So in essense Elmer burnt his redshirt unnecessarily vs. Michigan. Doubt that we really need him vs. Army or MD, with Carroo back he probably won't see the field on offense. Way to go Elmer!!!

Does it really matter.....The WR position will have many new faces over the course of his collegiate 4 yrs.

Another great move by coach. Can't imagine why guys transfer out after their freshman season here

Shhh... I'm not a Rutgers Coach. I'm go'in incognito!

You guys are so sad it's comical. Are you really worried that Owens won't be available in 2019????? Come on, tell the truth and explain what the problem is. Just why does this matter? Oh yeah, it's Flood. I guess you forgot it was pretty common under Saint Greg.

What you could question is why there's a need but then you'd have to explain why it's done at other schools by other coaches.

I think the same thing happened with Clayton....just used on special teams....redshirt burned.

You don't get it. It's unfair to the player that 1 out of his four years of eligibility gets burned because of two or three plays. No one's worried about our 2019 depth chart. It's just stupid and unfair to burn a players red shirt for two plays. Then again, if Flood built some depth in the program we would not have this problem

It's more likely the two are playing for the same reason....injuries.

Carroo was out with it unsure when he'd return. The other WR's are not getting the job done so he tried someone else despite Flood being too "stubborn" to make changes. Yesterday Carroo was back so Owens went to specials.

With all the dismissals and nagging injuries to Hester and Jacobs it was likely Clayton would be needed. He's been used on Specials so he has some experience under game conditions. Also, he's a real hitter out there and may just be more worthy of time than other reserves.

As I sais the question isn't that they're out there, it's why there aren't upperclassmen out there instead. See: Recruiting.

Yeah. It's that everyone is sorry for Owens. I believe that.

BTW, exactly how much do you want for that bridge you're selling. I'm really interested.

One of the things programs without 4 and 5 star talent can do is load up for 4th and 5th year laden teams down the road. Think Gonzaga in basketball and Boisie State in football. As they made a name they were playing a lot of upperclaßmen and 5th year guys. BYU does the same with 6th year guys due to the 2 years they get for Mormon missions.

That is what is being "burnt" here... The opportunity down the road to field a team laden with 5th year seniors. A deep team that has 5th year guys backing up 5th year guys. That is one way we might beat a team with 4 and 5 star underclassmen.

Carroo redshirt was burned just playing special teams freshman year as well. It happens.

I would venture to say most schools reward upper classmen who've been loyal and put their time in by allowing them to play special teams.
True frosh shouldn't play unless they're on the two deep...IMO

And almost left after his junior year for the NFL draft. So, redshirting him would have been meaningless. Not like he would have returned in 2016 if he had the option, especially after what he has been thru this year.

This Board has always way overplayed the whole redshirting subject. Yes, OL and raw players need time to develop. You don't run them out there before they can contribute. WRs and RBs can come in and contribute as true freshman. Happens everywhere. Maybe only on specials, but if they are the best available, you don't keep them on the sidelines. And if you ask the player, he wants on the field as soon as possible.

I ready to move on from the current regime as soon as this season ends, but his redshirting policy is the last reason to do so.

If I was a true freshman that did not see the field at all for the first eight games, then was inserted for a handful of plays in games 9 and 10, I would be a little irritated that I lost a year of eligibility with little opportunity to really contribute.

Anyone that can still redshirt this season better not see time vs Army or Maryland at this point.

Yes, we did have a chance at 6-6 previously. Now that we won't be going bowling there's no point.

It's just an in general roster mgmt issue. Would a player help more a couple games as a 18 year old or a full season as a 21 year old?

And OK are hands were tied we needed him vs Michigan(seems crazy to me that a team that left Agudosi on the bench for multiple games is now forced to play Owens). But then why is an injured Carroo out there late in blowout while Owens watches from the sidelines?

It doesn't take a Flood critic to see this as poor personnel mgmt.

The days of anyone defending Flood in the grand scheme are long gone so that's not the issue.

For the sake of this discussion also take Laviano out of the equation.

It's been said by at least one outside observer who's broadcasted 2 games that the WR's are not getting the job done without Carroo. If you have a kid who may be able to add a spark, why not? I believe you try your hardest every game, not worry about 4 years from now.

All I keep hearing is recruiting sucks especially at WR. Now I'm supposed to believe some of the same people are worried about this 1 kid in 2019? It's the dishonesty that bothers me as much as anything.

This is a really silly thread. Lots of things to dislike right now, but this is not something to be concerned about.

Playing true freshmen that potentially have NFL measurables or even the potential to be major contributors on special teams, doing anything other than returning punts or kicks is dumb.
I don't care who did it or does it.

If the kid can possibly add a spark then why did he not play on the offensive side vs Nebraska? It's one thing to burn the redshirt. It's another to burn that redshirt and then stop giving him oppurtunities.

As far as WR's and their contributions, from what I've seen that lack of contribution is a QB issue, or maybe an O-line issue, or perhaps even a play calling issue, more then it is a WR issue.
