Dan Hurley says his ‘preference’ was to go to Rutgers, felt like a ‘consolation prize’ at Seton Hall

He would never have succeeded here with his persona and antics. Local media and university administration would have run him out of here on a rail regardless of his recruiting or on court performance.

I’m fine with tolerating his aloofness, but the idiots in the state can’t.

At least he didn't have to be dragged on a recruiting trip and cry all the way down there to reject us.

If Mike Rice had those results, he’d still be here. Or at least last a while longer if he got us there.
This was more about him PLAYING at Rutgers rather than SHU
That’s what I thought it was about too.

What click bait BS here. The documentary politi references is 10 years old . Hatchet job. This is crap

Truth is Danny was an alright basketball player and would not have started over players that were at RU at the time and stopped playing at SH after his sophomore year I believe. He played with other great players (Rhoderick Rhodes being one of them) at St Anthony’s and garnered a lot of attention. Bobby was a much better player.

That being said, Danny is a tremendous basketball coach and would kill it at RU this day and age.

GO RU

Danny Hurley (and dad Bob senior) ….were very concerned that Bob Wenzel wasnt going to be the head coach at Rutgers and would move on to a better job (ironically , Bob interviews for the South Carolina job the sunmer after dan Hurley committed to the hall, and turned it down)

We needed a point guard after Earl Duncan …he woukd have slid into the stsrting spot

I believe because we didn’t get Dan Hurley, we then ended up with Damon Santiago at the point guard spot

You are mistaken, he stepped away for a year, but came back and played pretty well his junior and senior seasons, averaging roughly 14 points a game, though the team was mediocre at best.

Wenzel turned down the NC sfate jon to stay st RU

Yes! Thank you...I have this on video tape somewhere alas with no working vcr anymore

Wait where is the first half?

Here it is... crowds at the RAC are good now, but can't compare to back in the day.

TIDBIT: I covered this game when I was a sportswriter at The Daily Journal in Elizabeth. Go to the 5:29 mark. I'm the second guy from the right (under the "g" in Rutgers).

I have always maintained that the last defensive stand in this RU-Hall game (almost got away with the hold) AND the three turnover in a row the week before against UNLV were the loudest the RAC has ever been

Hard to argue. If they were not the loudest, they were tied for the loudest. I doubt there were moments when it was louder (including the A-10 final).
