Inspired by the discussion in this thread: https://rutgers.forums.rivals.com/threads/ot-mag.289563/

I looked at players who have played at Rutgers under Pike and also for other schools. In the beginning there were a couple players who played a year under Eddie Jordan, then under Pike, and then elsewhere. For these players I did not count their Eddie Jordan numbers.

-----
TLDR:
Weighted Averages
3p% under Pike: 32.45%
3p% elsewhere: 32.61%
Conclusion: No significant difference

FT% under Pike: 67.59%
FT% elsewhere: 70.76%
Conclusion: Worse under Pike

I am not 100% certain how to weight it for comparison purposes, but I think assigning each player a weight of MIN(Rutgers attempts, other attempts) is reasonable.

Using that, here is 3-point comparison:

I am not 100% certain how to weight it for comparison purposes, but I think assigning each player a weight of MIN(Rutgers attempts, other attempts) is reasonable.

Using that, here is 3-point comparison:

Here I get a weighted 67.59% at Rutgers and 70.76% elsewhere. This actually looks significant.
Don't have time to look at it, but curious the FT performance for guys who transferred in vs guys who transferred out .. that is, do players just improve at the line over their careers, agnostic of environment.

Looks to me like a few high volume guys maybe skewed the numbers. Not sure how fluox accounted for that.

I'm not sure how to account for it or if it should be accounted for, though even if you remove, say, Eugene Omoruyi and Montez Mathis (the two highest weight guys who were better after transferring) you still get 68.84% Rut, 70.77% other.

If I take a simple average of the percentages with no weighting you get Rutgers 66.2% and Other 70.1%

If you just take the total FT% without adjusting for a different mix of attempts you get Rutgers 65.2%, Other 72.9%.

Would be interesting to see each players change in 3PA per 100 and 3PA rate.

Is it virtually the same percentage on virtually the same 3PA per 100 or 3PA rate, or are guys shooting more 3s at RU or elsewhere.

Just fix it so it looks better. That’s all I’m looking for lol.

I’ll see if I can do this too.

With Eugene his FT shooting was improving during his time at RU.
Y1 63%
Y2 54%
Y3 71%

Then he sat out a year and then shot 77% his one year at Oregon.

Davis seems to have improved quite a bit as a shooter under this coaching staff.

I would suggest you could insert "player" for "shooter"

I truly hope that JMike stays for his Jr and Sr years, many of us will be very happy he did
