I think it is time for our posters who come on here regularly or those that come on here only after bad games , to start supporting our top players and stop the bashing and the idiot comments that we would be better off without them . Corey deserves tremendous props not just yesterday but throughout the year. Corey is asked to do everything for Coach, play defense, distribute, score, dribble and penetrate and rebound , knowing that the other team is trying almost exclusively to take his game away. Corey ‘s shooting is inconsistent but he doesn’t deserve the vicious posts we see after a bad game as compared to excuse me,, that is what I expect from him every game post , after a great outing. Corey plays defense almost always and defends the best guards on the other team. He doesn’t have 1 big guy that can catch a lob or effectively do a pick and roll and actually catch the ball and lay it in. Corey is our All Big Ten talent and thank the lord he is on our team. He almost willed us to victory yesterday, like he did against Seton Hall, and almost against Michigan State on the road. . Do you think if he had2 or 3 of Purdue players who could shoot on our team that Corey would not lead us to 20 wins? Corey is a stud maybe not an NBA player but he is our stud and a great college player that deserves more appreciation from our fan base.
Grit and determination. After Illinois , with the injuries mounting, the vultures were circulating, and once again this resilient hodgepodge of players except 1, who are not All Big Ten first, second, third team or honorable mention selections, no names got off the mat and gave a tremendous effort to the energized RAC crowd. They got back to rebounding with Deshawn and Shaquille crashing the offensive boards, played tight defense with just a few lapses, and showed how tough they are both physically and mentally . It is just a damn shame they didn’t get the victory. Florida State, both Michigan State games, Nebraska and now Purdue, 5 games that we played toe to toe with the top teams in the country and if we get one more three to drop or God forbid we get a favorably whistle for 1 or 2 critical calls and maybe we are 5-0 against those teams. That is how close Coach is to getting us over the top. Just 1-2 better shooters and the development of a low post big man and those games are won . Until Coach gets that in recruiting or development, we should be damn proud of the effort our guys give every night with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions. It is a tribute to these players and this coaching staff.
Refs: Is there another team in the country that gets hosed on their home court more that Rutgers? Clearly the answer is no. Let’s call it like I see it. We had a ref yesterday, and his name is Courtney Greene, who is absolutely atrocious . He personally cost us the Nebraska game with 10 straight calls against us and was a nightmare yesterday along with that Earl Walton , who you guys might remember as one of the refs from the St. John’s game that screwed us . It started early with the bullshit call against Issa on the three point shot that was already released by BJ Thompson and he kicked his feet and fell down and got the late whistle. The crew missed 2-3 walks by Haas, including the one before the half. He personally was standing right next to Bullock when he was hit on his three and got knocked down and swallowed his whistle. Corey also got hacked on a three with no whistle. In the second half , his 3 calls on Issa’ 5th foul which was clearly not a charge, calling a foul away from the ball when Purdue was scrambling with 2 on the shot clock that had nothing to do with the play, then the reversal on Geo’s shot where Sa got the rebound and because they reset the clock he passed it back out. He gave us a call as Corey blew past Dakota Mathias and he claimed Corey was hit but the replay showed he was never touched another terrible incorrect call. This ref, Courtney Green , affects the game. These are the 5-10 calls that are blatantly wrong and impact a game but is worse in a close game. Coach and Hobbs have to start complaining to Delaney that this ref is not welcome here. It is hard enough winning in this league but when it is 6 to 5 , 7 to 5, or 8 to 5, it is a travesty.
