Despite Score, Progress is Evident

Worse than the Terry Shea era..At least then RU had an NFL QB, McMahon...Remember how long it took Schiano to get it going in the right direction? And remember how the level of completion then was substantially lower..hard to have any optimism...

At this point no better than a Flood team. Could we get better over time under Ash? Maybe. But with seniors all over both lines, massive blowouts are unacceptable. 669 yards in offense?? Those are numbers I'd expect from a Rossi defense.

You can't expect to get anything positive when their guys are pushing us around like a bunch of rag dolls. Let's hope that next year our team improves by subtraction.

Believe it or not, the first quarter was the best quarter I ever recall Rutgers having against tOSU in some time. They were physical and competitive with tOSU. However, as Matt Millen stated , we don't have a quarterback. And that is a huge problem. Laviano shouldn't play another down. He can't move at all and nearly every throw is off his back foot, thereby affecting his accuracy. And without an offense , the defense will eventually wear down as it did today. Lack of depth is another problem. It didn't help that when Greg Jones went down a true freshman replaced him and OSU went right after him. Would have been nice if Najee Clayton was still around.

When the offense can't move the ball which gave OSU good field position, what do you expect? The defense was on the field all game!
Until we get our offense going, it will be a long season!

Flood's teams were more competitive against OSU. So far, the offense hasn,'t scored and the defense hasn't forced a punt. And worst of all Ash = Flood on the QB.

To be fair Floods teams never faced a Buckeye team as talented as this years team is.

Oden doesn't impress me. He played QB in HS right. Should have some feel for the game. Other schools have started frosh with better results. Try Gio.

I agree. Having watched some of the earlier games this season, plus our game, IMO this is the most talented OSU team in at least a few years. Depth and talent everywhere.

If I'm Meyer, I'd be loosing sleep worrying over somehow screwing up and not giving this talented team every opportunity to with a NC this season. First world problem, but it's all relative.

My point was if OSU scored 45 vs Oklahoma why are people surprised they moved at will versus RU?

Some of you are just plain dumb, it is sad. If you graduated from Rutgers you must have been some weed smoking liberal arts majors that are now flipping burgers at McDonalds.

Under Flood when facing OSU we had Gary Turnova and Leonte Caroo. We currently don't have talent at QB or WR even closely reaching that level. Under Flood each season the talent level has been steadily declining. That's what Ash inherited. It's going to take him a couple years of recruiting to right the ship since we have a depth chart full of MAC and dII players.

Anyone with a normally functioning brain would be able to see that our talent is worse than the Flood years BUT our FB fundamentals are actually much better.

This staff with 2012 talent would easily win 9-10 games in the big ten. It will take Ash 4-5 years to stockpile depth with such talent. The coaching is there. The key is patience with the accumulation of talent.

I mostly agree with the spirit of your post. Flood cost us in recruiting, among other things.

However, our fan-base needs to adjust it's thinking for the Big Ten. With the Big Ten imposed OOC rules that mandate a halt to scheduling FCS opponents and require us to schedule at least one power non-conference opponent, winning 9-10 games will never be easily accomplished. It might be doable, but it will take a lot of hard work, a lot of depth at all positions, and a lot of luck.

Nothing easy about it.

I don't know which team you are watching but Rutgers tackling this year is just as bad as it's been for the past 3 years. Cioffi twice literally flopped on the ground in front of the ball carrier without even touching him. Not just him but most of the defense doesn't tackle well. So many times I've seen them have a play sewn up in the backfield and somehow the guy gets away and gains 7 yards.

I disagree and don't know what team you're watching. While tackling hasn't been perfect (and never is for any team), and while Cioffi has had a few nasty misses, overall we are tackling considerably better than last year. You must forget just how bad we tackled last year. It wasn't a missed tackle here and there. It was continuous.

And Northwestern scored 38 on Iowa. On the road. The point?

Can we ban anyone using the transitive property, directly or indirectly, ever? Please?

Our offense is putrid because we have no qb. That's why we aren't scoring on anyone. I don't think the poster was inferring the offense is doing well.

The defense is looking clearly improved, notwithstanding what OSU did. OSU does it to upper echelon teams too.

That was the point.
