Doucoure

Perhaps doucoure redshirts
I’d be all for it, esp. if the idea, through practice, is to turn him into a 12-15minute guy who can face up, rebound, score a few put backs and )as we know he’s good at) pick up a few fouls.

I think this situation was mishandled. Now, what role does Docoure have that the team desperately needs going forward? I think he’d be better at a different school.

No playing time yesterday. The guy went from starting most of the games last season..basically because there was no one else to being a total non factor this year. I suppose there is time for him to develop into a contributor but for his hype that he came can we now ask was he a recruiting miss for Pikiell? I am not looking to start a bash thread but some discussion of the situation. Obviously when you have players who are not contributing that were expected to be part of the build its a concern. No one can spin or downplay it. Add in that Issa has gone AWOL in our offense...add in that Doorson and Johnson cannot be counted on for offense and Carter is being brought along slowly, it magnfies the issues we have on offense right now and how limited our scoring options are. Doucoure showed signs that he could get perhaps be able to contribute in the paint offensively but seemingly that idea has disappeared. It would seem defensively he is a liability but I would hope on such a challenged team that Pikiell and staff can find a role for him to play on this team. We have a lot of bigs..they rebound well but they contributed very very little on the offensive end.
Redshirting

I don't call any recruiting whiffs a swing and a miss. We are a program that has smelled like the Edgeboro landfill for 3 decades now. We are lucky we can get anybody at all to come here. We are all so hungry for success we overreact to every small ray of sunshine.. And when those inevitable clouds of defeat return we turn on whomever has taken the godforesaken head job at the RAC.

You are making this job seem like a death march. It is a great job to be a coach and they get paid millions a year.

Kid came in early, so I think he needs more time to develop. I suspect if Shaq D wasn’t healthy again this year, we would have seen more of Duke, but Shaq is finally healthy and moving well - and contributing, IMO. So Duke redshirts, gets the year to learn and is worked in next year. Shaq D will be gone, leaving us with only 2 true scholarship big men. At this point, we don’t have another big man coming next year. Maybe Pearson but he doesn’t fit the same mold. Duke may transfer but a redshirt makes as much sense.

Duke needs to redshirt. Hopefully he improves from it.

Doucoure redshirting matters is he dedicated himself to being a five and not a four

Eugene and Ron are ahead of him already and we still after Pearson and hopefully Massoud at the four

...and we need another center

I would like Duke to stay and redshirt. Let him work himself into the rotation next year.

I can’t see Duke as a five in The B1G—not big enough, long enough, explosive enough.

And there are zero expectations here. You can be a collosal failure like Jordan was and still get tons of money.
That summarizes every big man we have. Should they all transfer?

I think Johnson will be a very good player here.

Why is Carter being brought along slowly? He has scored, rebounded and added a few blocks (I think).

Johnson has played well rebounding and blocking shots and I believe we've only scratched the surface with this kid.

Does Doucoure have a shot from 10-15 feet? If fact does anybody?

Agree completely. Johnson and Carter should be getting the vast majority of the minutes.

Doucoure used to have a 10-15 footer but looks like he has zero confidence right now. Unfortunately, when your PT is limited (as his should be) and your first few shoots don’t go in, it can mess with your head big time and you do t have the opportunity to correct it. Those players need to earn PT through other means that are more controllable (hustle, rebounding, defense), until the shots start to fall again.

For sure. That is also part of the problem, and why Rutgers is where it is. Ash for example in Football.

Johnson showed A LOT against Fernando. A lot of us are with you there.

He will be recruited over

I'd hope the goal is to recruit over every player on the roster, to be honest.

I think he already has been.

He really hasn't been. Next year in the frontcourt we have Omoruyi (Sr, 6-7), Carter (Sr, 6-9), Johnson (RS So, 6-10), Doucoure (RS So?, 6-9).... which leaves us in 2020-21 with just Johnson (RS Jr), Doucoure (RS Jr), and players that have not yet committed to RU.

We really need a top flight big (or two) in either the 2019 or 2020 class.

This is why we need 2020 PF/C Cliff Omoruyi.
