Why? Because it expends so much energy. Tired legs, alligator arms ( short shots) is all a by product.

UNLESS!…. You have a GO TO GUY, (or 2) who you KNOW can get his anyplace, anytime.

CONCLUSSION: PLAY MORE ZONE! It worked for us when we use it.

NEED MORE OFFENSE FOCUS, hopefully Brandin Knight will spearhead this effort. We ran GOOD STUFF against OSU, not so against SHU

LINE UP SHAKEUP: Now that everyone is back, it’s clear what needs to happen.

START: CLIFF, DRE, CALEB, SIMPSON, PAUL

FIRST OFF FOR SPARK: CAM, MAG, WOLF

Virginia has been a rare exception in previous years with outstanding defense and mediocre offense but still were highly ranked and successful in the NCAA Tournament.

Surprised your solution wasn't start Dean
I’d go with
1. Simpson
2. Jaden Jones
3. Hyatt
4, Reiber
5. Cliff

On Monday we should go after Mbappe. If we really need offense we can convince Connor McDavid to come to RU as he won’t win a cup in Edmonton with those goaltenders.

Ucla plays some of the best defense i have watched all year. They crushed maryland by 27 points and scored in the 80s.

OP is correct that we are a defensive minded team. I like our style because we do it with players we can get. In order to have both, its a higher caliber recruit who can put up the points, but is also willing to buy into playing extremely aggressive defense and rebounding. We dont have the same level players like they have. You have to make concessions. Pikiell knows how to coach and he makes players better.

Where we struggle was exemplified in the Seton Hall game. And maybe also in miami and osu (even though we technically won that game). We have to continue to run our offense and can’t get into a basket by basket game in the last 3-5 minutes. When that happens, we crawl into a shell and theres no dominant offensive player who we can count on to make that huge basket on a consistent basis. Even going back to the loss to Houston in the NCAA game, we lost the same way.

Dont stop the flow of the offense and play scared basketball. Thats what happened last weekend. Seton Hall stayed in the flow, continued their motion and scored the extra basket. We slowed up, paul was stuck at the top of the key and forced to dribble into some tough spots and we turned in over.

There’s nothing wrong with this team. Just play the offense out and find the open man. And then play that aggressive defense. We can win with this model and its why pikiell has been successful. Every so often, we clam up on offense and thats why we have some bad losses.

It’s not my fault the kid is off to a slow start. Tell me you expected this lack of production. No one did, not even coach I’m sure. That said he played good defense and nice blocks.

OP wants to take what Pike has built and go back to the blueprint of the past 20+ years
What the hell are you talking about? I’m saying our aggressive man D effort could be having an effect on offensive production. It shouldn’t these guys are in good condition but it might

I said it was more likely Dean played less than 10 min a game than starting playing 20+
.. meanwhile you were taking a victory lap when Carino said Dean was the starting 4...

It does. It takes a lot out of us short, Medium and long term.

Some on our roster are not in elite conditioning shape.

Carino has the RU basketball knowledge of the average poster on this board. Some good and some bad.
Carino gets to see multiple preseason practices though so he SHOULD have reliable insight before the season starts where fans are just making educated guesses

Or in some cases uneducated guesses 🤣

I guess this thread was started after the SHU game?

Lack of offense wasn’t the issue vs SHU. That’s such an easy cop out claim.

SHU was prepared to come to the RAC and punch us in the face. We were prepared to get punched at home because no one does it and everyone is afraid of the RAC.

Willard is afraid of the RAC.

You know who isn’t? Holloway.
