deflated and tarnished a grand moment. It was totally inappropriate and uncharacteristic of the culture that she comes out of.

Haven't heard anyone else talk about it, but I'm hoping that her family, CVS, Betnijah, Candace P, Coach Wade, etc. all get on her about doing that. It also provides a teachable moment for CVS to use with her current group of players and future groups as well. Unfortunately, these younger generations have grown up in a time that cursing and inappropriate language is being normalized.

Also, it would have been a nice gesture if she had pulled Candace up there with her to accept that award because she did not have her best game, by a long shot, on Sunday. Candace was clearly the glue and calming force for the Sky. MVP could easily have gone to her.

Go Kah!! Go RU!!

Yeah, when you look back to see how that could have happened, you get reminded that those years from 2010-2014 were all winnings seasons with 3 out of the four being 20+ win seasons. In the Big East, and American Conf. with UConn, new emergent, Louisville, ND, Syr, a decent St Johns, etc. We then came into the Big Ten at the end of this time period and continued with 20+ win seasons with the exception of the really down year of 2016-17.

No shame in losing to a 29-5 Texas A&M (2nd rd Louisiana region) , Gonzaga (1st rd Spokane reg), UConn (2nd rd Storrs Reg). We got snubbed from the NCAAs the year we had probably our strongest team of that period. We won the NIT tourney that year, finishing with a record of 28-9. I think we could have made a deep run with that team (provided we didn't get sent to the Storrs region to start),

A major factor in our inability to beat the better teams was our lack of a dominant post. I take my hat off to Monique Oliver, who held her own, at 6'2". She needed more help when going against the 6'4" and 6'5"s that the top teams brought. Racheal Hollivey gave the NIT champ team a better chance against some of the top teams. They never got the opportunity to see, due to not being invited to the dance. Too bad she had the problems with her vision that slowed her development. She definately had WNBA size and athleticism.

I fully understand that use of curse words bothers some.

That said - um, CVS certainly has cursed. Has been caught on TV a few times, actually heard it in person at an away game. I think most of the coaches in WBB can be found to say it at times (Dawn Staley is apparently known for it). It isn't some kind of mortal sin.

Yes, it is a bit normalized in culture today. When I was in an environment where it wasn't out of place, I cursed. When I moved to a position where it would have been judged inappropriate I didn't. I would assume most of the folks in sports that curse know the difference.

My point is ...time and place......Every coach that I've had or have been around curses. And yes, I have and still do occasionally. Usually emotion-driven, BUT, as a mature adult who does everything I can to be in control of my emotions and my actions, I know when it is not appropriate to talk any kind of way. You always consider your audience.

I have followed CVS since arriving here at RU. I have never heard that kind of language come out of her mouth in a nationally televised interview, or any interview for that matter. Being overheard on the sideline while in coaching mode is a totally different thing. And it should be an effort to control it there too. We know all of the coaches in the Big Ten have probably used curse words, including the one Kahleah used. I think it is safe to say that all of us on this forum believe it would not be appropriate for them to go to the Big Ten Media Day and drop F-bombs at the podium. Nor would it be for those student-athletes that attended (Osh, Lasha). At least, I hope we all agree on that.

Time and place. That's all I'm saying.

Sunday would lead most to believe that Kahleah didn't know the difference.

I was scrolling the top headlines on my phone earlier this evening and there it was....WNBA player K. Copper drops F-bomb on national television. They should have been talking about her performance on the court but instead, the curse word got the headline.

Holly did a great job of softening it with her quick "KFC" reference. lol

Found an old game that, although we didn't pull it out, it shows some of what has been discussed regarding this post. This team was just missing a dominant post player that could give some substantial offensive production as well as be a defensive presence. Take a look if you get a chance. I think this is part of the proof of what we've known all along about Betnijah's all-around game. For us, having watched her do these things for four years, we know she didn't just recently become legit out of nowhere..

My above post was a reply to this post.

I think most people have been talking about her performance; the Chicago crowd obviously loves her and they were all having a moment together. Would not be surprised to see her earn a max contract in free agency.

I agree with everything that you said above. She has definitely earned a max contract and I, along with the Chicago crowd love her, as I do all of our current and former players. And the talk has been about her performance for the most part.

I know I'm not alone on here when it comes to feeling like these young ladies are our own. You want for them the way you want for your own children. It's like a teacher refers to his/her students, my kids.

Don't get me wrong about pointing out the inappropriate language. It's not a huge issue. I'm not calling for suspension or a fine or anything crazy. I'm not calling for anything, period. I just look at her as if she were my family( daughter or niece), I would get on her about that choice of word in that moment. It's okay for her to feel like that, but she can express that using words that don't have to be bleeped out. If we don't hold our youngsters to a certain standard of decorum, then we as elders are failing them. If you were to talk to her today, I'm sure she would agree with my point of view on this issue and she would know that I am clearly in her corner and wanting nothing but the best for her.

Did anybody else enjoy watching that RU-UNC game as much as I did?! It's been crickets on that.

Seeing Betnijah, Kahleah, and Tyler playing at such high levels?! Seeing all the others! Watching that game is getting me more pumped for the upcoming season. I hoping we can come out on the right side of those kind of hard-fought battles.

Wheeler lost her mother and had a very difficult time. Did the three of them coincide for more than one season?
