Anything we do is a gamble. You're apparently the kind of gambler who plays emotionally and when he has a really bad hand, tries to bluff and hope for good luck even though the odds are against you. That is just ridiculous. First of all, define "proven". Florida hired the Colorado State coach, and they are ranked now. Utah originally hired Meyer from Bowling Green. There are only two coaches who were really proven in the B1G before they got their jobs, Harbaugh and Meyer. Maybe Franklin and Riley to a much lower degree. No one is asking for that, and to say that should be the bar when Florida and Auburn are hiring midmajor coaches is absurd.
You claim Flood has "proven" he can get 8 wins....so then why didn't we have 11 wins under Schiano every year? It was one time in a weak year for the conference- we beat 2 winning teams by the skin of our teeth and one was OOC...and yet, Flood has also proven he can go 6-7 in a midmajor league and get blown out by a 3 win team...
You cannot just pick and choose here...and we are looking at another 3 win season. If he produces two atrocious seasons and beat 4 winning teams in 4 years, what is so "proven" besides bad news before we even get to the off the field antics...
I don't gamble, but if I did, I'd do so unemotionally and would fold my crappy hand (for now, by keeping Flood for another year or two) and wait to play a better hand w/better odds of success (when the B1G money starts to really roll in).
