Do not think he had a job last year but the Charlotte Observer is reporting today that he is about to be named an assistant coach of the Hornets.
Great for him, he will be collecting 2 salaries...Good for Eddie
I think Pike worked more in his first month than Eddie worked in his entire tenure.I wonder how many more hours Pikiell worked than Jordan in their first years
You can say Freddie and throw in Littlepage as well did the same, but taxpayer money: you sound like the star ledger saying that.He stole the taxpayers' money and our time and donations. $$$$
If true...congrats to EJ.
Despite the relative failure of his tenure as head coach...he is still a loyal son and provided a ton of great history here for a lot of RU faithful, and the program.
That will always earn my respect!
There wasn't an athletic director at the time!He was not ready to run a D-I program in a high major conference. He simply was not ready but he returned to his alma mater when they needed someone to take the job.
I blame whoever the athletic director was at the time for making a bad hire. He was not ready and it did not work out.

You are spot on Russ. It was a bad AD decision (or was it Barchi?) whose main focus was to deliver healing after the Rice mess and bring integrity back to RU. Problem was Eddie was not prepared for D1 basketball and overall effort required for successful recruiting. Eddie is a great guy and a BB legend at RU but not what we needed. Fortunately, we found the right AD who did his homework and found the right coach who assembled the right staff. The best feeling is we have a coach and staff who understand how to build a program. The future is bright!!He was not ready to run a D-I program in a high major conference. He simply was not ready but he returned to his alma mater when they needed someone to take the job.

Mixed feelings. I know he's a nice guy, but did he not realize what was expected of the job? Or was he just lazy and sent it in? If it's the latter I'd have some hard feelings regardless of his history here. And Mike O'Koren wasn't any better. Compare what he did to our current assistants.
This was important. Worked out in the long run since we now have Coach P. Wish Eddie well.I'm not for making Eddie a martyr because he stepped in at a hard time - he was a complete failure as a coach and accomplished nothing other than giving us some distance after the Rice fiasco
Yes, Carl Kirschner, former Dean of Rutgers College, was the interim AD.Wasn't there an interim AD Whose first name was Karl filling in for a second time? Also while the timing and environment was not great, not buying we could get anyone else to take the job especially given what we paid him. He was viewed as the right guy at the right time but it became obvious early that he was miscast despite being a loyal son.
Hopefully we are now good to go!

It won't matter to recruits that someone who played for Rutgers in the seventies and had a horrible record coaching Rutgers for three seasons as an assistant coach in the NBA.I met Eddie in 2015. Nice man. Also met Carlin ...very gracious.
I hope Eddie lands on his feet...and is successful- both for his benefit as well as putting
the Rutgers brand back out there again in the NBA.
IMO it can only HELP recruiting for Pike.

Numerous fans who post here have. And, yes this was a business transaction and a bad one. He bleeds scarlet red but took the money nonetheless. $$$$Did EJ donate at least $100k of his salary to RU during his tenure? People seemed to forget that EJ does bleed scarlet red. When he was hired to coach at RU, it was a business transaction like any other coaches.
Anyone else on this donated $100k to RU?
Guy was bad no doubt. But remember no one reputable guy wanted the job, and I don't even think Eddie wanted it despite being paid well. There were doubts we would have enough scholarship players to field a team that season. Yes, he did a terrible job. But no scandals and left a couple nice pieces for the next coach.
She said she never went to her coaches wedding that she fired, but pictures show she was the matron of honor. Was the name of the non existent AD...Julie?

It's a new era for RU Athletics and seems like even when things are looking up the dislike for past ADs keep on appearing. She said she never went to her coaches wedding that she fired, but pictures show she was the matron of honor.
Now we should find pictures of her as the AD to prove she was there. This is what happens when
you hire for political reasons.
Eddie was hired before she was. She had nothing to do with it.She said she never went to her coaches wedding that she fired, but pictures show she was the matron of honor.

Tons of reputable would have taken the job.

Tons? seemed like Rutgers search services was having difficulty finding tons of them ...well they found one .... a popular possibility in Hurley .. and in a short period invested a lot of high profile time & energy in 'discussions' only to have it turn to dust & (correct or not) leave the appearance that seemed to reinforce the idea that the position was not desirable - not enough resources where going to be instantly available and a potential career risk
- what happened / did not happen with Howland is not really known - potentially there was a cursory judgment that he had 'baggage' - potentially preconceived notions took him out of consideration.
Everybody wanted to be over as fast, fast, fast as possible - and in a way that would be 'soothing' .. and no apparent 'baggage' - Jordan seemed like an acceptable /safe choice - seemed...
