Danny Hurley's the Real Deal

And he can recruit numerous really good 5's, but we can't recruit any other 5 because we have Cliff...RUFKM

You’re the worst.

Hurley is doing well. Fine post. Then you start shitting on our own.

You’re the absolute worst! Be a better person.
Hurley's a good one maybe will turn out great.
UConn has a winning history and that helps recruiting top players
986–2012[7]Jim Calhoun26625–243.720
2012–2018Kevin Ollie6127–79.617
2018–presentDan Hurley585–47.644
after Ollie's
season many were putting HOF credentials on him,
that didn't age well.
So I'll wait and see if Danny boy keeps it up, while knowing Pike had and still has a tough road to hoe when tryingto get top talent to come because Rutgers isn't a traditional basketball power and after the Tom Young years never shown enough to even be considered a program that top talent looked at as a winner.
Pike is changing that, but having a hard time getting talent to think of Rutgers MBB as a top program like they have ( for many years) before Dan the man ( to some) even signed on with the Huskies

And then he cries like a baby to Richie when he gets beat up in the comments.

He’s still trying to pretend that he was an innocent victim in all the Pike Sucks nonsense last year…lol.

Definitely not the best conference in the middle and bottom , but the big east conference has proven it’s as strong as the top power conferences. Quite a feat. I’ve been suprised how Crieghton, Butler and to some degree suprised about Marquette- those schools have sustained success and have really boosted a conference which I thought would be Villanova, Georgetown and the 10 dwarves

His father was a Hall of Fame high school coach. His brother was a star player at Duke that won a national championship.Danny knows what it takes to win at the highest level.A UConn juggernaut similar to when Calhoun was head coach could happen because of coaching and talent.

Agreed! Where are the people that said we would lose Pike to UCONN if we did not give him these extensions? Anyone taking Pike over Hurley? Lol
If Hurley wanted to be at RU, he would already be here. I've moved on, and believe in Pike. I think Pike could be our long term answer. I'll take a guy that would walk the turnpike for our job over someone that was not all in.

Kudos to Danny. An excellent coach with a legendary HS Coach father. Best of luck to him but Coach Pike is all in on RU and I would not trade for any other coach.

Coach Pike has changed the narrative at RU and wants to be at RU when others were shunning this great opportunity.

GO RU

He just got a $200k bonus and auto 2-year extension by going to the FF.

Always that he was a good, but not great coach, but proving me wrong this year. Has resources he needs to have a top 10-20 team. Less travel in BE as well.

UConn is a very well financed basketball program with the majority of their resources available for hoops. For over35 years their well known booster has supported that program to help put it where it is. Uconn punted on football to become a perennial hoops major. With the advent of NIL what was illegal Is now ok so they will continue to excel unless the well runs dry. Calhoun‘s relationship with this booster is very different than Brennans relationship with PJ as these two guys are still good friends socially. RU72 also knows what I am saying. This is not meant to take away from Dans accomplishment but you need horses to pull or drive the bus. The UConn center and power forward are an exceptional combination and maybe the best inside punch in college hoops.

Hurley shunned this opportunity.

I wonder if we should have followed this logic and become a basketball school . It’s not all about getting conference tv money . If you stink in football, you stink no matter what conference you’re in

Sanogo is physically a tank and excellent player too.

He and Cliff went head to head in high school.

Danny has gotten the most out of this team

In the scope of things, basketball excellence is a pimple compared to the wart of football mediocre results within the world of school/conference revenue.

If anything basketball has more mouths to feed from a smaller pot.

GO RU

Are we just going to ignore that UConn was an elite blue blood program before Hurley stepped on campus? I’m not saying he hasn’t done a great job this year — clearly he has — but he also took over a program only a few years removed from a national title. It’s also taken him 5 years to get here and he hadn’t won an NCAA game there before this year losing twice as the higher rated team.

This team clearly has the secret sauce, but this narrative that he’s now elite is wacky. He’s no more elite than Dusty May considering they now have the same number of final four appearances.

Bottom line - Hurley wanted no part of RU

I don’t doubt he would have succeeded here and likely more so and more quickly than pike

With that said - he comes across as a HUGE DOUCHE

I must have missed something. I didn't read SantaFe's post as a slap at anyone aside from maybe the guys who say other good 5s won't come here because they don't want to play behind Cliff.

Why didn't Ollie end up in college hoops? I didn't really follow his case. Seems he didn't do any thing illegal that's not widel accepted toslday.

Wrong. He was willing to take the job if we went 7 years. Hobbs wasnt willing to and instead hired pike. The rest is history as they say

This has been re-hashed here a bunch.

AT THE TIME he was asking for far more than his resume AT THE TIME warranted

That signaled to me, and many others on here, that he was only gonna come here if RU gave him waaaay above the market for his services AT THE TIME = he really wasn’t interested/ was only interested if RU backed up the Brinks truck

It wasn’t I did a whole summary of the coaching landscape in another thread. We ended up fine at least.
