I actually would prefer him to stay and develop, as we NEED a young big man to stay in the program. Right now, we only have Myles Johnson after next year. As much as our frontcourt depth has helped us this year, it could be a MAJOR problem next year with both Doorson an Doucoure gone.

Thoughts?

Doucoure is a Big Body but I think his talent is limited and he's not going to contribute much. Last year he was foul prone and seemed overmatched. The hope we could use this scholarship to upgrade the talent level needed to compete against the big men in our coference.

Gotta have that fourth guy next year, it’s great for the rotation.

Luke Nathan?
I'm wondering if could contribute at all. Not on a regular basis but if we get hit with the injury bug next year and have games with foul trouble he might need to depending on how the roster shakes out

It appears the Pike is red shirting Nathan for next year. Doucore can be effective rebounding and defensively.

What about Shaq Carter - done after this year?

He's got one more year. Without Doucore though, we are down a man in a four man big rotation.

I think the roster is clearly being constructed to not need four big men. I think we see lineups next year where Omoruyi is the biggest guy on the floor and Carter/Johnson split whatever minutes are there for bigger guys.

I think its possible he leaves. Assume he qualifies for a RS year if he plays no more going forward? Not sure if it would be a medical RS and therefore meaning he is not continuing to develop his game in practice. A RS year is likely in his and RU's best interest regardless.

Luke Nathan?
Don't know that much about him from HS, but can't believe he wouldn't be able to contribute what our bigs do now. We need someone who can score maybe 6-10 points around the basket by shooting. None of the rotation indicates they have that ability from what I've seen. Can't even make a contested layup or draw the foul.
Right now all our centers play the same type game.

I think our bigs are better than your description and tough.
Is Luke physical enough?

I watched Doucoure from our seats in 115 last night. He was involved with the team, engaged in the huddles and rooting hard (along with Young). They also had him hold the sword when the team stood for the alma matter.

I have no inside info, but he's eligible for a medical redshirt, and it seems pretty clear that Pike told him to sit for the year, develop his game and he'd be back in the rotation next year when Shaq D graduated and there is less of a big man logjam for minutes. He can be really good, and he was partially forced to play (and start!) last year due to Shaq's injuries. Then you bring in Carter...

If he was going to transfer, it would make no sense for him to wait out this year. He could have done it for 2nd semester so he could sit less. As such, I think there is a lot of evidence that his 'back problems' and the redshirt are a development plan understood by all involved.

Johnson has a tough game against Indiana but I have seen enough to believe he can be a really good center for us. Watch the last five minutes of the Nebraska Game as an example

Hope he stays and develops. The tools are there (size, agility, strength, shooting ability), and we need bigs. What you see in a 6-9 big man's freshman year is NOT what you will see in his third, fourth or fifth years. Patience is always a virtue, but moreso with PF/C guys in college basketball.

Just imagine where we would be this year without Doorson, who is providing leadership, rebounding, and good defense.

Next year it will be onamuyi at the four and Harper getting the residual minutes at the four and the two headed center of Johnson and carter

Doucoure needs to become a center. He isn’t going to make it at the high post four spot ...

He wasn't ready to play last year and he struggled mightily. Imagine what he will be by his last 2 season. No reason to give up on him

It shouldn't matter if is a medical redshirt or not as far as not losing a year of eligibility. He would still have to sit out and lose a year if he transfered. The only advantage to a medical redshirt over a red shirt year is if he gets injured in any of the remaining years he may be granted an extra year of eligibility if he has not already played too many games to qualify for a redshirt

Myles had trouble defending without fouling last night - 12 min, 4 fouls.
He got himself out of position several times where he allowed himself to be walled off from someone droving to the hoop. That doesn't happen to Doorson. Our intirior D noticably lags when he sits.

I think he stays. I’ve heard from few people that they saw him look active in the huddle against PSU. Medical redshirt would make sense.

I’d have to look at the 4 fouls. Pretty sure foul #3 was not a foul. I know Pikiell told him not to worry about it and made a face at the foul.

I hate when people say bigs are useful because they can give 5 fouls. I’d really like to see the 3 other fouls before I make a determination he couldn’t defend without fouling.

I believe it was a Langford drive where he got screened. Need to look at that on to see if it was a mistake or bad luck.

Still, for him being "fine" last night, he only saw the floor for 12 minutes.

Just took a look at the fouls on the DVR:
1st (15:19 1st) - Pushed Morgan out of the lane on defense, with an arm bar in his back and his arm over the top of Morgan's shoulder
2nd (13:04 1st) - Hit shooter's hand attempting to block a layup after a turnover
3rd (15:18 2nd) - With Morgan backing him down, reached around Morgan's back to hold him.
4th (2:34 2nd) - Shot block attempt that looked like he missed the shooter, but may have got him a bit on the head (hair?) with his arm

so 2 were his man and 2 were help....still your thesis might be right.

Pike trusted Doorson more than Carter and Johnson down the stretch I believe. I'm guessing D kept Carter from playing more minutes

....

I was going to post this...then I saw this.

He is very engaged for someone who may be moving on. Not saying it can't happen, but I would be very surprised.

My thoughts exactly. He'll be getting the redshirt year he should have gotten when he first got here, but he was needed for immediate depth.

With 3 years left, he has potential to be a serviceable rotation big man in the future. I doubt seriously that he lives up to his 4 star billing, however. It's fine if he stays and it's fine if he goes.

Maybe I'm naive, but how can he get a medical redshirt if he isn't hurt? Doesn't the school have to produce evidence of the injury?
