Decreased Board Activity

Seems to me there is alot less board activity and less interest in this program and college football in general. It's vexing because when we were in the Big East this board was clearly more active with much deeper team, player and college football analysis.

Anyone else notice the deflated, boring bass line of, not necessarily Rutgers, but college football overall? It's starting to remind me of when I realized pro ball sucks. Not sure if it's because college is now as overhyped as the NFL, the crappy rules regarding hitting or the general shit type of personalities who play this sport and would home invade and terrorize your family in a heart beat.. Anyone else losing interest in this sport?

The free board is always horribly slow and off topic during the offseason. This offseason has actually been better than normal because of the coaching change and the amazing recruiting.

Hang in there. I miss football too.

Uhhhhh, what?

It's June, not exactly football season.

Did someone break into your house recently? Was it a football player?

Amazing recruiting, lets not get nuts.

I've started to lose interest in this board, Rutgers football and college football tbh.
I've come to the realization that there are many more important and interesting things to focus my time and energy on.

Amazing recruiting, lets not get nuts.

In terms of the 2017 class, Rivals has RU's 11 commits currently ranked 22nd, 247sports has Rutgers 28th, and Scout presently has RU ranked 30th.

Those same sites have Syracuse, (with a current total of 3 commits), ranked 70th, 77th, and 73rd, respectively, so right now recruits aren't exactly flocking in droves to play their college ball in central NY. -And while you might think it's over the top to call the verbals "amazing" the new Rutgers coaches have gotten in the short time they've been here, they've certainly shown they aren't too shabby when it comes to recruiting, either.

OP, There is just not a lot going on right now. I couldn't be more interested in RU and college football. Can't wait for the season.

This is, IMHO, a very good thing! Sports are for enjoyment but life is the true sport that we all share a place on the roster. Too many spend way too much time in the fantasy world.

Team has been very bad since joining big ten with many blowout losses. While ash has things on right path it's still a multi year turnaround. Team likely isn't good this year either. As a result, interest in general is down.
When ash gets us back competing there will be a pickup in activity here.

You must not be a regular to this board. Every board in the country becomes quiet between May and Aug 15.

for tthe first time in forever we have a clean slate at Rutgers with no controversies or agendas, we have new coaches , new AD.......yes doesnt make for good message board fodder

Wonder what the first couple of game threads are going to look like. Will the coaches be called out for bad play calling, or will every single thing that goes wrong be someone else's fault?

1st year with a new stud coach = will every single thing that goes wrong be someone else's fault

I have not seen a noticeable difference between the last few years and this year. Well, one, in that a couple of years ago we got a bunch of commits around this time which fueled a bit more participation. However, given that it's the offseason, the middle of June, nothing is on the horizon for the next few weeks, it's not surprising that actual football talk is almost non-existent. And that OT threads dominate the board. It's always been this way. No doubt as we get close to the start of Summer Camp, the football talk will rev back up and become the focus of the board once more.

And the board is better for it.

Joking. I usually enjoy your wiseass sense of humor.

It's because every single thread turns into a shouting match between posters or it goes way off topic. I want to be here to talk about Rutgers football. I'm sick of the OT posts. There are also many older established posters on here who think they know everything and gang up on newer posters with different ideas or thoughts. It gets annoying.

There are also many posts that add no substance to the conversation which are only posted to get likes. Exhibit A:

I'm not trying to single you out here but wtf is this supposed to be? I'm all for funny topics, but when every single thread turns into posts like these just to get likes, it really subtracts from this board.

Idk maybe I should just do the pay board.

I disagree a little here

In terms of this board: June to End of July this board has a ton of OT threads. This is pretty standard. By first two weeks in Aug. this board starts to talk X's and O's. This year should be different vs. the GS/KF era as Chris Ash closes many practices to the media. Remember spring practice the reports were pretty thin as to what is happening. I would assume summer practice will be the same and expect threads to mimic this.

In terms of general interest:

I would argue that it probably peaked and flat lined over the past 3 to 4 years. However look at the business side of things which gives you a leading indicator as to what is going on.

Season tickets are on the upswing 22,040 in 2013 to 31,016 in 2014 (around the same for 2015). That leaves about 6K tickets left over after students. I would assume most games will be fairly full or sold out. Yes, this is due to going to the B1G but that is nice increase given that attendance overall is falling for most schools.

Also, look at our TV ratings for our games vs. PSU. They are the highest rated game in the NJ/PA media market. Even the Mich St. game last year had big ratings (I am not sure if anyone noticed but the PSU game is now the second to last in the season).

Media coverage - NJ.com has 3 people full time covering RU football and if you count Politi that is 4. Sarg, Duggan, and T Hunt who covers all recruiting in NJ with a bias towards RU. Up until 2011 nj.com had 2 part timers. The bottom line is RU content is big business for APP and Star Ledger.

Old Big East vs. Big Ten - you really can compare. In the Old Big East the fan base viewed every game as winnable. In the Big Ten (and the 2016) season I would assume there are 4 to 5 games we have a zero chance of winning.

Overall the interest in the program has probably flat lined but is still way up. vs. the 2006 season. The good news is there is a good base of fans and if Ash can get to 6 or 7 wins this season, I believe interest will skyrocket to the highest is has ever been. If we win 5 games this season it won't put a dent in the fan base but it will probably remain flat.

The board is great, no major conspiracy or butthole moves in the press since Julie and KFlood got the pink slip.

Team was 8-4 in year one of the big ten, people just choose to forget it.

If you looking for "deeper team, player and college football analysis," I would join the Round Table.

If you want to see decreased activity, I'll direct you to some of my favorite Yankee blogs and sites like RLYW.com and Bronx Banter. They are depressing.

And how many of those commits will de-commit? We shall see.

I come here less because some days there are more posts about coconut water, best pizza and SUV recommendations than football info.

Plus almost everything is on Facebook these days

I am sure it will change when the season actually starts

And how many of those commits will de-commit? We shall see.

I have no idea. There may be some. Then again, there might not. -But at least RU currently has a decent number of quality commits. (For example, Scout just updated their recruiting rankings and moved RU up from 30th to 26th.)

Syracuse, on the other hand, well, with the very few verbals obtained by the Orange to date, you'd better hope you have absolutely 0 de-commits, because 3 minus any number doesn't leave much.

No matter what, though, I'll take RU's new staff and its aggressive recruiting approach over the new crew you've got up there in no man's land. ...We'll see which staff eventually comes out on top in the long run, (but I wouldn't hold my breath in that regard if I was you).

The answer to this is easy, and was brought up in another thread: Derleider stopped posting. He was a 100 post per day kind of guy, with every single one being contrarian and thereby sparking further posts.

I'm sick of the OT posts.
that was in jest... i've addressed the fact that we have the Current Event, Politics, Off Topic Banter board with John... he won't change.. personally i'd move everything not football related to their respective boards.. basketball to basketball.. other non football sports to the other sports board.. and ot's to the aforementioned board^
