Dinardo said RU only brought 70 players on trip

I take it they decided that if a player isn't game-ready, then they're better off using a game weekend to workout. Perhaps it's tied to budget efficiency, too. Or just a motivational tool.

If he was ready to play it wouldn't be an issue.

70 equates to 3 deep at every position and 4 kickers. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

Right, but some positions you are gonna take more than 3 deep. QB and RBs you are probably gonna take 4 or 5. OL, probably not 15 total, maybe your 2 deep, and your top freshman you are getting ready to travel.

Curious what the Game Day protocol is for the 15 or so player who are not on the trip -
Certainly there are a few staff members who do not travel - so.. would they structure things in a 'team activity' way - gather together in one of the meeting / presentation rooms & watch a live feed of the game? - watch - not like spectators - but like true students of the game - with staff identifying & expanding upon the 'teachable moments'.
That, coupled with structured rehab / supplemental workouts would seem a superior use of time & resources than having 15 guys who were definitely not going to be playing, tag along & get stale on a long coast-to-coast trip.

"Many Conferences such as the Big 10, ACC and others have set conference travel limits to 72 players While the WAC limits its travel squads to 64. The NCAA Football Playing Rules do not address this issue as it is an NCAA administrative regulation not a playing rule. The NCAA By-laws have changed over the years. At one time it was 48 squad members as the limit for the traveling team. Iit has changed over the years from unlimited to 100 to 80 and down to 60. I did not find the limit in the 2011 by-laws. I suspect the travel limit is 60 players with up to 72 to a conference chanpionship. The Conferences each have their own rules for travel limits. The NCAA Post Season Handbook limits the official traveling party at each level and this will include players. With that said I am not certain of the NCAA travel restrictions as I was not able to find them in the By-laws for Div. 1 FBS. Below is a list of travel squad restrictions and limits for other divisions and sports. This is slightly outside my area of expertise."

Big difference between the level of ability with the pros and colleges, especially us as we are really rebuilding.

70 is still 24 more. That's an add'l player at every position.

Under normal circumstances would you expect more than 55-60 to play any meaningful snaps? Probably not so what's the issue? None imo.

There has always been a limit on traveling players eligible to dress for an away game...it would make no sense to bring 85 players who can't play on
game day... when we play at home count how many actually dress from the visiting team...they sometimes bring injured players who are in civilian clothes...
this is not an issue...65 is normal.

No big deal. If anything it might get a few guys to work harder to make the next road game trip.

It's even less than that. Look at game box scores from previous seasons on Scarletknights.com . We used 46 players against Michigan State last year according to the participation report. Used 52 against Maryland.

We are well known for looking as deep as humanly possible to find an issue where one doesn't exist.

There are issues up the wazzou (pun intended) heading into this year. Bringing 70 players out west isn't one of them.
