Deion on NIL... "We won't buy players at Colorado"

He likes money for players from sponsors but he doesn't like "collectives" since they gain too much meddling power

I think there is less to this statement that meets the eye. It remains against the rules for schools to be openly involved in paying players, so all Sanders is saying is "we're going to follow the rules." He's not dismissing the idea of players getting money through NIL so long as that is independent of the athletic department -- the same thing every other school says. There's plenty of NIL money available for Colorado players -- most prominently, Sanders' son.

Players have, of course, been paid in one form or another for a long time.

Sapp has had no association with the game of football since 2012 as an NFL analyst for the NFL Network. He has never coached a down of football. I see nothing in his bio that says he can even coach the game of football. This is a huge gamble and a head scratcher, especially when Sanders needs X's and O's guys. Instead, he's hiring names, for what reason, I seriously have no idea.

I've seen him coaching players and he's good.
As a position coach its not like he has to install a new defensive system
Plus Sapp is a HOF player with a big personality (he still guests on all the big football shows)
Position coaching/drills can be the most boring part of practice and a lively coach can help

I'm sure DL recruits/transfers like him - and he's a Florida guy.
Travis Hunter was a FL guy on the Seminoles and he transferred.
He liked Sanders on/off the field and cant be bought away from Colorado.

If Buffs get 5 or six more aces they will be vastly improved.
Throw out the two blowouts and they were in every game.
Buffs had no real pass rush studs at all but were still 56th overall for sacks.
Sanders approach is to specifically focus on helping the NFL caliber players gain a career.
He's not looking for a lot of collective-spoiled/overpaid, fat-headed 18 yr old kids with entourages.
Sapp loves football/Sanders/Colorado and will roll right into that imo

"Deion Sanders has previously said that when it comes to NIL money to players, Colorado will not be an “ATM” for recruits and players. And he’s since clarified those comments a little bit."

Funny how you knew everything else about him but failed to mention his documented scandalous history. Sapp is hardly a good role model for anyone never mind young males. He admitted to buying sex toys for a female co-worker, soliciting escorts / prostitutes, accused in a domestice violence matter and fired from the NFL network. Rather surprised Colorado would approve such a hire if they did any due diligence or vetting.

Click here for one googled example ... Bad dude

People here do the same thing and advocate for any and all former RU players to be hired on staff regardless of coaching history or interest.

Change the name from Warren Sapp to Brian Leonard and you'll find threads promoting for RB coach even as HC.

I would bet if HC Schiano actually hired Leonard, there would be significant positive response.

He's so good that's he's never held an official coaching position. What, you saw him stop by practice a couple times and think he's good, so good that no one hired him full time for over a decade. Was he too busy with his bankruptcy case?

And there's a reason they don't get hired. Unless you're a Scott Vallone who GA'd, then worked a few years in high school, then onto lower level college, analyst for Rutgers and finally coach. Basically, you put in your dues, not flash your shinny Superbowl ring.

A HUUUUGE chunk of post high-school football players are seedy AF.
A good number are just downright abnormal (especially on defense)
Even SAs have their dirtbags
If you sorted out all the vice players it would be a big hit.

Bart Scott used to say that you just have to tolerate a few "goblins" on a defense in order to be good.
He described going out one night with a teammate to celebrate each having new contract with Ravens.
They went to a strip club, and Scott's associate was putting his lips and face right-up between a strippers cheeks.
Scott was like "Yo man you're never drinking from my water bottle again!"

I played defense in college - dont need a week watching someone to know if he can position coach.
A lot of position coaches are not particularly expert at the spots they coach.
They have a whistle a menu of drills.
When a coach really understands technique it shows.
RU's OL is getting that now.

Greg (played LB) was a GA @ RU in 89 and a GA @ PSU in 90
In 91 he was PSU's DB coach.
Two years of assisting and then he's Penn St DB coach.
We know Greg is a great DB coach but I know that in 1991 he was just getting started and not expert

When a coach knows how to correct and clarify that's very important.
Too many coaches like to show-off by talking fast "Blah-blah-blah-yadda-yadda - you got that?"
Then players nod "Yes" when they dont mean it - the good coaches know to follow-up over and over as a routine.

Every NFL team has guys on it that make someone like L. Taylor look like a pussy. And you figure it out pretty quickly. And there are more than a couple handful's of players that make Aaron Hernandez look like an angel. You don't even leave the lockerroom standing next to those guys.

They’ve lost at least 3 verbals within the last 2 weeks.

Antwan says Colorado is still his #1.
He was going to commit for 2024 class but is going back with his original 2025 class.
Antwan is a "'visit hustler" who has taken 20 visits to 10 AAA teams.
Four and five star recruits get paid 3-5k per visit.

Prime says he's only recruiting 5-7 kids and will rely on transfers
He's not aiming to boss rank recruiting class
He's not going to chase kids down and doesn't like players still taking visits after committing

"“What I wish the NCAA would do, if you're committed somewhere, you can't go on any other visits. If you're committed, that means you're committed. “You can't go on no other visits. Why would you be committed but you're still letting kids go on other visits?"

You should consider reaching out to Coach Prime and see if he is looking for a full time PR guy.

I understand what you're saying regarding coaching experience but as a role model for young men do you really want to compare Warren Sapp to Brian Leonard?

Ha ha.. all the money is for Deion and sons. He doesn't want anyone getting in on his game.

He wants players to have sponsor money and doesn't like collectives.
Lots of issues with collectives people dont see yet.
You have kids being steered to wrong teams for $ and hoody friends trying to act as Don King Agents.
Collectives can really undercut a coach.

Deion "believes that what is currently happening with collectives is bad for players and schools.

“These kids have agents, man. Not only agents, they’ve got their homies who’s representing them, who’s just trying to use them and playing them. They don’t go to the school that they should go to. They don’t even ask questions about the defense or the offense or the scheme or the personnel or how are you going to use me,” Sanders said. “If [getting paid is] your prerogative, your first thing, I don’t want you. I want you to chase the NFL bag. That’s what’s going to sustain you.”

Finally, Sanders said he wants players to get paid what they are worth based on how they perform in college, while also being set up to have success in the NFL."

Guy was a football player. .
Ever heard of Lawrence Taylor ??

wonder how long it will be before college players never have to leave college... after all.. firing them for aging out.. not very PC, is it?

Besides.. the NFL has been chasing college games off the networks for awhile... Thursday games and now Friday games? That was a college thing. Think it is time for college football to start playing on Sundays... see how the NFL likes it. Maybe we can get a deal so they will stick to Sunday and Monday.

Sponsors can do the same thing.. like Nike pushing players to Nike schools.. etc.
He is happy to talk this crap as long as his sons have deals with Google and such. If his kids were the ones getting collectives, somehow he would be ok with it.
Anyone that doesn’t understand this guy is about he and his, is an idiot.

Guess Deion was right. His son Shilo has declared bankruptcy. Sounds like a nice young man.
