Donyell Marshall NOT hired as an assistant

I guess this qualifies as a "sexy" hire. I think it shows that coach P has a plan.

Donyell's son Donyell played in same Cleveland H.S. area conference as formerly committed
Maishe Dailey.....FWIW?????

Please recruit a player bigger than 6'7" that can score and I will be very happy. The hiring of Marshall is a perception winner because it says the new head coach understands a winning culture must be fostered at Rutgers .

I actually believe the lack of 6'7 players is a big problem with roster.

Sounds like a kid that could really benefit from Marshall's coaching would be Issa Thiam.

Good hire. Hopefully he can have an immediate impact on the play of our bigs.

Great, great hire, great first step. I remember Donny Marshall from the beginning as a collegiate player and have followed his pro plaing and college and coaching career ever since. As for the Sanders-Vetrone matter: I disagree with Sir Scarlet and fully agree with Block R; this program is already a train wreck, but absent Corey Sanders, maybe Laurent, too, we potentially could end up with so many rookies and newcomers that a season could ensue that would make this one look good by comparison. That is absolutely not an exaggeration. So for the pragmatic reason of key player retention, if that's what it takes, keep Shoes on for a few more seasons, all things being equal. A horrendous initial year could set the Steve Pikiell and the RU MBB program back disastrously; we have to show at least a modest improvement (and that's not saying much by RU MBB standards), or things are going to get uglier faster. As for those who are simply ready to dismiss Sanders or others and say, "hey, the kid doesn't want to play here or has conditions attached to his staying, the hell with him...." The fact is, we need these kids to stay here. Anyone who takes that cavalier attitude is in for a rude jolt next season.

Just an FYI, Donny and Donyell Marshall were 2 different players at UConn

Seriously a big miss when you had Dalip Bhatia already in the fold. I guess we'll see if this is a good move or not!

Just Kidding.......

Apparently you did follow as closely as you thought!

Correct. Donny Marshall is now an in-studio analyst for BTN.

This was a smart and excellent hire on so many levels. Recruiting? CHECK. NBA player with a pedigree? CHECK. Has coaching experience at the collegiate level? CHECK (Rider and Buffalo).

Marshall's great uncle is the great Lenny Moore. Now there was a football player!

This will be a total embarrassment if the media announcements regarding Marshall turn out to be false.

Embarrassment for the media ? Can't see how this is an embarrassment for Rutgers....they did not leak any news.

Marshall:

- Blue Chip HS Recruit
- Big East POTY
- CONSENSUS 1st Team All-American
- 15+ year in the NBA
- Collegiate Coaching Experience

..easy answer IF you HAD to make a choice and especially if you're a "big man" IMHO.

All that is nice, but the main worry should be how that relates to what does he bring to the table as a Rutgers assistant .
His college coaching experience looks like he does bring something to the table and I like to think he was a big reason Buffalo made it to the Dance even with Bobby Hurley poaching a player or two when he left for the ASU job.
This to me is a good hire and because of what I think about his college coaching career more than his NBA experience. Though he does seem to be able to use what he learned as a player on both levels and use it to advise the players on the teams he was an assistant at.
He seemed to help Rider and Buffalo make the post season and starting out at a school like George Washington under Lonergan is a plus.

Hopefully everything Nuts stated about Donyell will be used to bring in the type of talent RU MBB needs to get on the right track and become a winning program.

He will bring LeBron to some games

No one said it's not going to happen.....maybe it's just not ready to be announced officially.

Most of the time when you hear a hiring leak, it happens.

Ron Rothstein, from CBS also announced it.
