DeShawn Freeman - Emerging Team Leader

Great news to see DeShawn stepping up and being a leader which this team sorely needs. Coach wants the RU fans to be proud of the program and seeing players taking on leadership roles is so important. I can't wait to witness each step in building this program knowing we will have ups and downs but we are definitely moving in the right direction. Good to hear the strides that we have made on conditioning and the basics of defending and rebounding.

I think he will average more than 12, especially in nonconference

I still remember the Corey Sanders quote last year about Freeman, " Get him the ball in his sweet spot and he will finish every time".

Pikiell also praised him as the best rebounder who will start.

I'm excited for this team. I feel like this coach is going to get the most out of these players and the RAC will become a feared arena again. Defense and rebounding win games. And we need to hit the free throws. Shooting is something that everyone can do and the high percentage shots are typically created off of great defense. I think a few teams are going to get an unexpected shock when they play us.

Hats off to Deshawn for working hard.

What a champ. Another kid from our team who has battled against the odds.

Awesome stuff. FREE the man.

I really liked what I saw from Freeman last year, and I believe he is primed for a breakout year. I love the lunch-pail attitude. I was at the St. Johns game last year, and he was scoring at will with his low post moves when he was getting the ball.

I have said this all along this guy is so much better than people think. I watched a bunch of his JUCO games when we were recruiting him and his ability around the rim both offensively and defensively jumped out to me. He was boxing out guys taller than him en route to 20 pts 15 rebound games.

Bottom line Rivals rated him a four star for a reason. And now Pikiell is getting that four star talent to come out.

Seems that he was already this type of player last year, mostly pre-B1G schedule if I recall correctly, until he got hurt. It'll be interesting to see how his game translates in B1G games. He seems like a good player.
